Keep it up. We need more independent journalists involved in their communities & larger political arenas. The mainstream media can only report the version of events their sponsors will pay for. Too often that means the 11 o’clock news is little more than a Chevy commercial interspersed with political soundbites. Aside from blogs like yours, the only place to get honest accounts of current events is from the Comedy Network (and of course, a certain ex-vj on CBC). Good to hear you’re still free to “fight the good fight” for public awareness.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9571186.post-87584182747569441482007-02-26T07:27:00.000-04:002007-02-26T07:27:00.000-04:00Charles you did nothing wrong! I ...Hey Charles

This is a fellow talk of the towner. I saw your arrest on the news and I must say it was pathetic to say the least. The judge referred to the three police as Siant Johns finest. Talk about an overstatment. I think three of Saint John finest Losers would be more suited. Yo were doing nothing wrong and they tried to show their might. And the real pathetic part was you wer not even resisiting arrest in any way and it still took three of them to arrest you .And that chick with teh baton what a joke. Kind of like their o called ETF in the north end standoff while they were there in their black clad combats looking all tuff the suspect jumped out a window and came up behind them to surrender and the pathetic parts was they had no idea he was there. I can't wait to see the day when someone who is trained and very tough starts to risist arrest. what will they do then call in the special forces JTF. Siant john cops atre nothing but a bunch of correupt thugs who think they are tough and think they are above and beyond the law. and i think you should sue teh force for ploice brutality and excessive force. and as far as that fem,ale cop with her baton what an idiot .

Best regards
JoeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9571186.post-1165537881668851492006-12-07T20:31:00.000-04:002006-12-07T20:31:00.000-04:00Hmm, maybe if the Judge was wrong about the police...Hmm, maybe if the Judge was wrong about the police, maybe he was wrong about Charles too...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9571186.post-1165498955333271422006-12-07T09:42:00.000-04:002006-12-07T09:42:00.000-04:00Charles you have bringing different topics up and ...Charles you have bringing different topics up and I find some interesting but they teed to disappear a little quick, before we get to add to the comments. Of course police also know they are under strutiny when using them, and when confronted with a mob there is no 'knowing' what the intentions of protestors are.

So that does take some courage, although from police behaviour at the trial I am less likely to give them too many benefits of the doubt. It takes a huge amount of courage to partake in a protest, to be vilified by the status quo through the media and harassed by police.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9571186.post-1165442496727324862006-12-06T18:01:00.000-04:002006-12-06T18:01:00.000-04:00haha If I sound outraged its because I can't belie...haha If I sound outraged its because I can't believe that a judge, somebody who we makes such crucial decisions over many peoples lives every single day, could make such a claim -- as if it was somehow relevant to the case. Courage comes in many forms, but I'd be willing to bet that, if we could quantify it, we'd see a far greater share among those who risk serious penalties in life. The most that the police suffered, and could have ever suffered, is a headache. The most that the people in the conference could have suffered is a disruption in making economic decisions on behalf of the entire province(s). It's unfortunate that the rich might lose a tiny bit of money so that the poor might keep what is rightfully theirs.

I'm not saying that you didn't deserve a victory in this case -- the truth is, there was no case. The fact that this went on for 4 days is telling of how serious such a petty charge is for the politics of the Irvings. I'm happy that the Judge decided to go with the ethical portion of his brain, but I fear that he did so only to prop up another unethical political agenda.

He made a statement that would justify the use of more force against protesters who are acting on behalf of the poor.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9571186.post-1165442005912403082006-12-06T17:53:00.001-04:002006-12-06T17:53:00.001-04:00Are you kidding me? Are we to commend the police officers for 'doing what they are told', defending capital, defending the interests of New Brunswick's elite, for turning their backs on the poor? The protesters, with their arms to their sides, were NOT waving sticks. It was the police who were armed, and they sure as f@ck flaunted it: waving their batons, unsnapping their guns, violently pushing around protesters, etc. We can't forget that the police officers are a part of CUPE -- they turned their backs on their own f@cking union.

No. The police did NOT have courage. They lacked the courage to stand up to their bosses. They lacked the courage to advocate on the side of the poor. They had no courage at all.

The protesters, facing possible jail time, stigmatization from the Irving-owned press, physical force from the police officers, possible tazers, etc.. that's where the courage was.

You can't possibly tell me that the folks with the guns needed courage to handle a situation against unarmed protesters.

This judge may have given Charles a victory, but in the process it gave capital an the elite an even bigger one.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9571186.post-1165442001889276912006-12-06T17:53:00.000-04:002006-12-06T17:53:00.000-04:00Are you kidding me? You may think you are impartial and a journalist, but you came out loud and strong against the business initiative. You were hoping the Police would hit on one of the protesters and you would get pictures to crap all over the police and instead they hit on you.
