Hey??? Don’t forget, if you wish to make a comment of the LNG<> You can do so by phoning a local radio talk show in Saint John.
It’s called- CFBC Talk of the Town. The toll free number is 1-800-561-8255!!! You can phone between 9:00am till 11:00am during the week!!! Then of course, you can talk about many different issues that concern you.
Speaking of talk shows? The show – Voice of the Province <> the Premier who was the guest last week received 45 calls but only 12 got on!
That’s a lot of calls!!!!
On another issue, please have a quick look in the poor section of my blog site! You will see a picture of the inside of the Soup Kitchen!
I will never forget the time that the 6-49 was 20 million dollars.
I asked George Piers <> What will he do if he won the Lotto?
He walked away with his head down and whisper - The first thing that I would do is get a bigger kitchen!!!
Take a look at the picture and you tell me??? The people who go at this needy place have many problems and you can just imagine sitting in a small room elbow to elbow. Once in a while trouble would break loose but the staff would quickly come to the rescue to cool things down!
Ok…Lets go to our person of the week!
Citizen of the week- Mike Gaudet!
I know the week isn’t finish yet but this fine gesture will be a very hard act to follow!
I met Mike Gallant while I was protesting. After a few weeks, I’ve heard that there was a Farmer’s Market in this area. I was told that thousands of citizens go to that place every Saturday morning.
I said to myself - What a great way and place to collect signatures for my petition?
I won’t go into the details but I was told to go across the street to collect names.
Once there, I noticed a tell gentleman standing there. His name was Mike Gaudet and he didn’t seem to impress with me.
At first, I didn’t know what was going on but I would find out that Mike was a Panhandler. In his mind, I was interfering in his territory!!!!!
Someone would walked by and we both would confront the individual. I was confronting for signatures and he was asking for some spare changes. He let it known to me that this has been his area since 1984 and he sort of told me to go somewhere else.
Weeks went by and I would see Mike around but I didn’t really chat with the guy.
I made a little investigation and I was told that Mike could have been a huge star in baseball??? Many told me the same story. I guess something happen and he took a down turn for the worse.
I would soon find out that Mike reads the paper. Every instance I write a letter to the Editor? He would always give me a comment on the streets! I might add that he’s very educated on different issues.
So why did I voted this guy Citizen of the week you asks?
Well? Yesterday, while volunteering at the Soup Kitchen! I decided to go outside for a smoke. Mike walked by me while debating an issue with a friend.
Being Charles? The nosy person that I am? I had to ask what they were talking about?
You see? I do hear a lot of stories from the street people in that area? Which reminds me? No one from Family Services went over to chat with the pregnant girl yet! I wonder why?
Anyway? Mike told me he was panhandling in front of the CIBC Bank on Queen Street.
Someone walked by him and an envelope fell on the ground.
Mike picked it up and behold inside was - $450.00!!!!
He shouted at the guy who drop the money on the ground. The guy took the money and left! He never thanked the guy and didn’t even give Mike a few bucks!
My God? How can some people sleep at night?
During my protest, I learned there’s many ignorant people in this City!
Anyway? This is the reason that I wrote this little update because it stories like this that no one hears about!
Good work Mike!!! You did the proper action and once I see you on the streets asking the citizens for a little change? I will see you in a different way!
I hope many readers have a different attitude towards you also???
By the way? Just for the record? It wasn’t an easy task to have Mike picture taken with me. He trusted me and I do appreciate this!
Ok..I wrote too much already…Got to go at the Legislature.
The session opens at 1:00pm! Please excuse the style and grammar of this update because I just write the darn thing and send it along the information highway!
Don’t forget to tell everyone on your list about this blog site! It’s a great way for New Brunswick to share their views on different issue!
Bye bye

I wouldn't be surprised if that guy was an undercover cop who wanted Mike to take the envelope and then have him charged with theft. In many places street people are charged and have severe restrictions on where they can go or are sent to jail.
Of course I also wouldn't be surprised if the guy was just rude. Mind you, he could've been poor and bringing his last $450 to pay his rent! One never knows!
Don't be too quick to judge people, Charles!
Sounds like Mike deserved some reward, but the guy with the $450, maybe it was his rent money, and he needed it. Maybe it wasn't even his - he might be just an employee getting company money out.
Anyway, I give Mike a couple bucks whenever I see him and have a twonie in my pocket, but I never knew his name before. Thanks for the story!
Good story about Mike. What happened to your friend Tim Smith and VLT issue?? First he was told something would be done. Now Premier says there was referendum and people want VLTs . Therefore it is not Premier’s fault it is the people who want it. Too bad for Tim Smith and others who are paying the price.
Or LNG is the fault of city of Saint John they approved it and tax break and Premier says it is not his fault. It is always someone else’s fault. All the problems NB is facing is McKenna Government’s fault, federal government’s fault and Arab Sheiks’ fault who raised prices of oil.
It is like Ritalin. First Premier was going to do something about it and now since 1999 election he has been saying that it is up to the doctors. Doctors prescribe it so it is doctors’ fault and not his. You seem be just happy to get your picture taken with him. Are you going to post it? Not many are so fond of seeing his picture or him the way he is treating people of this province. And the way he is ignoring problems ordinary New Brunswickers are facing including poor, soup kitchen, people who run it and those who go there to eat.
It is better to see picture like Mike--the real face of NB and what is happening.
I am still around I just sent a letter of intentions to my addiction councilor and am in the process of emailing it to Mr.lord I have been unsuccessfully emailing a few mla's of both parties and also I have emailed the Liberal leader as resent as last night but as of yet have gotten no reply on his stand on this issue.I am asessing my options toward another go at this issue but have some priorities that have to be taken care of first but will keep you posted to my near future intentions
Nova Scotia made great strides about VLT by removing over 1000 VLTs.. How did it happen there. Is it because Premier Ham is a medical doctor and understands the problems? He did take bull by the horn to certain extent. Or is it that there was greater public pressure in Nova Scotia. One would think that NB will learn from Nova Scotia experience but does not look it.
Is there a court case against government here for all the losses individuals have suffered? Some times lawyers take cases on contingency basis and that is they get paid if they win the case and get the compensation money. Some consideration may be given to that. Just publicity from the court case may force the hands of the government to do something.
Congratulations to Mike for his honesty. Thats the way we all should be.
It's a shame that the person couldn't of given him a little something
for his honesty but people are weird. He still did the right thing and he
will be rewarded for it someday thats for sure. I can't believe how small
the soup kitchen is and the people aren't even in the picture. It is hard
to picture 40 people inside. It certainly doesn't compare to the soup
kitchen in Saint John for looks and beauty but a least in Fredericton they feed their hungry more then once a day. So looks aren't everything, the
main thing is feeding the hungry.
Hi charly,
How are you? It would be a beautiful day if you like snow.
Anyway, I am wondering if the media are still ignoring the lady with a
babe, living in front of the soup kitchen.
If anyone hasn't cover this for her, I would love to. I think my article wouldn't be influencial, but it is better than nothing.
I am planning to do freelance for "Here."
But...would she be confortable if I write a story on her?
Enjoy the weather! It should be the last snow for this season.
YOU GOING TO WORK FOR HERE?????? Did you already dedicated your life and soul to the evil Irving Empire???
I love the idea of a lawyer on a contigency basis. I wonder if we could get one to go up against the legal heroin problem that is ruining the youths and others from our Province? I certainly could get the people for a lawyer to fight for. Thats a great idea and I must investigate it myself.
There are many lawyers in Saint John. Elizabeth Weir’s husband practices law. His law firm or he may suggest many others. Then there are many other law firms in Saint John who may be willing to take on government. There might as well be a case for a class action on VLTs. Shop around.
Current provincial government only understands language of the law. If there is a court case and publicity from it, which current government cannot afford, may help resolve many VLTs related issues. Plus demonstrations may do the trick.
I have argued that exact fact comparing VLT's scattered all through out the communities is no different than when the dope dealers were in they're place except now they are electronic dealers that don't have to go home and take a break or have to sleep they never go away from when you go out to when you retire for the day and that's just the way bernard lord likes it. I have said It should be illegal for this to be taking place as it exploites human addictive behaviour and there is no time in the day to be able to escape it My belief is that casino's are a business which should be housed as such with hours of operations in a spisific location so as to please both sides of this contravercy I don't think reducing them will have the same benificial aim as reducing them to specific hours to allow possible addicts to be able to move about freely amoung their communities without the urge to give in to addictive personality which in turn provides proper entertainment to those responsable enough to play and gives those who are not a chance to move about without fear of falling victom to the call of disparity through addictive personality
Tim,
Could you send me an email? senator@nbnet.nb.ca
I'd like to ask you some questions. Thanks.
the comments above bring up a very good way of looking at this government's addiction to video lottery revenue,I agree that you would think they should have to house them in a specific space as this does indeed present a case for arguement on the grounds that it is knowingly taking atvantage of addictive personalities with no relief as these are on from first coffee break of the day until last thing at night and in as many spots as allowable if in fact this were other dealers of any type they would certainly be breaking the law as we know it.
Hi Charles! Just discovered your blog. Really nice of you to put a face on needy people.
Regarding the kitchen soup, beside bringing them those items, are they in need of volunteer for weekend? I work a lot during daytime but would like to help them during weekends. Let me know please (news4gigi@hotmail.com).
Mike Gaudet, citizen of the week? Best laugh I've had it a few weeks.
That guy deserves no praise for what he does.
He uses his size and appearance to intimidate people to give him money. If you don't, he insults you or shouts at you.
The guy is obviously big and stong, you tell me he can't find a job doing some kind of labour?
yeah, he could have been a big baseball star except he got into drugs and that's why he's where he is today.
He was charged under the new fredericton bylaw that is to protect people from being harrassed on the street, which is exactly what he does. There are other panhandlers, like charlie(who has since left the city I believe, but used to have a little monkey that he used to make dance) who don't bother you and at least make an attempt at performing or doing something to earn the change. Hell, I'd give all my change to the blind lady with the crazy omnichord keyboard and had the most awful singing voice who used to come up from saint john any day over Mike Gaudet.
Anyone is welcome to volunteer at the Fredericton Community Soup Kitchen. Volunteers usually show up around 8:30am for the lunch shift, which lasts about 4 hours or the evening shift at about 3:50pm and you are usually out of there by 6:15pm at the latest. The kitchen always needs volunteers so remember the poor don't only eat around the holiday season...

WCIE
At first? I will admit that Mike came out very strong asking for money and I will admit that many will call him a pain in the butt! I also noticed Charlie and another guy dancing a stuff monkey for money! Other will play music instruments and other will have a sign-What would Jesus do??? But all I did in this update was to give credit where it's due! Mike gave the guy the money and I believe this was a good deed from his part! You can't condemn a person for doing a good deed???
CHARLIE YOUR COMMENT SECTION HAS SHUT DOWN I DOUBLE CHECK BY TRYING 4
DIFFERENT STORIES AND TRYING TO LEAVE A COMMENT AND THE MESSAGE SAYS NOT
AVAILABLE??? I HOPE THEY AREN'T SOBATAGING YOU!!!
Comments appear to be working fine.

Reply reg. the citizen of the week:
...Every person has good and bad in them...Charles wants to challenge people to bring out the "good" in people and make a better world! He's praising a man for doing a good deed and not judging him, on his ordinary behavior! We can pat ourselves on the back for not having to pan handle,,,but, how many of us would of taken the bag of money and not given it to the owner????????....But, I also agree that it could of been a "trap"... Years ago, my daughter (around age 12) had all of her savings of $100. oo in her purse...She left her purse on the chair in a cafe, at the mall...We saw a movie before she remembered that her purse was missing....We went to the security office later and a worker had turned it in, earlier! Now, the worker did an honest thing...but, she might have thought that someone was testing her, on her honesty, by leaving a purse there and trapping her with security camera's...and if she took the money...>>>would she have been prosecuted??? So, sometimes people are honest and good when being watched and sometimes people are evil and greedy when no one is watching... It's just what "side" of the person, we see! And, what's in every person's heart ??????????,,,, Only, God know's for sure!!!!! And, only God knows Mikes heart and if Mike was doing a good deed for the day/minute ; then he should be praised for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But, I also agree that a strong man should not be out begging!
Where is the help to get the addict off of alcohol and drugs???...Where are the jobs for people that want to work??? Where is the support and encouragement and help for these people....or does society just want to "rid" themselves of them?????? And, why do the rich people just want to close their eyes???????!!!!!!!!!!!!
I kind of sense that Charles does and says what's in his heart--most of the time and that's why people like to hear what he has to say and Charles is interested in what's going on in the the heart's and minds of people! I just wish there was a way for him to get paid for this service; in "representing" the people and communicating their wishes!.......
The only payment that I care about? Is when my day of Judgement arrives! Nothing else really matters but I must admit that I use a good old fashion drunk once in a while!!!!...lol
