How sad! To keep himself in power Bernard Lord has set aside everything else. This man's narcissism is too much to take.

Booten the Hooten and then kick Bernie's butts. We are spending millions for Bernie and his ministers. For what? So that he can get ahead in life.

Charlie I've been skimming through some of your stories and also reading a few comments attached to them.
I would like to leave a little note to say you have come along way and it's looking very good!

Keep it up your doing a great service for the public.

Didn't you hear?
This is to help Mrs.Hooton's message passed down from Mr.Lord on how he wants to do business and educate the University Students on his views of proper politics.

NOT their views on how it should work for the benefit of proper edicate and a demacratic system that works for all New Brunswickers.

Can't you see? think for me! I'll set you free! You poor misguided generation of misfits!

Bernie is the biggest wimp around. How he became our premier in the first place beats the hell out of me.

Merci Beaucoup but this would have never been possible if it wasn't for all the people who joined the team to make this blog a success.

Yes this past weekend we have several visitors in Saint John, with the permanent license plates and The Exexcutive car were also here in the parking lot of Service NB and the parking lot across from Hooton's head quarters. Lord and geta long gang have been spending the taxpayers money quite freely lately and likes to say "Hooton" has done this for more votes. Please for her I'm begging you tell your parents, look what we have done to Boys and Girls Club; are we special. This is what a city employee said to the children, tell your parents Hooton gave this money!
When our electricity bills, fuel bill, gas bills, any other bill goes up we can thank the Lord government who sold us out. The orimulsion fiasco, LNG Bill passed to freeze a Billionaires Taxes for 25 years; should been taxpayers and citizens of Saint John receiving that tax deal. St Joseph needs the same funding Moncton receives for their two hospitals. And they say they understand poverty, they only understand taking money from the poor and continually give to the riches family and let the suffer. We need to start a Robin Hood group and start taking back what is rightfully the people's money from the rich and share it with all of the people; especially now that the Lord government only favors his wealthy friends. Give hooton the Booton.

I heard there was around 350 voters this Saturday; not sure if that is good or not. Nice warm day for a walk or drive, no excuse not to vote. No car, call and they will pick you up anytime. Please vote. Give Lord what he has been deserving- Boot Hooton. Call Dr Doherty for the drive or the other two candidates. Irving paper gives advertisements and special warm fuzzy stories for Michelle all the time. We have had enough of this please vote! Tell the UNB story from the students version or professor not only Michelle's. Bias or what, edited Rogers debate, how low can they go!

Did you see in the "Office of the Chief Electoral Officer" website, Michelle Hooton shows her profession as an "ENTREPRENEUR" & not deputy mayor!! Guess she's already decided that's not the job for her.

Candidates: The candidates nominated in this electoral district are:

PC Party: Michelle Hooton
Entrepreneur, 122 Carmarthen St, Saint John, NB E2L 2N8

Liberal: Dr. Ed Doherty
Physician, 2 Union St, Unit 204, Saint John, NB E2L 5A7

NDP: Dan Robichaud
Stain Glass Manufacturer Artisan, 125 St. John St, Saint John, NB E2M 2B4

Independent: Glen A. Jardine
Businessman, 145 Bedell St, Saint John, NB E2K 2C3

Remember, Hooton had 13,192 votes which gave her the deputy mayor's position last year. Let's make sure this number is substantially lower for this election. The mayor had 15,342 votes. Can you imagine? City of Saint John voters almost had Hooton as mayor!

Does anyone know how many eligible voters there are for this by-election & how many votes are needed to secure the position?

Did you know that we the people of Saint John always felt the Mayor Councillors votes were fixed or some what shady? It was the first time for the computer system and all seemed find until we found out they had the voters name in several books and they were not crossed off and some people got away with voting more then once. Picture ID should be a must and before you leave after you voted someone should have a system that controls the tracking of voters. I don't know if anything is really full proof or honest but someone may have an idea to share. Someone has said there was several hundreds put through illegally but who knows. I never voted for Hooton or the Mayor. I was not fooled by them but we have sentenced to this tax burden for 25 years.

In fairness 8:01, Deputy Mayor isn't a full-time job and given the pay that comes with it, it shouldn't be. I would be all for changing that but we as citizens would have to be willing to pay more taxes so that municipal politicians don't have to have another job and can devote all of their time to the municipality. That's why we often have retired people or people self employed as our municipal politicians. They're the only ones who have some flexible time to do it. There's little glory in being a municipal politician and I don't slight anybody for doing it. It's often a thankless job where you're always going to make somebody mad.

Thanks for your feedback Spinks. I agree with what you said, however, Hooton was elected (based on what she promised to do) to represent the city & really only gave the position 12 months of her time (maybe less?).

Hooton and Lord have been connected for some months and he invited her as part of a small group of municipal leaders to a retreat at the government's fishing lodge, Larry's Gulch resort, during the summer of 2005. Hooton definitely had plans to leave most probably instigated after the LNG incident.

Her commitment to this position, thankless or not, has been short lived. As far as pay goes, most do the job as they feel they 'can' make a difference & candidates know what the pay & hours will entail before getting involved. Besides, Hooton doesn't need the money. The exposure she receives is reward in her eyes.

She made a lot of people upset so my guess is she's ok when things are going her way. If you can't stand the heat..........

On the Agenda for Cabinet it says NB Health but only health important to Lord is his own. That is why he is ignoring day to day business of the government and he and his cabinet are busy to get Hooton elected. Then, of course, he did not do much for the province anyway even when he was not busy with this byelection.
