Question from a reader....

Charles,

What do you think the government and Irvings are doing now to control the price of gas and close down the smaller businesses and have the consumer pay more no matter what?

Notice Irving has little to say right now; wants everyone else to choke and fold and hopefully close or walk away.

The government and Irving are greedy to put the margins for everyone excepts themselves.

First rate gouging has happened for years and nothing with change except control all parties and try and to take full control. Do you think they wanted this to work? What a con job and unfortunately they will draw on the price per barrel. They are slick but greedy!

When the price per barrel was down and the cost was lower most places; we in Saint John, NB (where fuel is refined) we always paid more. Why? No travelling expense and if there is no competition well I guess we should charge them more for Saint John City water- reason no competition.

We needed regulations in force but it should be for Irving and the government; both have been so used to the extra revenue they will not share even after it is publicly known they are making millions in profits.

The people of NB have always been patient and generous; these parties have gone too far.

The government needs money for services and Irving needs to make money but we need to get a little break to to make a living so we can pay our bills but now we are struggling and many will lose alot.

Yes I do think some would love if the smaller businesses closed after all Irving does not like to share the market and that has been quoted from them. They don't want competition. Lots is really going on but in the end we should not have to pay $1.16 at this time. We should be receiving dividends for all the pollution and health risks. Government needs to drop the tax rate a few cents to help off set the price. They are receiving alot more then they need right now.

We would love to stop driving but it is not realistic. We all have made changes but that is not the problem. Most of us use our cars
to go back and forth to work and do our errans before after work.
We are not the big consumers.
It is a necessity today to acquire work.
Stop with the guilt and fix this problem.

This is a worldwide problem, no point in pretending its exclusive to NB. Keep in mind that government taxes volume, NOT profits, in other words, just because the price goes up doesn't mean the government gets more.

If you think the government can afford to drop the tax you are crazy. New Brunswick is now deficit spending again, even though its technically illegal. The federal government is supposed to send more funds in the fall so that the next budget doesn't show just how badly the NB government is doing.

The provincial government is barely getting by. That doesn't mean they are blameless, but its hard to start taxing Irving more when you barely have a majority and the Irvings own every newspaper. The only reason Lord even has a shot is that Irving is happy with how he treats them. In Moncton he'll win no problem since he buys them off and the Times-Telegraph is basically a propaganda rag, printing government press releases without change.

Go to www.davidwcampbell.com if you want to see the REAL economic statistics for the province-they are grim indeed.

New Brunswickers are at a disadvantage because their elected officials are literally dumb as posts. I've never seen such incompetence and immature adolescent behaviour as these clowns. They have literally given the province over to the corporations without a word, and seem quite anxious for the depopulation of New Brunswick to continue.

Still amazing how NB people put up with the abuse and we take this abuse over and over. Beginning to believe all people here are dumb too.

What is still even more amazing is we have many informed educated people but not one in our society would step forward and try to help with real issues like this.

I guess what really matters; is that they want to maintain there life style and who really gives a dam about anyone else. As long as they are not struggling who gives a hoot.

These highly educated people have not met any morale obligation.

It has become a really greedy world and frankly alot of phony caring and yes they are there to fund raise and expect our dollars.
