Coming Back to the Father
by Father Todd Arsenault, LC
Resolution: Make sure that you make a good examination of conscience today.

Saturday of the second week of Lent
Luke 15: 1-3, 11-32
Tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to listen to Jesus, but the Pharisees and scribes began to complain, saying, "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them." So to them he addressed this parable. "A man had two sons, and the younger son said to his father, 'Father, give me the share of your estate that should come to me.' So the father divided the property between them. After a few days, the younger son collected all his belongings and set off to a distant country where he squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation. When he had freely spent everything, a severe famine struck that country, and he found himself in dire need. So he hired himself out to one of the local citizens who sent him to his farm to tend the swine. And he longed to eat his fill of the pods on which the swine fed, but nobody gave him any. Coming to his senses he thought, 'How many of my father's hired workers have more than enough food to eat, but here am I, dying from hunger. I shall get up and go to my father and I shall say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I no longer deserve to be called your son; treat me as you would treat one of your hired workers."' So he got up and went back to his father. While he was still a long way off, his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him. His son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you; I no longer deserve to be called your son.' But his father ordered his servants, 'Quickly bring the finest robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Take the fattened calf and slaughter it. Then let us celebrate with a feast, because this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again; he was lost, and has been found.' Then the celebration began. Now the older son had been out in the field and, on his way back, as he neared the house, he heard the sound of music and dancing. He called one of the servants and asked what this might mean. The servant said to him, 'Your brother has returned and your father has slaughtered the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.' He became angry, and when he refused to enter the house, his father came out and pleaded with him. He said to his father in reply, 'Look, all these years I served you and not once did I disobey your orders; yet you never gave me even a young goat to feast on with my friends. But when your son returns who swallowed up your property with prostitutes, for him you slaughter the fattened calf.' He said to him, 'My son, you are here with me always; everything I have is yours. But now we must celebrate and rejoice, because your brother was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.'"
Introductory Prayer: I come before you, Lord, a sinner in awe of your great love and mercy. I believe in you, and I put you at the center of my life. I humbly put all that I am before you and, like the apostles, recognize my littleness before your grandeur. With the help of the Blessed Mother’s intercession, I place this meditation into your hands, trusting that you will give me the graces that I need most.
Petition: Lord, help me to recognize my complete dependence on you for grace to live according to your will. Help me to detach myself more each day from the enslaving clutches of sin and vice in my life.
1. Living for the Moment The younger son had it fixed in his head that he was losing out on life. He wanted to be where the action was, and he wanted to be there now. Much of what he perceived to be good was as he imagined, but it didn’t go much further than just having a good time and doing things as he pleased. He was reckless, and he caused much hurt by his actions. In life, it is so easy for us to put ourselves before others and to get what we want. We can find ourselves hurting those we love most. Christ is calling us to see our life not through the mindset of living for the moment, but through the eyes of eternity.
2. Reality Check The young man loses everything. He hits rock bottom. All that he had before is a distant memory. He remembers how secure he was when he was living with his father; he remembers how good even the hired hands had it. He sees that he has nothing to keep him where he is – out of his father’s grace – and so he begins the march back to his father. When we mess up and sin, we need to have this same attitude of contrition. Lent is a time wherein we can renew our relationship with Christ through the sacrament of confession. Like the younger son, we need to humble ourselves, realize that we have nothing to lose and everything to gain, and make our way back to the Father.
3. The Father Receives Us with Open Arms There wasn’t even time for the son to finish his prepared speech when his father smothered him with kisses and hugs and treated him like royalty. The Father treats us like this each time we run to him for forgiveness. He wants to hear our repentance, but more than anything he wants to build us up through his grace and presence in our life. This is the Father’s greatest joy: to have us back, safe and sound in his grace. He loves us so much that he makes this sacrament available to us 24/7. He wants our heart.
Conversation with Christ: Christ, thank you for the grace of confession whereby I am reunited to the Father of mercy. I am a sinner and have wandered far from you in my life. Yet you never give up on me; you seek me out and draw me back to yourself. With your grace I continue to strive to overcome my faults, defects and sins.
Resolution: I will make sure that I make a good examination of conscience today.

Dog The Bounty Hunter gets 2nd chance: A&E
Last Updated: Wednesday, February 20, 2008 | 2:04 PM ET
CBC News
Bounty hunter Duane (Dog) Chapman will be returning to his reality television series, three months after a racial slur caused cable channel A&E to suspend it.
A&E revealed late Tuesday that production on Dog The Bounty Hunter will start up again but a broadcast date has not been set.
Duane (Dog) Chapman, seen here in Honolulu, Hawaii last year, had his reality TV series pulled because of a phone conversation in which he used a racial slur against his son's girlfriend. "Over the last few months, Duane (Dog) Chapman has taken and continues to take the appropriate steps in reaching out to several African-American organizations in an effort to make amends for his private comments to his son which were released publicly," said a statement from the network.
"Since the premise of Dog The Bounty Hunter is about second chances — we have decided to give him one."
The show was taken off air last November after a private phone call between Chapman and his son Tucker was released in which the bounty hunter used the N-word to describe Tucker's girlfriend.
Chapman apologized several times publicly and to the African-American community, promising to make amends.
It was also discovered later that Tucker had sold a tape of the conversation to The National Enquirer.
The 55-year-old Chapman, based in Honolulu, Hawaii, is an ex-con himself.
He rose to fame in 2003 after capturing Max Factor heir and serial rapist Andrew Luster in Mexico, leading to his TV series.
The show follows Chapman, his wife Beth and their little posse of bounty hunters as they track down bail jumpers.
The show is seen in more than 10 countries.

WHO'S RIGHT IN THE ACCIDENTAL DEATH AT THE LNG PLANT IN SAINT JOHN?????

This guy is slow. I wrote this blog over one month ago!!!
http://oldmaison.blogspot.com/2008/01/worker-called-at-lng-plant-in-saint.html
DUHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Yes, the cranes were from the Shipyard. Not the LNG Plant!!!
DUUUHHHHHHH!!!!! You don't think that the Irvings would allow a blogger inside their plant after an accident do you???
Here's the individual comment -
Charles,
FYI... You must wear fall arrest equipment if you work more than 6 feet from the ground. You cannot be fired on the spot for not wearing the proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). There are steps to be followed before and employer can fire and employee.
Like any other work related accidents or incidents, an investigation must be conducted before any information is released...especially
when the accident involves a death.
Also, Charles there have been no cranes that have toppled over at the LNG site. The pics you have are from the old drydock when they imploded the old cranes. The incident with a crane was on the KWS site where a pile was dropped in the water.
So before anyone runs there mouth about the Irving's covering up accidents, get your facts straight before you post this non sense!!
You only make your self look like and sound like and ASS!!

SPCA apologizes after boy was 'traumatized'
Taken to room full of dead animals. 10-year-old had nightmares after taking the body of beloved family dog to shelter
IRWIN BLOCK, The Gazette
Published: 1 hour ago
When you are a child and have had a dog all your young life, the last goodbye is crushing
But that final, heartfelt departure became a horror story for 10-year-old Justin Miller-Clarke, who was ushered in to the SPCA last Friday to see how the body of his beloved dog, Marley, would be handled.
And now, an embarrassed SPCA has had to apologize to Justin and his family over the ''disposal'' of the beloved member of the family.

Font:****Justin's mother, Jacqueline Miller, described the events that followed the family's discovery of the 10-year-old dog, a German shepherd-Rottweiler mix who died at home while they were out.
They did not know what to do with Marley so they called the
SPCA on Jean Talon St. W., which said it would accept the body.
"We drove there and a man helped carry our dog out of the car. He then asked if we would like to come with the dog to say our last goodbyes," Miller recounted.
"He then proceeded to take us into the basement of the SPCA.
I was confused; I thought he would take us to an exam room or something."
The SPCA worker led them to a chute, which he opened and said: "It's full."
He then took the family down a long hallway in a room with bins.
"I could see dead animals on the top of (the bins), and I could also see a dead and bleeding cat on a table," Miller recalled.
The SPCA worker then placed Marley on a cement floor in the room filled with animal carcasses and told the family it could say goodbye.
"I was in total shock, my 10-year-old son was horrified - we both had nightmares and cannot forget the images we were exposed to.
"My son is traumatized - he asked me why they are throwing out animals like garbage," said Miller, who is a psychologist and Vanier College teacher.
In response to these events, Montreal SPCA executive director Pierre Barnoti said: "I'm horrified that one of our employees would take someone to our cold room."
They are kept there before they are sent to be cremated at another facility, he added.
"It is very hard to see that your dog is included with other animals waiting to be transported for cremation.
"It's an error of judgment on the part of our employee, who should have been sensitive to a 10-year-old," he said, adding that he "personally apologized" to the family.

The Chair of Saint Peter, apostle
Matthew 16: 13-19
When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" They replied, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter said in reply, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
1. Making the Faith My Own In today’s Gospel, Jesus asks his apostles to tell him who others say he is. Then he challenges them to take ownership and say who they think he is. Christ wants us to make an act of faith in him. He has called us to himself to be his disciples in a world that has labeled him everything under the sun. Today, people want Christ to be whom they feel comfortable with, but there is only one Christ for us to follow and worship, and that is the crucified Christ. Christ wants our hearts, not someone else’s opinion.
2. Acknowledging Christ before Others Peter acknowledges who Christ is by saying that he is the Messiah, the Son of the Living God. In other words, he is calling him God. This is a revelation to all, but it is one that Christ wants his apostles to understand and embrace completely, because it is essential to all he teaches them. Peter stands before his peers and says this in all confidence. He sets for us an example of how we are to respond before others, even perfect strangers. It isn’t always easy to stand up for our faith in Christ, in his divinity, especially since the world wants to take that away and make him simply one among equals. However, we preach Christ, the Only Son of God.
3. Your Reward Will Be Great in Heaven Maybe we won’t get a pat on the back or be praised by Christ like St. Peter was, but we can be assured that our testimony doesn’t go unnoticed. God our Father sees all and is pleased when we bear witness to his Son’s most holy name. As we journey through Lent, let us continue to offer Christ all that we are and to preach his name in season and out of season. Christ is counting on each of us to be his faithful friends and to be willing to embrace his holy Cross out of love.
Conversation with Christ: Christ, so often in today’s society people trample upon your most precious name. St. Peter, our first pope, gave witness to your divinity to the point of death. Our Holy Father continues to bear witness and inspire us all. I want to be a better witness of you, Lord, and allow people to see you in me. I want all souls to be saved and to know and love you fully. I thank you for being with me and strengthening me in the often difficult task of bringing you to souls.
Resolution: I will take advantage of an occasion to bear witness to Christ today.

Very Bad timing to go for a walk in Fredericton!!!

While chatting with someone inside a warm building. I noticed this woman flying on the icy sidewalk in the Capital.
I first met Marg during my protest in front of the Legislature. Her dog Millie was just a little puppy.
I was surprise to see her walk on the icy streets.
She told me the dog wanted to go for a walk and she's having a very hard time.
I quickly decided to walk her home.
Yes....the sidewalks are a very dangerous place for our elders these days.

TWO VIEWS ON THE ISSUE OF TERRY TOTTEN IN SAINT JOHN!!!!

FIRST VIEW -
or maybe something happening here!!
Editor's note: Sylvie Fitzgerald is a regular freelance commentator for CBC Radio's morning show in Saint John. Last week, after the CBC aired what she considered to be lopsided interviews of City Manager Terry Totten and Telegraph-Journal columnist John Chilibeck, she pitched, and was given the nod to write, a commentary for CBC on the Totten issue. Her commentary was to air on Thursday, but after much deliberation she was offered a kill fee rather than broadcast time by Deborah Irvine, the executive producer of CBC Saint John and acting producer of the morning show. What follows is Sylvie Fitzgerald's unedited commentary, which she entitled, "An apology to Totten from the taxpayers of Saint John."
Last week, the most powerful man in City Hall, City Manager Terry Totten, was interviewed by the CBC complaining that he and his family are being bullied by recent critical stories published in the Telegraph-Journal.
Two stories in particular, both filed by columnist John Chilibeck, were cited as having crossed a line of professional ethics. Totten accused the paper of bias and a generalized lack of facts.
Dammit, Mr. Totten, don't make me defend the Telegraph, with its endless storehouse of right-leaning, self-serving, no-name editorials. A more jaded commentator might suggest that throwing the unpopular paper, the city's favourite punching bag, into the pit of public scrutiny was nothing short of good diversionary spin.
What are the facts that Chilibeck left out? Or perhaps it's a case of the columnist including one fact too many. Being "young" and "pretty,-smart" and "ambitious-" all adjectives Chilibeck used to describe Margaret Totten, former Director of Tourism - aren't exactly insults. Commanding a huge salary by Saint John standards is no crime either, nor technically is being in bed with the boss. But taken as a whole, it smacks a little of good old-fashioned nepotism.
Margaret Totten may very well have been the absolute best candidate for the high-ranking staff position she eventually attained, but being married to the City Manager probably didn't hurt... and it opened up a gaping chasm of conflict of interest potential... just the sort that news commentators like to stick their finger into and poke around.
What is the whole story that Terry Totten wants the taxpayers to know? Is there something more that will help us understand last year's foiled Florida trip? Because any way you look at it, convalescing down south while on sick leave from a publicly funded plum job... looks pretty bad.
I mean, if I was pulling a sickie, I think I'd be a little more self-conscious. If you can't make it in to work, shouldn't you be crouched over a toilet or sequestered in a darkened room or something? Surely working on your tan doesn't count as work. I'm just saying if it was me, Jane taxpayer.
Maybe the Tottens' travel plans are none of my business. Maybe the much-abused Margaret Totten is nothing more than the pretty poster girl for the pungent aroma coming from city hall. After all, the Tottens have broken no corporate rules of conduct, because there are no non-fraternization policies in place at City Hall. But isn't that Chilibeck's point? How he went after the story may not be as high-minded as the moral majority would prefer... but if Chilibeck is guilty of anything, it's just printing what the rest of us are thinking.
Chilibeck's column is the first thing I read in the local rag. Let's just say he's got more of an edge then fellow columnist Fred Hazel. He serves up fresher fare than what's on tap in the Duncan diary. If the paper has some hidden agenda, as Totten suggests, I suspect it's nothing more despicable than the obvious - the desire to sell more papers?
Maybe the Totten saga isn't a very nice or tasteful story, but there is no doubt in my mind that it is newsworthy. Does somebody owe the Tottens an apology? It can't be easy being strung up as the paper's most popular piñata. But are Saint John taxpayers really supposed to imagine Terry Totten as the injured party of the piece? Particularly since the story evolved into a human rights complaint that may very well volley into yet another lawsuit for the non-litigious Tottens - this time requiring private counsel and potentially 12-plus weeks of mediation to the tune of undisclosed, but no doubt exorbitant fees. All paid for... you guessed it... by the taxpayers of Saint John.
And if we enter a Totten vs. Totten trial, where will the City Manager's allegiance lay? At home with his sick, allegedly discriminated-against spouse, or at work as chief executive responsible for safeguarding and efficiently administering our tax dollars?
If anyone's professional conduct needs to be checked, I'm not convinced it's Chilibeck's.
Sylvie Fitzgerald lives in Saint John.

SECOND VIEW -
Many people make the mistake of assuming the most powerful man in City Hall is the mayor. In some places this is true, but not in Saint John.
Mayor Norm McFarlane is a leader around the council table, but his power only goes so far. His vote is one of 11, so anything that he wants done requires the same majority that any other council member would try to win.
The most powerful person at City Hall is the city manager, who for the last year has often graced these pages for the wrong reasons. Terry Totten is the professional who signs off on city reports and draws up the $120-million budget. Council gives him direction, but most of the time he presents recommendations and the politicians accept them. Textbooks call the system in Saint John the 'weak mayor' form of local government.
The strength or weakness of this system largely depends on the unelected professional who runs the show. If he's a capable leader who makes wise decisions, the city runs smoothly. If he's a leader who's spent, who exercises poor judgment, the city falters and things fall apart.
A little over a week ago, this column cited a glaring problem in Totten's tenure at the top, one that has had people talking for years. It's the kind of behaviour that has a demoralizing effect on staff or worse, encourages them to emulate the same behaviour. Another manager might say, "If the boss can get away with it, why can't I?"
The column described how he had a relationship with a junior employee, who soon after became his wife and quickly rose to the top of her city department. It also mentioned how no one in power publicly challenged this questionable arrangement. The story provoked extreme reaction from readers who thought the writing crossed a line or praised it for telling the bald truth.
Totten himself is indignant. He appeared on the CBC to plead his case, saying that the newspaper was trying to destroy him and his family, and that the column was anti-women. He suggested there must be some sort of unknown motivation to get rid of him.
Not once has he addressed the substance of the issue. Human resources experts say the kind of arrangement the Tottens had at work can lead to trouble, namely liability for an organization. Well, guess what? After the cancellation of a questionable trip to Florida and the submission of her resignation, Margaret Totten is now threatening to sue the city and entering into mediation over her human rights complaint. She says her workplace discriminated against her because of her marriage to the city manager. This is what happens when a city has no non-fraternization policy. Taxpayers are now on the hook for expensive legal fees and possibly a big money settlement.
Why the city manager could not see this coming says a lot about his judgment. Leaders in public service must be beyond reproach. Even the appearance of favouritism should be avoided. Terry Totten basically said, "to heck with that," and did what he liked. When he started a relationship with his soon-to-be-wife, one of them should have left the organization to avoid the appearance of nepotism. It's as simple as that.
This is just one of many questionable decisions he has made that are a drag on the city. Totten is brilliant at passing blame. Whenever city problems are brought up, he quickly points the finger back at council and says the politicians are ultimately responsible. He's simply following directions.
Not on this issue. As the top manager making a generous salary, he should have known - and acted - better

Verdict on Dennis Melanson comes in today!!!!

I have been following this sad case very closely.
Guilty or not guilty?
I'm going to write a long winded blog on this issue.
He's the only guy I was close with who got charge with Child Porn.
I got quite a story on this issue. Watching a guy going down right in front of your eyes.
I'll go out of my way and make a prediction.
I say Dennis will be found not guilty.
Why?
1- They lost the evidence of the pictures on a CD.
2-Danny Watters told Dennis that he could search for research and he told the court the same story.

Guilty or Not Guilty? Dennis know that he's totally screwed social wise. Sort of like O.J Simpson.

One thing is certain!!!!
You'll first read the result of the verdict right here in this blog!!!!
Stay tuned!!!!!

Thursday of the second week of Lent
Luke 16: 19-31
Jesus said to the Pharisees: "There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen and dined sumptuously each day. And lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who would gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps that fell from the rich man's table. Dogs even used to come and lick his sores. When the poor man died, he was carried away by angels to the bosom of Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried, and from the netherworld, where he was in torment, he raised his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he cried out, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me. Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am suffering torment in these flames.' Abraham replied, 'My child, remember that you received what was good during your lifetime while Lazarus likewise received what was bad; but now he is comforted here, whereas you are tormented. Moreover, between us and you a great chasm is established to prevent anyone from crossing who might wish to go from our side to yours or from your side to ours.' He said, 'Then I beg you, father, send him to my father's house, for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they too come to this place of torment.' But Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.' He said, 'Oh no, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.' Then Abraham said, 'If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.'"
1. The High Life The rich man had it all. Since he had all the material needs he could ask for, he didn’t have a care in the world. It seemed as though all was perfect. But the poor guy did lack one thing. Jesus said it well when he told the rich young man to sell all that he owned, give it to the poor, and come follow him (cf. Matthew 19:16-22). Jesus’ advice is this: Put me at the center, before all else. The rich man put himself first. God was distant, unimportant. Perhaps we can see a little of ourselves in the rich man; perhaps we put material things ahead of our duties towards God and our neighbor, thus neglecting virtue of charity.
2. Nothing but Hope The poor man, Lazarus, was in need of a great deal. He suffered much. From the outside it would seem that God had forgotten him, whereas with the rich man, it would seem that God heaped blessing upon blessing on him. However, the poor man had one thing: his salvation. Even though we don’t hear it said, he hoped in God alone. What else could he depend on? This isn’t to suggest that we can’t have the necessities of life, but it goes to show us that in the end only one thing matters: putting God at the center of our lives.
3. One Life, One Chance to Live It Christ is calling us to be attentive to the action of the Holy Spirit in our lives. If we maintain daily contact with Christ in prayer, we will see the signs he sends our way. The rich man thought that phenomenal signs from the heavens would for sure convert his brothers, who were living their earthly lives as he had lived his. However, our Lord tells him that signs won’t make a difference. If their hearts are closed to God, they won’t pay attention or heed the warnings. We need to put Christ first no matter what our walk in life. In the end, this life is where we need to opt for Christ above all else.
Conversation with Christ: Christ, in this Gospel you show me that I need to turn to you in complete dependence to gain the Kingdom of God. I want to be with you, but I also want to bring to you as many other souls as possible. I promise to work hard in this life to do all the good possible and to share your love with all I meet. I want nothing more than to be your untiring apostle.
Resolution: I will look for the opportunity to show Christ’s love to someone today.

JOHN MCCAIN CAUGHT IN A SEX SCANDAL??? MORE U.S.A. BULLSH@T!!!!!
What did Pierre Trudeau say????

A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.
When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyist’s clients, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.
Mr. McCain, 71, and the lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, 40, both say they never had a romantic relationship. But to his advisers, even the appearance of a close bond with a lobbyist whose clients often had business before the Senate committee Mr. McCain led threatened the story of redemption and rectitude that defined his political identity.
