Charles,

It is my humble opinion that aliant/bell or for that matter any utility service such as Rogers or NB Power (A so called Public (meaning for the people Utility)) not charge people who’s income is less then what is currently considered to be the poverty level ( according the Canadian Council on Social Development current lists the poverty level for a single person at $17,895 per year in a city with a population of 100,000-499,999) miscellaneous charges for hooking up the service especially if a service call is not required.

Take for instance my circumstance: I live in a rooming house (do you remember the time you did a story on my being evicted from a rooming house for being gay?)

Well I found another rooming house to live in. In any case cable is included in the rent, however digital cable is not.

So I bought a digital box from Rogers hooked everything up and everything was fine. At the time I was working and I was able to pay the bill in full every month.

In October however I lost my job but continued to live in the rooming house; my doctor placed me on a medical as I suffer from GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) for a period of 9 months. During which time I was to take it easy and try to reduce my stress levels. In any case, my Rogers bill kept piling up until it reached a maximum of 115 dollars.

During Christmas I received in gifts enough to pay off the bill. So two days ago I went to my nearest Rogers Payment Centre and said here you go and handed them the 115; sure enough they said to me we are sorry Mr. Steele but because you were 3 months behind on your payments we have suspended your account and on top of the 115 that you owe us, if you want us to restore your digital service, you will have to pay a $25.00 “re-activation fee” .I said “Re-Activation fee”? What is there to re-activate?

I’m already getting cable as part of my Rent so what is there to “RE-Activate” they responded “if you want your digital cable channels (G4Tech TV, Discovery Health, and BPM) you will have to pay $25.00 in addition to the $115 you already owe us”. I said forget it and left. So now I owe Rogers 115.00 that I refuse to pay out of spite of their $25.00 “RE-Activation” fee.

See a service call isn’t required but I still have to pay $25.00 for someone to type a few commands into a computer . These are the fees and penalties I am talking about.

Sincerely,
Chris Steele

It was the first time I noticed a NB Liquor store in an Irving Gas Station.

I always believe that the Irvings would never allow liquor in their stores.

While in that area, someone told me the reason.

A few years ago, Esso had the license to sell Liquor in that area.

I believe it was on Christmas Eve that a person walked in the store with a gun and ordered everyone out from the store.

He put the building on fire and committed suicide.

The place was burnt down to the ground!!!

Esso had a lot of people going to their store because of the Liquor license so the Irvings had to move fast.

With their Irving lobbyists in Fredericton. They quickly got a license to sell liquor so Esso < competition > wouldn’t rebuild the store.

Without a liquor License? It would be ridiculous to open a new store.

So the Irvings are now selling liquor!

I wonder if today’s Irving Christmas or business parties serve liquor these days?

Is this the end of a proud trend of non-alcoholic beverages in the Irving stores?

Don’t the Irvings know you cannot ride a canoe when you’re drinking????...lol...

The end of a proud era indeed!!!!! K.C. Irving must be turning in his grave!!!

Saint John Police Force - Appeal process is done!!!

The prosecutor decided not to appeal the Judge’s verdict in my case.

Now, we wait for the verdict from the Police Force in Nova Scotia.

I have yet to receive an apology from the Saint John Police Chief so lets see what’s going to happen?

I believe that maybe my only option will be is to bring the Saint John Police Force to court in a civil suit.

The only problem with this suggestion is that I cannot find a lawyer to take a case like this one.

If it was down the States? I would have to use a chair and whip to stop the lawyers from bugging me.

It’s funny how out system is very different from our neighbors from the South.

I don’t know if this is a good thing or not????

It's over!!!!

I just wish to say that I always believe that Noel Chenier was only a photographer??? Maybe Noel can explain a little in this blog?

This is the email-

A friend of mine wrote to me to tell me their thoiughts and wants me to ask you to blog this for them. It will shed some light on the truth of it all. Would you please blog this so that the citizens and everybody else who's interested in this world can read it and understand how we get shafted each and every day in Saint John alone.

Charles,

What a very descriptive writer this Noel Chenier is.

I didn't think you could describe a pile of DUNG in such a fashion .

Isn't this the same Cambridge Narrows where hard working IRVING people tore through the HEART of BLUE HERRON nesting area?

These are the same Foresters who cry about power rates and get it reduced; the same foresters who have 5 foot water pipelines running from the city's water supply and does not pay what I believe fair market value; the same foresters who operate a sewerage holding pond for one of their mills within a stones throw of a rResidential community and whose owner suggested that he was going to fly fish in a "dead little river" in front of National T.V.

These are the same foresters who had a warehouse in the Grand View Industrial Park catch fire in 2000 and exposed all Saint John Firefighters that fought the fire to unknown hazardous chemicals because they didn't have access to an updated inventory list of the warehouse.

Then the chemicals ran and mixed with the water into Hazen Marsh in Red Head until the city RAN out of water in that particular system at which time the Water And Sewerage Department of Our City comes up with a plan to build a inner connecting system to supply a 12,000,000 gallon of water for any part of the city for 3 consecutive days in case of an industrial accident ever occurring again.

These foresters belong to the Saint John Board of Trade who are on record of agreeing for the need of such a project but don't agree on who will pay for said project which will cost $ 180,000,000.00 {residential taxpayers}.

That been said let's review what I understood at the Saint John Water Symposium in the spring of 2006 .The City of Saint John consumes 38,000,000 gallons of water a day and 10 Members of the Board consume 60% of that water some of those members would be Courtney Bay Power, Bayside Power, Irving Oil, Irving Paper, Irving Pulp and Paper, Irving Tissue. So if they pay 5 cents for 1000 gallons of water and they consume 60% of the 38,000,000 gallons these major consumers would pay collectively [38,000,000 x.6 x[.05/1000]=$1,140.00 a day.

How Fair Is That?

Glenn

God's minute.

( PSALMS 65:11-12 *NKJV )

Dear Charles,
As we come to the end of another year, let us pray that 2007
will be a year filled with love, hope, and peace.

Now when it comes to love; THIS IS THE COMMANDMENT
WE HAVE RECEIVED FROM HIM: THAT HE WHO LOVES
GOD MUST LOVE HIS BROTHER ALSO. AND ABOVE ALL
THINGS HAVE FERVENT LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER, FOR
LOVE WILL COVER A MULTITUDE OF SINS.
( 1 JOHN 4:21 ) ( 1 PETER 4:8-9 )

As for hope; NOW HOPE DOES NOT DISAPPOINT, BECAUSE
THE LOVE OF GOD HAS BEEN POURED OUT IN OUR HEARTS
BY THE HOLY SPIRIT WHO WAS GIVEN TO US. FOR WHAT-
EVER THINGS WERE WRITTEN BEFORE WERE WRITTEN FOR
OUR LEARNING, THAT WE THROUGH THE PATIENTS AND
COMFORT OF THE SCRIPTURES MIGHT HAVE HOPE.
( Romans 5:5 ) ( Romans 15:4-5)

Regarding peace; BE ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING, BUT IN EVERY-
THING BY PRAYER AND SUPPLICATION, WITH THANKSGIVING,
LET YOUR REQUESTS BE MADE KNOWN TO GOD; AND THE
PEACE OF GOD, WHICH PASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING, WILL
GUARD YOUR HEART AND MIND THROUGH CHRIST JESUS.
( PHILIPPIANS 4:6-7 )

Finally, Charles, MAY THE GOD OF HOPE FILL YOU WITH
ALL JOY AND PEACE IN BELIEVING, THAT YOU MAY ABOUND
IN HOPE BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
( ROMANS 15:13 )

Now Charles, may you have a safe and happy New Years
Eve, and let us all say a Prayer that 2007 will be a year of peace
and joy. Amen

With My Love & Prayers,
your servant Allen
