VLT'S - THE VOICE FROM A LOST SOUL!!!!!
The Daily Gleaner
VLTs continue to have a huge impact on lives

Webster defines an addict as one who gives oneself habitually up to some thing or substance.
Cheque day - the day in which those who are on income assistance receive money is also rent day at the shelter.
Ironically, it is also the time the province, via the VLTs, gets a great deal of its money back.
One person's ordeal with his addiction to VLTs is yet another accounting of this powerful habit.
This is his story.
Once, he tells me: "I had a wife and a child. I even worked. One day when I was leaving work, I stopped for a beer.
"Usually, I had just one and then went home. The lounge had VLTs and I didn't even know how they were played.
"I had a beer and from the change, from the $5, I asked the man next to the machine, 'How do I play this thing?'
"He showed me how to put the loony in and I won right away. I laughed. I won $60 my first time on the machines. I took the money and went home
.
"Two hours later, I went back. I lost the $60, then I put in $100 from my paycheque and lost that too!
"Ashamed, I went home. That was 10 years ago."
Now living full-time at the shelter, his addiction is causing another problem.
He can't always make it back from the bank to pay his rent here, nor does he have money to move out.
His addiction started the moment he sat in front of the machine.
He never knew he could become addicted.
Continuing his story, he says: "In the first seven months I lost $1,500."
Each time, he was trying to regain what he had just lost, and this month was no different.
He explained, to me, with head bent and shoulders deeply rounded from many burdens that, today, he had planned on moving out of the shelter.
He had looked for a room and, although two landlords wanted the cost of the room plus another months rent, he was just shy of $60.
He continues: "I get just over $500. I only took out $240 to get some things and a bit to play to see if I could get enough to move out.
"It was 10:50 a.m. At 11:44 a.m., I took out another $200 and then at 1:10 p.m.
I took out the last $60.
(He shows me his banking papers.)
"I have only $5 left and I didn't even buy cigarettes."
It was very cold that day, minus 25 degrees.
What would you do?
Would you say to this person, "You had a choice; you made a decision, so go sleep outside?"
I wonder, if you had to hear this story, see this man's face, feel his
disappointment with himself, and see that he is genuinely saddened by his inability to handle this, could you ask him to go?
I suggest it is a lot easier to talk tough, when you are not the one to look into their eyes.
We ask if he will consider counselling and go to GA meetings to help him deal with his addiction.
Then we ask - what do you think you could do about your relationship with the VLTs?
His answers are filled with pain, his voice rises with an anger showing from deep within.
Adamantly, he offers: "There should be no gambling allowed on the days cheques come out."
Then he offered: "Everyone on (income) assistance should have an ID card and, in order to open the machines, this card would be have to be put into it."
Also, he said: "Machines should record your ID and cut you off at a certain point."
Voice of the addict - the one, from whom we are always saying we need to hear.
My question is this. Is anyone listening?
Many other addicts have suggested removing the machines altogether.
Over the past two years we shared the government's profit figures, with you, from VLTs and have asked past governments why this money does not go into treatment or help with housing or shelters for those addicted.
In 2005, the profit was $129 million up considerably from 2004 at $110 million.
As the New Brunswick Task Force on Non Profits tour the province, will anyone be talking about the need to remove VLTs from our province, or will profits continue to represent the blood of many more ruined lives?

CBC FREDERICTON WILL COME BACK STRONGER!!!!
I really feel bad for the CBC crew in Fredericton.
My God? Two fires in one week?
That’s really too bad.
I’m always looking forward to the news at 6:00PM < Sorry Spinks! >
We need local news and CBC provides it!
I wonder if it’s time for CBC Fredericton to seek a new building?
The Fredericton Information Show should be back on the air next week. We need that radio show especially since the Legislature is open for business.
Yes, I missed and feel very sorry for the CBC crew < Once again, sorry Spinks! >
They will be back and will definitely make up for lost time!!! They will be stronger!!!!
Hang in there people!!!!
Here’s some picture of the second fire taken by Jackie Thomas.
She’s studying at STU in the Journalism class.
Jackie will share her photos in this blog.
She loves to walk around the City taking pictures. Two Charles LeBlanc in the loose?
Politicians and bureaucrats? Beware!!!....lol

NB POLITICO DOES A FANTASTIC JOB COVERING THE SESSION OF THE NEW BRUNSWICK LEGISLATURE!!
Bridge is always being used.....
NEW BRUNSWICK HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION!!! CHARLES WAS ON A TIRADE!!!
I have to stay away from these Human Rights forums.
Every instance I hear the word - Human Rights?
My blood just turns red in anger and this was the case last night at S.T.U.
I showed up to take a few pictures for my blog.
I listened to the professors giving the audience a presentation about Human Rights!
I went outside to calm down because I know our Human Rights Commission is totally useless.
Dan Weston from FAPO was there and they had a huge sign voicing their concerns about social conditions.
Hugh Parker who had made a complaint about Social Condition asked a question and once he said - We didn’t get an answer about my case.
Well? That did it! I took over and went on a tirade.
I didn’t have any notes with me. I began telling the people in the room about the racist Irving Supervisor I had and said - If I owned this company?
There would be no Niggers or Frogs working here but the Commission DARED to sent me an letter telling me that my complaint was without merit????
THIS IS PURE RACISM!!!!
Was I done? Of course not!
I continued with the Commission telling the Government that people with ADHD are close to mental retardation! These orders from the Irvings!!!! -
When Mr.LeBlanc was interviewed by Gulf Operators he informed us he had ADHD and was taking Ritalin there were medical limitations placed on Mr.LeBlanc. We accommodated Mr.LeBlanc disability by ensuring that he was given jobs and duties that complied with his medical limitations.
Sherry Merssereau < Irving Human Resources with no Doctorâs paper! > Supported by the racist members of the Human Rights Commission of New Brunswick >
I was told there were two security people in the room because they expected me to be there!
I even suggested that the Commission should be eliminated.
Jody Carr was sitting beside me and he must have been a little disappointed with my little presentation.
I went as far as saying that the Commission gave the ok for the staff at the New Brunswick Legislature to mental or sexually harass their employees because the Commission doesn’t have jurisdiction at the Legislature.

The only instance the Police will be called? If there’s violent crime committed?
I went outside and took a picture of Dan talking to the media.
Was I done? Of course not!
I even went as far to apologize for my behavior because this Commission totally refuses to address the issue of the poor!
I might add there was some refreshment with lots of sugar in it so this didn’t help matters. ...lol....
I told the Chairman Gordon Porter that the former chair person Alama Palmer used to speak about issues all the time and I the end? They got rid of her!!!
You Sir??? You haven’t said one word!!!!
There’s 20,000 roomers and boarders around this Province and they need help!!!
I never used the word violence in my blog or in public but it slip out during my little tirade.
What does the Commission want?
A protest in front of their building this spring with tents.
What will happen? The Police will be call and there could be violence?
All this because the Commission totally refuses to go public with the issue of the poor.
I am not a violent individual. Only if I’m attack? Therefore, I got to defend myself!
I added that there will be a meeting in Saint John next week concerning the issue of the poor.
They are going to hold the meeting at UNBSJ!!!!
I WAS FURIOUS!!!!!
How many poor people can afford to make it there???
The meeting should have been held in the South or North End!!!
Gordon Porter admitted that I made a good point but refuses to change the location of the meeting.
The Commission is very lucky that I can’t make it there because they would have to listen to me again!
I am not a violent individual. I just wish to help the poor but these bureaucrats don’t seem to listen.
Are they promoting violence? Is this the only way to get this issue on the front burner?
I talked to them but nothing is done!
What else can a person do??? Please tell moi?
One thing is certain? There will be a few protests in front of their building this summer because they totally refuse to speak about the issue of the poor.
I was told there were two security individual present because they knew I would be there!
This don’t surprise me because the Commission had the Fredericton Police Force present two years ago. Look at this picture? There’s a female undercover cop located behing me. I forgot her name? Bridge I believe? Not sure!
Once again? I apologize if I was a little out of control but I have been fighting with these people for eight years and there’s lots of anger in me.
I haven’t crossed that line yet and don’t plan too in the future but one certain is certain!!!!
I will continue to fight in this blog or in public on issues that I feel is not right!!!!
I’m very proud that I’m not someone who has a strong view in this blog and not a coward in public events!
A blogger who has a strong views on issues must not be afraid to face the public with his concerns!
I make it a habit to stay till the meeting is over but in this case? I was taking over the meeting with my emotion so I decided to go home before the forum was over!
Maybe this is the reason that I’m not working?...lol
Excuse the style of this blog. I wrote this one very quickly!!!!
God's Minute!!!
I'm very sorry but I had to add that one.
I'm not going to start adding private comments with God's Minute!
This is a one shot deal!!!!
NOW GODLINESS WITH CONTENTMENT IS GREAT GAIN.
FOR WE BROUGHT NOTHING INTO THIS WORLD, AND IT
IS CERTAIN WE CAN CARRY NOTHING OUT.
( 1 TIMOTHY 6:7 *NKJV )
Dear Charles,
In this World today it is so easy to get caught up trying to
make money, that it can become number one in our lives. We
may even forget at times how very short our human life is
compared to our Eternal life! FOR WHAT IS YOUR LIFE? IT
IS EVEN A VAPOR THAT APPEARS FOR A LITTLE TIME
AND THEN VANISHES AWAY. ( JAMES 4:14 )
We also may become easily distracted by those around
us, who are so consumed by the love of money that
they have lost sight of what is most important! If the truth
be known those people often have very unhappy lives, for it
is written; THE LOVE OF MONEY IS A ROOT OF ALL
KINDS OF EVIL, FOR WHICH SOME HAVE STRAYED
FROM THE FAITH IN THEIR GREEDINESS AND PIERCED
THEMSELVES THROUGH WITH MANY SORROWS.
( 1 TIMOTHY 6:10 )
Now that doesn't mean we should live a life of poverty
at all. For God wants His Children to prosper, after all
He said; BE STRONG AND VERY COURAGEOUS, THAT
YOU MAY OBSERVE TO DO ACCORDING TO ALL THE
LAW WHICH MOSES MY SERVANT COMMANDED
YOU; DO NOT TURN FROM IT TO THE RIGHT HAND OR
TO THE LEFT, THAT YOU MAY PROSPER WHEREVER
YOU MAY GO. ( JOSHUA 1:7 )
So when others distract you it is important to remember
that as a Child of God you have an even better life ahead of
you! A life without pain, sorrow, sickness or any other
adversity! One with the Angels, Arc-Angels and all the
Company of Heaven. An Eternal life with God and your
loved one's who have already passed before you. So
always; SET YOUR MIND ON THINGS ABOVE, NOT ON
THINGS ON THE EARTH. ( COLOSSIANS 3:2 ) For
then you will find true peace and happiness when you do!
Therefore Charles; I PRAY THAT YOU MAY PROSPER IN
ALL THINGS AND BE IN HEALTH, JUST AS YOUR SOUL
PROSPERS. Amen. ( 3 JOHN 2 )
With My Love & Prayers,
your servant Allen
