THE IRVINGS - THE FINAL SOLUTION OF MEDIA CONTROL IS NOW COMPLETED!!!!

Charles 04_07_05 022

A individual showed me this paper yesterday. On the front page it showed a story that the Irvings have bought the Tribune. It went on to say - this is the last flyer we are going to buy in New Brunswick. < Is there any newspapers left? >The also bought the French paper in that area. The Irvings are calling these newspapers flyers? What an insult to the people in that area. This paper was owned by the Raymond family since the 40s but no more. Yes, this is indeed a sad day in this province.

Its good of Brunswick News to save weeklies from purchasers from west of NB. It would be horrible if Rogers or another huge media force sucked the Atlantic Canada out of our newspapers.

but when you allowed only certain letters to the editorial section? I have a problem with that and I'm making a complaint to the Atlantic Press Council this weekend.

The first comment misses a central point, namely that foreign owners are far more likely to be objective, particularly in business issues because their owners would not be involved. The profits Irving makes certainly won't be staying in the restigouche area, so either way it's a lose-lose. I find it hard to believe that there are NO wealthy people in the north who could run the paper as a community paper, or no organizations.
