CAN BERNARD LORD WIN THE RIDING OF SAINT JOHN HARBOUR WITH THIS CANDIDATE???

Did Bernard learned his lesson in the riding of the Shediac Cape Pele last year? Will he upset the voters by waiting till the last minute or day to call a by-election? Can he win this election?

Hmmm, a new format for posting, my second favourite topic after the CBC (the NDP) and if that wasn't enough Draken a ecrit francais. The site is looking good Charles.

Let's face it, despite LNG and a host of other issues, the Tories are going to be the ones to beat. They picked a good candidate who has obviously been promised cabinet if she wins. What does Saint John have to lose? They get a cabinet minister for two years and if they like they can boot her out after the next election. The Liberals are going to need a high profile candidate and they know Hooton is that candidate because they wanted her too. The NDP has the most to lose. Brewer foolishly said after she won the leadership that she would run for any seat anywhere whenever one came up. She kind of backed herself into a corner to take a run to defend the only NDP seat in the province. Winning it will be difficult. If she can at least do a respectable showing and show that she represnts more issues than gay rights and abortion it might afford her a chance to gain some inroads but I still think anything less than victory will be considered devastating and the NDP knives will come out pretty fast. jwmcq as always has great points but the Liberals better find someone good and fast. They had Mark McNulty last time who isn't a bad guy and was well know but they still finished a distant third. It should be an interesting byelection.

I just learn that the by-election will be held on November 14th!

It will be interesting....Monday will be a coronation for Hooten. The battle with the Liberal riding will be between Ann Marie Mullen and Ed Doherty. NDP? Brewer???? Bernard Lord can have the best candidate around. People are upset with Bernard Lord so therefore there's no way in the world he'll win. They might split the vote and Hooten goes in? Who knows you're right it's going to be very interesting.

I think every politician has their own agenda Pat and their own way of how they want to govern. I'm going to take it Pat that you are from the Saint John Harbour area and if that is so you probably have the best insight into the feeling in the local stores, neighbours, etc. Obviously you don't want to see Hooton win but is that the general mood of the people you talk to?

Good question defender. I suspect the lure of a cabient post is the reason she went with the PC's even if it is for no more than two years. I don't know if she had any politicial affiliation before or not. She had both the Libs and PC's courting her and probably thought the PC's had more to offer at the current time which they do. Two years from now could be a far different story. Still, it's going to be a tight race.
