Just like her mentor Bernard Lord she does not have a clue. She does not know the riding and cannot represent the riding. If she does get elected it will be an atrocity for the people of Saint John Harbour and will be wrong for the province. Given Lord's many screw-ups he does not need any kind of endorsement. He should receive a strong message that people cannot take it anymore.

Bernie stop fooling the people of this province.

For a developed country we have too many slums in Saint John given its size and compared to other cities of the same size in Canada. Especially Saint John Harbour. Will Mr. Lord or Ms. Hooton care for the needs of this riding? I do not think so. Hey Saint John Harbour, given Hooton the Booton.

Bernard Lord screwed this province many times over.
He lied to us in 1999 when he did not tell us the real cost of removing highway tolls.
He lied to us in 2003 about our finances in order to win the elections that year.
He screwed the province on Orimulsion and we will pay very high hydro rates for decades to come.
He screwed the province on auto insurance and insurance in general. He is a total sell out to the insurance companies.
He screwed this province on LNG and gave over $100 million in tax break to Irvings. Not to speak of the total disregard for the environment of Saint John.
He screwed the province on healthcare by closing hospitals and hospital beds after too much money was lost on the botched highway tolls.
He screwed the province on Molson deal by giving away $6 million taxpayers’ money.
List of his screw-ups goes on.
Does this lying and conniving man deserve another chance from us by electing Michelle Hooton? By electing her we will be sending a very wrong message to Bernard Lord. Let us send him the right message that we cannot take it anymore. Too bad for Ms. Hooton that she associated herself with such a loser.

Since this isn't mentioned enough about insurance, NAFTA prohibits provinces or the federal government from starting ANY public programs which would compete with private enterprise. If they do, they can be sued by the companies for the amount they claim to have lost.

This is the same reason that we haven't had child care money, Lord wants it to go to parents, but under NAFTA, because its a federal program, it HAS to go to companies doing business in child care.

This is relevant because of the above mention about insurance. WHen ANY political party says they will create a public utility for auto insurance they are LYING. This is ominous because Shawn Graham recently said they would 'nationalize' auto insurance. He is lying, or he is completely stupid.

9:50 AM would you explain why Manitoba has public auto insurance. Or they violating NAFTA. Are you lying. If Bernard Lord knew that it will be violation of NAFTA then why he asked Elizabeth Weir to study public insurance models and recommend one. Who is lying here? You're digging a deeper hole for yourself.

In case of childcare why Lord wants to go against NAFTA when he does not want to do so in case of insurance. Why other provinces including Atlantic provinces have signed agreement and bright spark Lord has not. Your argument is unintelligent at best.

PoliticsNB said...

What are you talking about. Manitoba and Vancouver have a public insurance system. Quebec has a half public half private system. As far as the child care money we don't have it because Lord has played politics with that money. Most other provinces have signed and recieved their money. Where the hell does Nafta come into it???? I think you should check your facts.

New Brunswick has the worst federal/provincial relations in recent memory. Our children are still waiting for childcare money. Why? Because Bernard Lord’s politics comes before anything else, even before our children. Municipalities are waiting for gas tax rebate to get on with the business of improving infrastructure. Again Bernard Lord’s politicking comes first. There are over $200 million sitting for the childcare and gas tax rebate but it has to cross the hurdle of Bernard Lord’s lousy politicking. His politicking and self-promotion supersedes the well being of New Brunswickers. We just cannot take it anymore. We got to give Hooton the booten to put Bernard Lord in his place. We must stop this man before he does any more harm.

We must all say in unison: “We cannot take it anymore.”

Whenever things get hectic and problems escalate in NB. Bernard Lord’s response has been to go travelling. When we were struggling with closing hospital and hospital beds, high insurance rates, high gas prices and high hydro rates Bernard Lord’s response was to travel some more. Travel to France, Burkina Faso Africa, New York, Taxes, Washington, D.C. Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and on and on at the cost of tens of thousands of dollars to taxpayer. He said he was promoting the province. Can he give even one example how our province got promoted and what were the benefits to the taxpayers? It was all for his personal pleasure, running away from problems, burying his head in the sand like an ostrich and self-promotion. Bernard Lord has put this province in a very untenable position. We must rescue our province from this self-centred and incompetent man.

Our veterans offered the ultimate sacrifice offering their lives to protect our freedoms and freedom of generations to come. They fought against tyranny and they fought against dictatorship. They fought against Nazis. How did Lord government pay them back it sued our veterans. Put it bluntly after fighting Nazis they had to fight for their rights, to survive on their meagre income including disability pension, against Huntjens and Bernard Lord. Disability pension which Lord government wanted to take away from them. You must have read Ms. Ratchford’s letters to editor and how her father, who is a Second World War veteran, was treated. These veteran would have not dreamt in their worst nightmare that their own government would sue them someday to claw back their disability pension. Disability as a result of their war injuries. Lord government did not spare our veterans. This has gone too far. Lord government has failed us over and over again. It is time that we kick Lord’s butts and his ministers’ butts. It is long overdue that Premier and his ministers step down.

This province is going through a very difficult time, thanks to Bernard Lord.

Hooton had some saps promoting her at the Sea Dogs game last night. When they were announced as a visiting group the crowd irrupted in boos. It was great.

Check your own facts, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan all had public auto insurance BEFORE NAFTA (the agreement is not retroactive). How many have brought it in since...ZERO.

They have 'studies' and 'public meetings' on it for the same reason they have 'studies' and 'public meetings' on EVERY issue-to make it look like they are democratic. Then they go ahead and do what they already planned on doing. Lord is a conservative, do you HONESTLY think you'd see a public insurance system in New Brunswick? Not while NAFTA is around (and probably not even if it wasn't).

For child care the same goes, every province that has an agreement on child care has a program where that money goes to PRIVATE COMPANIES, NB is the only one that wants money for stay at home parents, which would be a public program, so it isn't allowed. Under NAFTA ALL programs have to be private.

Don't believe me, go research NAFTA.

I just don't understand how these people can go around with swelled heads thinking they're doing well with people.

Premier lord was boo'd at St.John High School.

Macfarlane was boo'd a few days later at Lord Beaverbrook Arena

Hooten gets boo'd a few days after that at Harbour station.

But yet they think they're doing great things and making great strides with the people of New Brunswick????????????!!!!!!!!

Well hit me up side the head with a shot of reality because this is about as far into the twilight zone as I care to go.

Everything Bernard Lord has done is so far is not only determental to Saint John but whole New Brunwsick. Man is unreal. He does not realize that he is the most hated man in NB. If you pick one city then may be he has done more harm to Saint John. Examples:

LNG which could be enviromental disaster.
Special tax relief for one of the richest man in the world.
Up to now he did nothing about Harbour cleaning and now he wants to look Mr. Environment to clean environment.

Hey Bernie, you are fooling no one but yourself, you self-centred idiot.

NAFTA is the newest sh**y excuse. The man, called Bernie Lord, is a sell out to insurance companies and sell out to big business.

You mean to tell us that he spend over million dollars for a study which had no purpose. IT IS AN ADMISSION TO LYING ADN DECEIVING PUBLIC. That is a waste of tax dollars which Lord government should get the prize for. It is so good at wasting our money. Get lost Bernie, we do not want you.

Anonymous said...

Go look at ALL government studies, they are pretty much all a waste of money. Public input costs nothing and internet research is practically free. Go to the legislative library in Fredericton or Ottawa and count the Royal Commissions, then count how many of the recommendations are used by government. Natural resources, native affairs, fisheries, they ALL gather dust. They are designed to make it LOOK like they are looking after 'our' interests. Far from it.

Anonymous said...

Lord as usual lied. He lied that he was going to look into public insurance. Only problem is this lie alone cost us over $1 million. Lord and the cronies routinely justify their blunders and lies by saying others did it too. That is no excuse. If Lord and his supporters now say that they had no intention of adopting public insurance because of NAFTA then they are admitting lies and deception.

Good post up above, it's nice to see somebody else do some research and I encourage everybody to check out that site.

What the argument doesn't mention, is that while Canada would be on the hook for payments, Canada is also the 'enforcer' of NAFTA on the provinces. So while it would have to pay, it could simply deduct the amount from Canada Health and Social transfers or any other investment in the province.

The threat is quite enough for a province like New Brunswick, go back and read the papers from last spring, public insurance was dropped right after the insurance company CEO's came to the province.

This is certainly no defense of Lord, however, the real badasses here are the feds, NAFTA, and the insurance industry. Lord COULD have taken the risk and tried to bring in public insurance, what would occur is that investment in the province would evaporate, the province would be labelled 'bad for business', etc. Insurance companies from Ontario have tons of investment in the province, and they would pack up and leave. Of course maybe they wouldn't, but the THREAT is quite enough. Why else would an unpopular Premier not bring in a system supported by most New Brunswickers? Notice how right after public insurance was discounted insurance spokespeople started saying that they 'are thinking of pulling out of the province altogether' because it wasn't profitable enough, like we're supposed to be LUCKY that they are here gouging us.

Like I said, email the liberal party with that above link and ask them how they are going to take that risk. They SAY they will, but what are the consequences if they do? My assumption is that they will pull a McGuinty and once elected will say "Oh, we didn't know the consequences would be so bad, now we don't think it's such a good idea". Or else they'll say "well, let's give the industry a chance and we'll study it some more. In other words, they'll lie.

I'd be more than happy to be wrong, but I encourage you to email the liberals and ask them, that way they CAN"T say "we didn't know". Otherwise, you get rid of one liar for another. While I'm no fan of Lord, I'm not fan of ANY lying politician.

NAFTA is the newest excuse and general public will not buy it. Business pulling out is scare tactics. Bernard Lord just did not have guts to stand up to the insurance companies. Simple as that.He also was thinking to become Prime Minister and did not want to lose the support of big business nationally. He still thinks he can be Prime Minister. Those are the real reasons and rest is baloney.

Anonymous said...

Lord repeatedly said that Public insurance was going to be more expensive and for that reason he was dropping it, and not for any NAFTA. As if U.S. is respecting NAFTA. No one will buy this excuse. Men and women on the street are not going to buy it. It is going to hurt Bernie in the next election no matter what. I hope he loses in Saint John because this man has been a disaster for this province.

Anonymous said...

NAFTA is not an 'excuse' it is a reality. It isn't the 'newest' excuse, in fact I've never seen it even mentioned in the media apart from the link that was given above (which is just online media).

Saying it's NAFTA is the same thing as saying that it's 'big business'. However, I distrust people who claim to know the motivations of people they've never met. We KNOW that public insurance is not 'more expensive', simply looking at the provinces which have it proves that. Would you rather have your insurance money at least go to the province to cover insurance as well as provide some jobs, or go to southern ontario insurance companies, like they do now.

I find it surprising that people go on about what a liar Lord is and then say that there's no public insurance because it's too expensive "because Lord says so".

As for the americans, they have 100 times the wealth of Canada, so we know they can do what they want with NAFTA. Our country relies on trade so heavily that, well, you've SEEN the result, our politicians do nothing. New Brunswick is one of the poorest provinces in a country dependent on american trade, for NB to say "we're taking on the insurance companies, NAFTA, and the Federal government so we can have public insurance" is so crazy I can't even picture it. So again, ask Graham HOW he plans on getting investment, keeping investment, AND doing the above.

This isn't about Lord, we KNOW what he did, this is about making sure that New Brunswickers actually vote in an alternative. If the only politics you practise is writing on blogs, don't be surprised if government ignores you-so write to liberal MLA's and Graham. Of course, in case you actually think you are living in a democracy, you actually get them, you'll get their secretaries-or you'll get no response.

Sorry, that's you WONT" get them. I know that from experience.

This newest excuse NAFTA doe not cut it. Lord has taken on Federal government. There is $200 plus sitting for childcare and gas tax rebate and his f****ng little political games are getting in the way. Now he cannot take on the feds on insurance?? That is a news. In in case of insurance he would have made name for himself but he does not have the brains to understand that.

Now his new candidate in Saint John is not much different. We need only so many self-centred MLAs in Fredericton.

Anonymous said...

Nobody said that Lord hasn't tangled with the feds, if it were JUST the feds, then that would be different. I never said NAFTA was the ONLY reason there are no more publicly held insurance programs, I said that the deal precludes them.

Canada hasn't had a new public program in over forty years, it's hard enough without NAFTA to get such things going, NAFTA just makes it pretty much impossible, unless you are the most powerful nation on earth and can ignore it whenever you want.

The point is, when have you heard Lord even mention NAFTA or the insurance industry? Never. As the above states, Lord follows the corporate line and says 'public auto insurance is too expensive'. We aren't supposed to talk about how NAFTA ties our governments hands, globalization is supposed to be a great and wonderful thing.

So it isn't a 'newest excuse', it isn't an excuse and it isn't new. If Lord were honest, he'd simply have said "Look, the insurance companies from Ontario are going to pull out ALL of their investments and sack our credit rating and tie us up in court for the next two decades, and the feds are going to withhold our equalization payments and we'll be screwed". Don't think that's the case? Go research the owners of most of the industries and buildings in the province, heck, even Forest Hill Towers is owned by Calgarians and British Columbians.

We aren't supposed to talk about that. We're supposed to think that the ONLY bad guy is Lord and all we have to do is get rid of him and all will be right with the world. Far from it, the Liberals have already started lying years before an election.

I agree with you that Bernard Lord is dishonest to the teeth. Hey Danny Williams stood up to feds and got his province billion plus deal so did Mr. Ham. If Bernard Lord would have stood his grounds he would have earned some respect. We are talking in comparative terms here. Lord is the worst we ever had and will ever have. Even many members of his own party believe that, forget about Liberals. They were ready to do him in Frredericton when annual general meeting was held there. Meeting was too controlled otherwise he would have gotten the vote of no confidence. He is a toast one way or the other.

Anonymous said...

Hey if Ed gets in he won't be able to do noting he will be in Opposition. Do people not get this?? He will not be able to do noting for at least 2 years if he gets voted in. Let's give her a chance to see what she will do not put someone in oppostion that will just sit there and not work with government.

Anonymous said...

Yes that will strengthened Lord's hands so that he can screw us even more. Oh please! NBers cannot take this punishment anymore.

We need to keep this moron on his toes if we wish to survive as a province.

4:39 I must disagree with your comment.
If Dr.Doherty and the Liberal Party get this seat Mr.Lord will then only hold (ONE) seat majority, next he must then pick the speaker of the house which in turn becomes nutraul.

Ta Da!! Minority Government and now with Mr.Hutchen's mishap Mr.Lord could definitly have his neck below the waterline.

One slip and all of a sudden reality hits him right between the eyes, Can you say snap election?

All at once the hot air in his head deflates and his errigance of nothing happens without my say goes along the way.

So in light of this I would like to remind the Voters of Saint John Harbour who have been silenced for far too long that we alone now hold the power of change in this Province and in this riding.

No Liberal or Conservative has held this seat for 14 Years and I believe the people of Saint John Harbour understand this is a Bi-Election which is good for only 18 months at most and can serve as a trial basis toward a full Provincial Election.
Thus any changes can take place again at that time.

Lastly I am a member of Saint John Harbour and as such, it feels good to have a very important role in these changes.

I hope on Election Day we can work as a solid group for change in this area and we DO-NOT waste our votes on the NDP candidate for this very important Bi-Election so it's not a vote to Hooten who in all reality will just be another person on bernard's(Here's a folder but I'll tie your hands policy).

We can then assess what we have gotten for the next 18 Months,If we do not find it to our satisfaction we can then show our feelings toward the proper Candidate in a Provincial Election in 18 months.

Anonymous said...

Yes we get it; they don't want any seats given up because if someone is sick or unfortunately something else happen they won't have the power. We don't want to wait two years we need someone else keeping an eye on them even if it would be difficult; it would be better then another PC. Deflate Premier's ego now because he needs to feel the fear that the taxpayers are feeling and give him a little taste of what is to come. Wake up and vote let them know your are not happy because they think we are so pleased with them. They don't care or listen. They've told but they have been tone deaf for a long time. Give Hooton the Booton, she doesnot listen to the people or will she ever care for the average citizen.

Anonymous said...

Hooten has already forgotten Saint John as Deputy Mayor she used up her chance; Lord had two chances and just screwed us more and working on the third chance- some citizens love getting their a## kicked. Get them out or kick the wind out of Premier Lord's sail.

Michelle is a real air head and will do what Lord wants and will not question anything like the 25 year deal with the millionaires, take from the poor and keep giving to the wealthy. Only in Canada can you take and take, no gun or violence, just kill them slowly or should I rephrase take their money, dignity, pride; leave them hopeless, broke and passive. We don't care if they vote we will do what we want. Give Hooten the Booten!
