SHOULD MICHELLE HOOTON RESIGN HER SEAT????

A couple of days ago, I asked the question but no one gave me an answer.

hooton2

Well? Now I know the answer.

Michelle Hooten never resign her seat from Council to run as an MLA!

Should this be allowed?

Should she be allowed to grandstand in the Council chambers while she runs for Provincial office?

We know that Norm MacFarlane was a former Minister of the Lord Government but this is not fair for the other candidates.

norm

I didn’t know this was allowed in Canada?

I respect an individual who resigns their post to run for public office but in this case?

She has absolutely nothing to lose!!!

What do you think?

Am I wrong on this issue?

I might add that they even stop Ivan Court from speaking last night in the chambers. Orders from the Irvings? You tell moi???...lol

She should resign from politics. By associating herself with Bernie and with his hideous political games she has done herself in. If she had any credibility it is gone. She may consider to stick with her business. She may do well there.

By law and under the Municipalities Act she does not have to resign. I have not known any municipal politician who, when running for a provincial or federal seat, has given up their seat on Council. If you have a reason why she should why not say so - don't make it seem like she is doing something that no one else has ever done.

Always justifying by saying someone else has done it. Everytime a blunder and screw-up of Lord government is pointed out we are told it was done before under previous government. Or it is being done in China or Nigeria. Or we should be happy because people are poorer there. Is that best Lord government can do? What a poppycock?

I just been told that the Deputy Mayor of Dieppe has to resign his seat to run for the Mayor job. So why not do the same act in here????

Those are two different acts charles one for municipalities and one for legislature that is why

So true. There are also two different standards by Lord Government. One for rich one for poor. That is the way it goes. There is always a loophole to screw the poor.

I THOUGHT THE "LAW" WAS YOU MUST ASKE FOR A LEAVE OF ABSENCE WHEN RUNNING FOR ANOTHER POST.....IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THIS WAY FOR OTHERS WHEN THE SOUGHT OUT OTHER GOVERNMENT POSTS...THEN AFTER WINNING THEY RESIGN OR LOOSING THEY COME BACK TO THEIR POSITIONS...SOMEONE SHOULD CHALLENGE THIS WITH ELECTIONS NB OFFICE, AND ALSO A COMPLAINT SHOULD BE FILED WITH THE OMBUDSMAN OVER THIS AND ALSO FOR IVAN COURT, AS HIS CONTITUTIONAL RIGHTS AS A CITIZEN OF THIS PROVINCE AND ALSO AS AN ELECTED OFFICIAL TO VOICE HIS CONCERNS FOR THE CONSTITUENTS OF THIS MUNICIPALITY HAVE BEEN VIOLATED AT COUNCIL...IT IS TIME SOMEONE IN THIS CITY TOOK THE BULL BY THE HORNS AND GOT SOME STRAIGHT ANSWERS AND KICK "WHOOTIN TOOTEN TO THE CURB......

Unless the laws change I don't see any reason for her to resign. What's fair for one person is fair for another. Besides, the only ones calling for her resignation are the people who don't like her so obviously they have an agenda against her. If she loses the MLA bid and runs for council again, the voters can decide if they want to keep her.

She must resign.

jwmcq Cllr. Ivan Court does not have blond hair and good looking legs. That is why he is not Lord's favourite and hence not MacFarlane's favourite. The whole thing is disgusting that a person has next to no political experience is being touted to become next minister of environment.

JWMCQ - I like your leave of absence idea. There's no law but that would be the right thing for anyone running for any other level of government to do. For example when a media personality runs for politics, they take a leave of absence from their on-air or writing job. I really don't see a need for Hooton to resign unless of course she wins. But since the same people here calling for her to resign also want her to lose, I suspect they just don't like her. Sounds like it's becoming a personal vendetta for some given the sexist comments throw about.

You are not only Conservative but also sound like a person who is on their payroll. Otherwise you will not be devoting so much time defending these useless clowns.

By that argument, you're a Liberal plant and really I doubt that's true. Sorry to burst your bubble but I have no political affiliation at all and I really don't want one. I'm just an independent thinker who trys to look at things from several different angles to form my opinion which you can then choose to agree with or not. After lookinga th the opinions here it appears that the comments would be much different if Hooton had chosen to run for the Liberals. Maybe I'm wrong. Perhaps, you and the other anonymous posters just don't like her period. Although most of the attacks seem to be aimed at her for her affiliation with the Tories. I don't know her and I don't live in the riding so I don't know if she's good or bad for the riding. That's up to the voters to decide.

She ought to resign. She has already let Saint John know she doesn't want to be Deputy Mayor by running for another job.

"..independent thinker" Spinks you are the most biased thinker if one can call you a thinker. Always defending Lord and even Harper and other right-wingers. You are possessed by the ghost called far-right.

No need to get nasty and personal my friend.

She should take a leave of absence at least. She was a soap box last night because they were there with cameras and she performed for selfish reasons and does not care for the people. We want to be able to vote the Byelection and give her the Booten.

jwmcq,Right on. Bernard Lord has screwed the whole provine and not only City of Saint John. A vote for Hooton will be vote to perpetuate Lord's incompetent government. We must not allow that to happen.

Several good points; so it is up to the people and vote to give Hooton the Booton and after this Deputy Mayor's position has run the course; she'll be lucky to get any respect from the people of Saint John. We just had a another grand standing at Council Monday; she had her video crew their to give their spin of what Saint John wants. After her speech, Councillor Court wanted to speak but the Mayor interrupted, did what he always does when he wants to stop the councillors from exprssing their opinion. This has not been an open council and now they want to change how the taxpayers vote in the city. Sorry but I see it as controlling who we can vote for. I believe in voting for the best person but they want to tell who's best and we will have limited or no say. Boot Hooten out soon, Lord later.
