Picture 011, originally uploaded by Oldmaison.

I noticed this worker from CBC filming the Tim's Horton on King street this afternoon.

I whisper- Hey??? SNAP GOT HIM!!!!!
Picture 022
Even a reporter is not safe in the Capital.

He was doing a story on the odds of winning at Tim's!

While in Saint John, I stayed over Tim Smith place.

tim the hit man

He drinks a lot of coffee and he told me that he never won any prizes since the contest came out!

Could it be that the odds off winning are way down?

What do you think?

The first year the 'roll up the rim to win' contest came out, almost one in three cups had a prize of some sort. Back then the company was still CANADIAN. Now, of course its not, americans call the shots and the odds of winning keep going down. Why? Well, first, caffeine is almost as addictive as nicotine. If you are a regular coffee drinker, just try quitting for a week, just for fun. It's not as bad as quitting cigarettes, but it ain't easy. Most coffee drinkers can't go a single day without getting headaches.

So now that canadians are all coffee junkies (when do we make them with their brown teeth and horrible coffee breathe stand outside:) there is simply no need to award as many prizes. It's amazing that people can act in such a way in society and be surprised when kids don't listen as they are told not to 'do drugs'. Clearly we just mean, 'don't use naturally occuring drugs that don't make a profit for somebody'.

Still amazed at the way people act to get a coffee; block the street for a block to buy a cup of caffeine. Idle their vehicle for 5 to ten minutes whatever it takes to get their fix.

I personnally don't believe it is good for your health and I question what is in the Tim's coffee.

A cup of any coffee should be enough to fix a craving.

I notice they try to spin why a coffee is good; don't believe and won't buy or drink any coffee or tea. Someone is certainly making billions at your expense in more ways than one. Withdrawals may cause some concerns but look to the bigger picture.

Boy, some people just refuse to let facts get in the way of a good conspiracy theory!

The odds of winning have indeed increased, but not because there are fewer prizes. There are a lot MORE prizes since the contest started, but also, something like ten times as many cups.

The contest is very popular. I know myself, I buy Tim's once or twice a week, maybe. Dring the contest, though, sometimes it's every day!

Nobody actually said there were fewer prizes, they said the ODDS are down. Before it was one in three, now it's not one in three but one in ten (following the above logic). We have no way of knowing how many cups are actually sold, or how many prizes. If they are handing out twice as many prizes, and raking in ten times as much business, clearly that is skewered. Unless, of course, as said, they simply don't NEED to give out as many prizes because people WILL buy more coffee.

As for the above, coffee DOES have anti-oxidant properties, just as tea does, which are proven cancer fighters. Coffee is just a bean that is roasted and ground, beans are one of the healthiest foods around.

However, when you add 'double-double' then you no longer are getting those anti-oxidants in large numbers, since sugar and cream are now taking up a quarter of your cup.

Caffeine has been proven to be addictive, what is surprising is that even people who have only one cup a day seem to show the same addictive properties. However, the same thing occurs from soda pop, where I believe caffeine is added during the manufacture.

It could simply be psychological, perhaps canadians are so ingrained in their rituals that missing the ritual 'makes them grumpy and fidgety'.

However, we can note the following studies:
1. Men who drink four cups or more are twice as likely as non drinkers to get bladder cancer. That may or may not correlate in smaller amounts. The industrial danger of coffee is now greater than that of asbestos or lubricating oil.

2. Maritimers are per capita the largest coffee drinkers. Coffee drinking is actually DECREASING in Canada, but out west the rates are far less (which makes the above statement about ten times more coffee being sold quite suspicious).

3. Coffee is found to be beneficial to some and detrimental to others depending on the presence of a gene that metabolizes it.

4. oops, gotta to

Coffee is not healthy for you but if it makes you feel better believe it.

Just like everything else they add more chemicals to it; so there goes the goodness. Why are more people addicted to their coffee; have it analysed and you won't drink it again.

Someone will get rich on us when we buy, get sick on it and after we die.

Works for everyone; have a large coffee.
