NEW BRUNSWICK FAMILY SERVICES DENIES PARENTHOOD TO MENTALLY CHALLENGE COUPLE!!!

In the past, I heard this sort of discrimination by New Brunswick Family Services happened, but this time around I believe they went WAY overboard!!!!

This couple approached me this morning with their unfortunate situation.

I first met the guy two years ago.

Last spring he told me his girlfriend was pregnant.

He’s on social assistance so he phoned Family Services asking for housing.

They told the guy - Lets wait till the child is born and we’ll discuss the issue of housing.

I knew at that moment that something wasn’t right.

Every now and then I would come across this guy. I would always asked if everything was ok?

This summer the couple got married while waiting for their first born.

I was told that the baby was born three months prematurely and New Brunswick Family Services quickly took the baby away from the couple.

They told the couple that they were a MENTALLY CHALLENGED couple so therefore couldn’t take care of the baby.

Now, I’ve got a problem with this Discriminatory Act by the Government.

Shouldn’t New Brunswick Family Services have given the couple the benefit of the doubt?

I was told the first time mom to-be read many books to educate herself on how to be a good mother to her child.

So? What’s your take on this one???

I have mixed feelings on this one, Charles. Surely custody would not have been taken away if they thought this couple could care for the child--and premature at that.

Let's not forget that the child's care has to be the MOST important consideration.

If mother is mentally challenged, how did she read "many books?"

I have known this man for a long time, and I was introduced to his wife a while back. You would think that the government of this Province would have better things to do with the taxpayers hard earned dollar. I am so sick and tired of what is being done in the name of the New Brunswick people and the trouble is that these idiots are getting away with it because he taxpayer or, voter only speaks up during voting season and then Barks and complains the rest of the time. These people are trying to educate themselves so they can raise the child right. and so what if they don't have a college degree or a lot of money, they have a lot of love and they are willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that their child has a decent life, so why don't you government jokers get off of your tails and help them you help the drugies with needle exchange programs which is the biggest waste of the taxpayer's money and you just cannot wait to destroy and tear apart a family. Shame shame on all of you. you filthy excuse for human beings.

While they might have been good parents the benefit of the doubt would be tested at the child's expense.

You should get out a bit, maybe even stay out, considering the people make the province.
haha Remember the premier who thought he made the province?

1:28 am -- Are you saying that someone who is mentally challenged cannot read a book??? That's quite an ignorant comment.

I know many people who are "mentally challenged" who live a "normal" life, a person can take care of themselves, and others, so if this couple is continiously fighting to get their child back and get sustainable homing then they must be able to have a family together! Screw anyone who says someone "mentally challenged" can't take care of a child.

.....just as it is with any parent raising a child 8:12.

What is the actual mental disability for each of the parents? You can't just slap a label of "mentally challenged" onto them and expect that to explain everything. There are dozens of different conditions with varying degrees of disability.
