Charles,

In June 2006, it was reported that council member Bill Farren (his idea) had told a certain council member that the Harbour Bridge will be painted red, white & blue. These are irving colours. It have been observed that they have already painted sections of it blue. I wonder if this is part reason why tolls are going up, to pay for the paint? I think our money can be spent in needier places if so.

If irving needs to have the bridge painted with his colours than irving should pay for it himself.

just my opinion.

How about some follow ups. This wouldn't be surprising, but is definitely something to followup. How about a closer picture of the bridge. If part of it is blue then that's certainly a good indication, I've never even heard of painting that kind of bridge before. Get us some closeups, where's Tim?

This is the kind of moronic conspiracy theory lunacy that would stay in the back corner of Legion halls if it wasn't for the tone set by this blog.

Too bad people don't stay on point and that is all bridges in the province all need repairs and new bridges are also built in NB. We all pay taxes for repairing and building so no need to discriminate against people of west Saint John and make them pay for 38 years for taxes and tolls. Get the tolls off and stop the make work projects. Hire people to repair the bridge and get rid of toll collectors and their million dollar machines.

This is crazy and unfair. The price of gas getting back and forth is enough now $1.50 a day or more for tolls is wrong!

We do not feel respected; Quispamsis and Rothesay get more respect using our streets and services.

Irving did not pay for the Bridge ; known for grants tax concessions and subsidizies and then spends our money. Water breaks , free land, free pulp and yes they do good things but it comes with a price tag. Politicians do what they want.

Notice that many bridges need repairs in our province they won't set up tolls so stop using repairs as excuse to tax us 50 cents. Take the tolls down and save on paying toll collectors and get a refund on the high tech equipment.

Did not expect anything from councillors last night. They can give Billionaires 25 year tax breaks but for the people of Saint John the harbour bridge has been a make work project and the Port Authority won't give up this gig.

All levels of government treat us different and even after 38 years of paying tolls they still don't understand that many bridges are built and maintained and we pay for them too. Monctons Tolls came down and we subsidize that mistake too. They just don't care. They can't be that thick or maybe I'm wrong. Zed did not do enough early on and frankly I wonder who cares. Disappointed how we continually get treated by all levels of government. This is just one more thing on a very big pile of crap.

Now Kier is no surprise he thinks we been getting a bargain for power and we should be paying the same as any other province. We are paying for the Oil Orimulsion Deal, the Coleson Cole over haul or whatever you may call it and yes don't forget the big high end wages for the people who have screwed up these jobs from top to bottom. Creating jobs for an office in Saint John; oh what a joke we are. The money we lost does not just appear, we have to pay for all these srew ups.

The fact that municipally, provincially we are taxed higher and our wages are not that greatst's gouge more out of them. After all we are the happiest simpletons in the province of NB.

Frankly people of our province have little back bone and conviction to stand up for our everyday rights. Disappointing because no matter how much eduacation we get we are so concerned about appearances we lose our morals and give our rights way like garbage.

Oh well I got that off my chest and now I will go to work like everyone else and work and after work try to finish my christmas shopping before they cut that out too. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate and if you don't great, you will save money. We gave up prayers in school what next.
