A riveting documentary (that took 4 years to make), The Drugging of Our
Children (1 hr- 43 minutes) focuses on the rampant prescribing of
mind-altering drugs for children and the harm they sometimes produce.

The video begins with Corey Baadsgaard, who in April 2001, took a gun to
school and held the class hostage while he was hallucinating under the
influence of the antidepressant, Paxil, the GlaxoSmithKline drug that has
been the subject of five BBC Panorama investigative reports and a lawsuit
charging fraud by New York State Attorney General.

Children are being prescribed these drugs mostly on the basis of exhibiting
6 of 9 traits such as fidgeting in class and not paying attention to the
teacher. In the U.S. it is estimated that between 6 and 7 million children
are prescribed a variety of toxic psychotropic drugs -- that cause some
children to hallucinate. Some children are committing violent crimes while
in a drug induced manic or psychotic state. Others are attempting suicide.

The video trailer states:
"In the absence of any objective medical tests to determine who has ADD or
ADHD, doctors rely in part on standardized assessments and the ... all
impressions of teachers and guardians while they leave little
room for other causes or aggravating factors, such as diet, or environment.
Hence, diagnosing a child or adolescent with ADD or ADHD is often the
outcome, although no organic basis for either disease has yet to be
clinically proven. Psychiatrists may then prescribe psychotropic drugs for
the children without first making it clear to parents that these
medications can have severe side-effects including insomnia, loss of
appetite, headaches, psychotic symptoms and even potentially fatal adverse
reactions, such as cardiac arrhythmia. And yet, despite these dangers,
many school systems actually work with government agencies to force
parents to drug their children, threatening those who refuse with the
prospect of having their children taken from the home unless they
cooperate."

Often it is creative, bright children who are being penalized by schools for
failing to follow the norm, for deviating from an expected behavior groove.
Children's energy is dissipated with drugs -- and children are being
exploited as a captive population. There is a surge for power, control,
and
money -- children's mental health and welfare are being sacrificed by
doctors and schools both are rewarded financially for doing their part in
pushing children to become lifelong drug users.

The video features a broad spectrum of credible participants among them:
psychiatrist Loren Mosher, MD (now deceased) who noted that the
belief-system in psychiatry is no longer based on evidence, but rather "it's
in the realm of religion." Dr. David Cohen who notes that while it is
claimed ADHD is genetic, it didn't exist in previous generations when
children had far more social interaction than they do today when they are
the object of
observation and critical review and have very little time to play with other
children in an uncontrolled environment. Child psychiatrist, Herbert
Needleman, MD, whose landmark research is cited. Dr. Needleman found that
lead affected children's behavior causing them to be disorganized,
impulsive, distractible, restless and caused learning problems -- all
symptoms of ADHD.

Most riveting are the children and parents who describe the coercive
measures -- including threat of loss of custody for refusal to drug their
children. Some were imprisoned: children for bringing a gun to school while
hallucinating under the influence of the drugs; and parents imprisoned for
attempting to kidnap their children.

The video includes footage from the Columbine shooting spree, noting that
most school shootings were committed by children under the influence of
psychotropic drugs. The public is not aware of the drugs' explosive
potential consequences. Michael Moore calls for a full investigation into
what prescribed pharmaceuticals Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were on when
they went on a shooting rampage. It is known that Harris was prescribed
the antidepressant, Luvox, which was found at autopsy. Moore asks: what
caused two very smart, previously non-violent "decent kids" to become
killers? He suggests parents would be shocked to learn that the drugs
prescribed for their children can trigger such violent behavior.

Parents and several professionals note that guns were even more accessible
in earlier decades -- so, it's not the guns that are to blame for the
violence -- it's the drugs.

Noting the differences in how we treat our children today compared to the
1940s, 1950s, 1960s, several participants ask why are children being
treated so differently now? why are they being drugged?

Footage from a 1998 National Institutes of Health expert consensus panel
shows the "expert" ADHD promoters unable to substantiate a biological
basis for ADHD with evidence. As a result, the panel was unable to reach
a consensus. The panel issued a statement concluding that there was no
proven biological evidence for the ADHD diagnosis and no agreement about
the use of stimulants. That "consensus" statement has never been revised
and the ADHD "diagnosis" remains a matter of controversy.

In the video, Michael Moore notes that children are a captive population -- a
convenient market for pharma. And there are numerous stakeholders who have
an interest in drugging children -- including overwhelmed parents and
teachers who find drugs help control children's behavior. Pharmaceutical
companies and advertisers are profit driven; and doctors whose
faith-based, dogmatic belief in the usefulness of the drugs is reinforced
by pharmaceutical largesse.

Moore accuses Eli Lilly with a 15 year cover-up of its own internal
investigation showing that those prescribed Prozac were 12 times more
likely to commit suicide than compared to other antidepressants. Moore
calls this a "criminal act" and asks: "I want to know why these criminals
are still walking the streets?"
