This is the first few days of the protest. Enjoy-
Before I left with David? I told my girl Pat that I
won’t be long because from my past experience from
last summer?
The Government will move in and once again
do their utmost to remove me from the ground.
I told her that I’l be back in two weeks.
Once David left me after a good handshake, I pitch my little tent and waited for someone to confront me.
I remember one comment from last year.
Someone approached me and said - I live in this are for 20 years and I never seen a tent that was permitted on the lawn of the Legislature for so long.
That was for 12 days so therefore this time around?
It won’t be long before I return to Saint John.
After one hour, my ADHD brains started to act up again.
I had to do something and I was getting a little embarrasses from people stopping on the sidewalk trying to figure out what I was doing?
I decided to go in the Legislature to use the computer
at the Library.
I notice a commissionaire with a bald head at the front desk.
His name was Doug and he was very polite. I had to sign the book and work my way at the Library.
No one approached me of the reason that I was set up and I found it strange.
That evening I chatted with two females cleaners that I met during the last protest.
Their names are Tammy and Ethel.
They cleaned the buildings on the premises and they
kept me company during the next few months.
They always looked forwards to hear what stories did I have
to say every evening.
Something always happens at the Legislature.
They have been working there for around 20 years and they do good work.
My first evening at the Legislature was a quiet one.
I leaned against a parking meter and stared at my tent with the
Legislature in the background.
Sure looks nice in the evening. The big huge White Dome that you can see from miles away.
It’s sacred ground for many and there’s not too much trouble on the grounds of the Legislature.
Something happen while I was enjoying a nice smoke
under the night skies.
I approached Tammy in front of the Legislature and said- I might a French! I might be a horny bastard but I’m
not that horny!
She looked at me and said in a stern manner - What do you mean by that line?
I told her that a gay person stopped his vehicle beside me and stared at me.
He passed by me on three different occasions and stared at me.
I noticed many other males in the area.
I appreciate the complement but I draw the line when it comes for a person of the same sex who’s approaching me.
She laughed and told me this was known to be the gay zone!
Gay people hang around all evening long in the green zone.
These people drive their vehicles around the blocks all
evening long looking for someone to pick up for their
sexual pleasure.
After learning this? I was very careful and while I slept in the tent?
You could hear the noise from their wheels driving by all night long!
The old joke was - Once I go in my tent? I go in bottom first!
Those people must spend at least 30 bucks a night on
Gas?
Round and round they go!
One guy told me that he was picked up by a gay and once at his place? He stole all his money! What could the gay guy do? Nothing really! C’est la vie!
I slept good during my first evening in my tent.
I woke up in the morning and still no one around.
Not even the Sergeant At Arms - Dan Bussieres?
I was surprise because it was so quiet.
Minutes after I got up? A Quebecer approached me and said- I shouldn’t be allowed to camp on the ground of the Legislature.
I didn’t really wish to debate with the ignorant guy so I
just ignored him!
I decided to go and check my emails on the net but this time it would be a total different story!
I noticed a different guy at the front desk of the Legislature.
His name was Andre Ouellette and in a very
broken English he told me that I wasn’t allowed in
the Legislature because I was a protester!
I asked the guy where he was from?
He told me - Quebec!
I replied- My God? Here we go again with the Quebecers!
Andre was a little nervous but little did anyone knew that we will know each other very good during the next few months.
In a way, I’m glad that I wasn’t allowed in the Legislature because I would always go inside and outside.
I remember the last time. I was inside the legislature around 15 times a day!
Better that I stay away I guess?
On the right side of the Legislature is the Building that the Liberals politicians are stationed.
The PC’s are in the building on the left side of the house.
I would see more Liberals during my protest and we all know that when a party is in opposition?
They can promise the world. Once in power?
It’s a total different ballgame but a worker did
tell me this line - A liberal is a nice person in opposition
and while in power?
They’re still nice people. A PC is ignorant in opposition and more ignorant in power.
Little would I know that those words would make a lot
of sense during the next few months.
During my first day, I never seen any people from the media but one brave soul did approached me for a story.
His name is Andrew Holland. I’ve known Andrew for 5 years.
Andrew is the host of Voice of the Province and I might add
that I phoned almost on a weekly basic with my straight forward views on different issues.
We sort of became friends and he did a good little story on my protest.
You see? It’s so important to have the media
to cover a protest because it’s the only way to get
the message out!
Of course, lets not forget that I wrote around 500 letters to the editor during the last 10 years.
Yes, this is 500 letters printed but lately, I haven’t had to much luck in printing my letters.
Someone is denying my rights to speak out and I
don’t know you but I have my own little column in the River
Valley News.
This is a small paper which is printed in Grand Bay!
The paper is owned by Dianne Bormke .
I might add that she allows me to write on any issues
that I wish to debate about. The media must believe
that I am just a fool in a tent but that’s ok
because I have the internet to send my updates out to the
public.
Internet? My God? Where can I check my emails?
I’m not allowed in the Legislature.
I began to search the area for the internet.
Around 5 blocks away was the Library but I can only use it for one hour a day!
I noticed that they don’t do the same thing such as
the library in Saint John.
In Saint John? A person can book ahead but in the Capital there’s people lined up for the computers and of course we know that people with ADD/ADHD don’t t enjoy line up!
We’re too hyper.
I always went at the Library every morning at 10:00am!
First come first serve! But the rest of the day was
pretty boring because I noticed that there wasn’t as
many tourists as last year.
I guess that Mad Cow and scars played a huge role stopping our friends from the South to visit us.
While sitting on my beach chair, I noticed a man in his 60s walking with a cane towards my tent.
He looked very serious and stared at me like I was some kind of a nut!
I asked the old citizen - Where are you from?
He answered - Finland!
Any problem with Ritalin in Finland - I asked?
He shook his head and said - Only in America!!!!
And walked away from the tent.
That statement would stay in my mind for the
next few months because I’ll find out that certain
part of the world don’t know what Ritalin is and
trust me!
That’s good that they don’t know!
I know that discipline is harsher in that part of the world but
still drugging kids isn’t the answer.
