A Supreme Court of Canada ruling could change the way police forces around the country conduct their investigations.
On Thursday, the court ruled 6-3 that police officers and forces can be sued for negligence.
Writing for the majority position, Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin stated that "police are not immune from liability under the law of negligence ... Police officers owe a duty of care to suspects."
The ruling went on to state that investigation standards must be measured against how a "reasonable officer" would act under similar circumstances.
"Police officers may be accountable for harm resulting to a suspect if they fail to meet this standard," according to the ruling.

I dont think this is going to stop Police and Goverment from breaking the law! They need to be persecuted in the same manner as what they do to others only then will they stop these Criminal Actions against Canadians!
With the rash of Police Beatings in The US this same mentality of us v them has been brainwashed into the police in Canada as well and it will only get worse until we demand change!
Somethings very wrong when they are caught red handed and perjure themselves under oath and are caught yet they are not prosecuted, but I guess the corruption goes right to the very top and it shows how thoroughly rotten our system of goverment is and if police dont have to follow the law then whats left is nothing more than a fight for survival?!
