Ritalin Death

Parents of Mathew were told if they do not get prescription of Ritalin they stand to lose their child to Social Services. Intimidating parents. Now in an earlier comment argument was used that stop providing “misinformation” on VLTs or you are “endangering” someone’s life. Do you see any similarity in the argument in two cases? Just wondering.

In an earlier post someone commented that people are stupid that they do not shop around for their insurance. In other words people should put their jobs and needs of their families on hold and go out shop around for better rates for insurance. So insurance reform mean that do not bother us, the government, it is between you and insurance companies. That seems to be the essence of insurance reform. This someone stated that he/she is civil servant. The individual must have received instructions from Brad Green to say that or the individual is advising Brad Green because he says the same, go shop around. While people are shopping they will be shopping around for politicians too who will put people’s welfare ahead of insurance companies.

Will this civil servant also be telling people to shop around for electricity rates and property taxes because they are becoming unaffordable too? Where would we go for that?

Hi, it's me, the bad guy civil servant. :)

Electricity is provided by a government-owned monopoly, so you can't shop around. You (we) should hold politicians accountable for it. Taxes are set by governments, so ditto. In this province alcohol is sold by government too, so the same thing applies there.

I don't see how these things are comparable to auto insurance rates. The first are set by government, insurance is sold in the free competitive market by private enterprise. The government has a lot of controls on insurance companies, but still, they are private enterprise. Why do people want politicians to control the price of insurance, and not control the cost of gas, or bread, or TVs?

And by the way, I voted Liberal last time, and will again next time. NOT a Brad Green guy! I just honestly don't understand why people (not just you -- thousands and thousands of NBers) want politicians to take over insurance companies.

P.S. I think it's unfair for you to put words in someone's mouth that they never said: I never called ANYONE stupid!

I just said I didn't understand why people who don't like the rates their insurance company offer get angry at politicians, instead of shopping around for better rates. (I understand getting pissed at the company. I did, so I switched.) I am honestly curious about this, and I don't think me asking the question is the same as calling anyone stupid.

the bad guy civil servants wife must work for a insurance company.
The only people supporting how insurance companies do business either work for them or there wife work for them.
I know that If Im looking for a new tv Im going to shop around but there wont be a $1.300 difference between 2 stores for the same tv set.
I agree that people should shop around for a good price for insurance but I have seen companies give you a quote over the phone and when you get your policy the price sudenly skyrockets.
These insurance companies are crying that there loosing money and in reality there making a killing.
They should be regulated.

This poor civil servant must be new at his/her job. Needs lot more training to understand reality of life. Insurance companies are gouging public. Lord almost lost election on that and at the last minute prior to election he promised that he would do something. A big study was done at a great public expense headed by Elizabeth Weir. A major smoke screen and waste of tax money and time of decent people. The REAL answer Lord government has given so far is “GO SHOP AROUND”.
It was sarcasm that if Lord government is going to tell people go shop around for electricity rates and property taxes also but simple(civil) servant did not get it.

You know why electricity rates and property tax went up because of billions lost on boondoggles like Orimulsion and shadow tolls and Lord government is trying to make up for it. We may have to shop around and go somewhere else.

Hi: i knew if i waited long enough the point that was
sitting in the back of my head would show up. and here
it is: according to the prescription data there are
30 per cent more hyperactive kids now than there were
a few years ago.
questions:
what is wrong with the people of new brunswick that
they are breeding more defective children? (chemicals
in air from irving industries, incinerators,
refineries?)
exactly how does anyone define officially what is
hyperactive?
why does this hyperactivity show up only in structured
social environments and not in regular medical
checkups? (medical checkups and such are part of our
tax money, mandated for all students)
perhaps someone might provide some insight into why
this "problem" did not show up when there were
provincial examinations that the students had to write
in order to pass. (perhaps it is time to start an
objective review of teachers. they have lots of
excuses for why they should not be held to a standard
of competence, but after 25 years of being god in the
classroom this is the result)
is it possible to get a doctor or specialist from the
department of education to provide publicly the
criterion by which it is acceptable for a teacher or
administrator to recommend that the student be
drugged?
(sorry, i meant to say that the student should seek
medical assistance in resolving behavioural problems)
the new brunswick medical association has standards
and procedures for everything under the sun. what is
the official description and symptoms of
hyperactivity, and what is the medical association
list of procedures for assessing and alleviating and
curing(?) this condition?
other medical associations: ama, canadian medical
association, british, australian, german, etc?
not that many years ago ontario had a problem in
the school system of children who were faster and
brighter than the standard. there were programs and
processes for those who were considered to be slower
than the average, and a great political fight erupted
about providing for the bright. many of the arguments
i am hearing now sound like the same arguments used
then to support the position that the school board was
not responsible for providing to the bright. they
lost, and now there are many kids benefiting from the
new classes and programs (baccalaureate program is one
of theose programs)

just a few thoughts on a slow friday night, as i sit
on the beach in 27 degree weather in mexico. i have
had a long day travelling around to find the correct
parts to repair my water system in the hotel. the
plumber thinks that i am crazy because i go to this
much trouble to get these things when something can be
rigged up out of what is available. completely forgets
the fact that what was available is the reason why we
have to re-do the system in the first place!!
tomorrow i go to inspect the repairs to my hot water
heater, and we have hired a part-time cleaning lady.
my wife and i are looking forward to going out for
lunch together for the first time since we took over
the hotel.!!!

p.s. get some wonderfully talented university
students to create a map of the province which
includes the geographical distribution of ritalin
prescriptions. a second map with all the "dirty"
(polluting) industry in the province, then a third map
containing both sets of information. it may even be
possible to get a grad student to make a series of
these maps for each year for the last 10 or 15 years.
might provide some interesting information.

What do you think of his views? Lets me know…….

Charles---congrats on over 4,000 hits, to this very interesting site....and,,,,,Could the Irvings please stand up and feed the poor this Easter????? I would like to hear something done about the homeless and the poor....

The Irvings feed the poor people og this Province! They won't even print my column on the issue of the poor in thier paper!!!

Anonymous said...

I think that you meant to put that the Irvings don't feed the poor! Wouldn't that be tax deductable...Couldn't they rent a building or restaurant or use their own facilities to feed the poor? They can't take their money with them to hell!!!

Blogger Charles LeBlanc said...

I have been trying to tell them for years but they will not listen to a peasant like myself!

Hello Blogger,

Thank you for your informative blog, it is good to see that people are still sharing their knowledge and experience.

I am currently working on finding the latest information on child with adhd when I came across your site. My passion is in the area of child with adhd and after finding your blog, I believe we have a real synergy and that my subsrcibers would benefit from your perspective on the topic.

I would very much appreciate it if you would take the time to have a look at my adhdpodcaster blog. If you think that we do have a common goal (which I think we do), then please feel free to post any relevant information to the blog.

Whatever area that ties into adhd would be fine, even if it is with relation to personal development (especially time management), you know how notoriously hard it is to keep track of time especially for us :)

Anyways, really looking forward to your post.

Thank you for the blog, keep up the good work

Warmest regards,
Hoe Bing
