I don't know exactly which ones the Irvings own, but I do know that they have essentially everything int he St. John River Valley, including the French ones like Le Madawaska (which may have been renamed) and the paper in Grand Falls. On this side, they now have Bathurst. We are the only English paper still in independent hands, which means community ownership. The publisher is Terry Raymond, son of long-time publisher Rod Raymond who started with the Tribune as a reporter. The Tribune bought the Dalhousie News in 1994 and shut it down. Earlier, it had taken over the Campbellton Graphic's nespaper operation, although the Graphic continued job printing. The Tribune has a French sister publication, La Voix de Restigouche, and there is another French paper in Campbeellton, L'Aviron, which is owned by Quebecor. Quebecor has some other papers in the Maritimes, but there are other independent ones, including L'Acadie Nouvelle. Hope this helps.
I don't know if they own that paper but I do know they own the telegraph journal and I must say it's getting pretty thin I can't believe how small this paper seems to be getting these days but I suppose when your buying a private interest paper you get what you pay for /A buck full of bull/what ever happened to public input??? and I believe friday&saturday costs more than a dollar for the same garb. But of the one story in this mornings paper I had to pay a dollar to read that bernard lord thinks one promise of striking a deal to keep lepreau will satisfy the citizens of saint john MAN does he got another think comming I hope the liberals shove it to him all week and get their vote of nonconfidence because I believe the rest of the province has allready come to that conclusion.
MAN BERNARD AND IRVINGS BOTH GETTING A GOOD BASHING ON TALK OF THE TOWN AGAIN THIS MORNING THE ABOVE STATEMENT HAS SOME CLOUT TO IT I DON'T THINK POINT LEPRAEU IS GONNA CUT IT WITH THE VOTERS HE BETTER START COMMING UP WITH A MUCH BETTER PLATTER OF GOODIES THAN THAT IF HE HOPES TO HAVE ANY CHANCE AT ALL AND I ALSO AGREE THAT THE PAPER FOR A DOLLAR SHOULD AT LEASAT PRINT SOME REAL NEWS STORIES BUT MOST OF THEM ARE AGAINST THESE TWO INTERESTS SO FOR NOW WE WILL CONTINUE TO RECIEVE WHAT SOME MIGHT CALL A KENTS FLYER FOR A NEWSPAPER.
