KEVIN ALLMAN - THERE SHOULD BE A PLACE FOR PEOPLE LIKE US TO GO????

Yes, the cold weather is here and many will be very careful of the amount of heat they used but they still have roof over their head which brings me up to this story.

A couple of weeks ago, I walked to the Fredericton Soup Kitchen in a pouring rain.

I had a good umbrella but I saw an ugly site.

Inside the doors of the kitchen were 10 people escaping the wet weather.

Have you ever taught for one second what these people do during the day?

These people are the Social outcasts of Society. They have drug or alcohol problems. A few just cannot locate work or have mental problems.

I remember one cold day in December from last year.

While leaving the Soup Kitchen, I noticed a group of guys standing outside.

Picture 034

It was cold and windy.

One of them was this guy name - John.

He had found a place at 114 Brunswick Street and all his friends wish him well while he was leaving to go in his room.

Once there, he would escape the cold winds of winter.

The other guys would have love to join him but no visitors were allowed in the building.

Mind you? Since I have living there? I believe it was a good thing because in the past many would used a place to drink their alcohol and the atmosphere would get out of hand.

After he left, one of them name Kevin Allman asaid - There should be some place for people like us can go????

You see? There’s not too many places a homeless person can go during the cold winter months.

If you’re banned from a Mall? Well? Lets just say that you are out of luck?

In Saint John. There’s a place run by the Salvation Army. You can play pool and have a coffee during the day.

Here in the Capital? There’s no where to go!

Here’s a picture what the area of the Soup Kitchen looks like after the sun goes down!!!

The next time it’s windy and cold or a pouring rain? Asks yourself one question?

I wonder where these people are right now???

Kevin had red hair and freckles. He was a nice guy and didn’t bother anyone.

Kevin died of alcohol poisoning a few months ago.

I might add there is also five other people who died the same way in the Capital in a very short period.

You have a very good day!!!

DON'T FORGET TO VOTE IN THE LATEST POLL!!!!

Good Story Charles, I think that we all as Citizens should ban together and let the politicians both in Ottawa and here in the Province know that it is high time that they work on behalf of all of us and especially for those in our Society and Communities who need a hand up not a hand out. to become more self-reliant and a contributing member of the society. What the Politicians seem to forget is that soon there very well could be a lot more homeless and low income voting citizens, and then they will have to do something if they want to get in for another term.

I believe there should be a place for the less fortunate to go? It's very scary stuff what they go through during the length od the day.

Was listening to the radio yesterday and heard Carolyn McNulty talking about the meals served at the Romero House in Saint John. In one month they serve 5,000 meals. Some could get up to two meals. 15% are children with their families. They cook 12 to 14 turkey a week. They need about 600 turkeys to accomodate all meals and also make sandwiches that are offered when they drive around in the mobile to the homeless on the street.

Some people have to apply to be able to receive food once a month (people who are on social assistance or EI) and then sometimes there can be an unexpected crisis and we don't turn away people.

The government has surplus and now they will waste millions for election that doesnot need to happen right now. Lost of people can't pay for heat and gas and food well the Soup Kitchens will certainly be strained to help feed the people. This day and age this should not happen.

Time they collect taxes from the Billionaires and Millionaires because the average person can't keep up and make ends meet and help everyone else.

It still amazes me how little people care until someone in their life is in these difficult times. This has been a disgrace for far too long and things need to change soon. People desrves at least a place to put their head down with some heat and food. They are not asking for too much. Minimum wage is too low to help their families servive and have some respect at the end of each day. They need a hand up now. This winter and it does get cold. I pray the day will come; these are not lazy people I'm talking about they all come from different walks of life and I am thankful I never had that road to go; family, friends were there when the job was gone and no assistance is there because some don't qualify. This is what living pay cheque to cheque does. car insurance, car payments, house payment or rent and food with power bills and phone; no frills existance.
