SHOULD THERE BE AN AUDIT ON THE BI-ELECTION IN SAINT JOHN HARBOUR?

Especially the amount of money the P.C. Party is spending in the poor riding of Saint John Harbour.

No, this would be a waste of tax dollars, but then again so is the money we waste on Charles so he doesn't have to work.

There is no need to audit the PC Party just because the Liberal Party doesn't have as much money.

Charles, you seem to have lots of time of your plate, why don't you go door to door and see if you can't raise some money for your poor Liberal friends?

The point above is somewhat lost in the rheotric but the writer is correct that an audit would be a waste of taxpayer dollars. Although saving announcements for an election is politically sneaky they were still announcements which were going to be made anyway - new courthouse, Weirs office, etc. Chukcing more tax dollars so that opposition parties can try themselves to gain political points is a waste. Now if someone has a legitimate reason to think there was more money spent than needed to be by all means send it to the A-G. And of course complain to your MLA's that you feel the Gov't tried to buy SJ Harbour if you feel that way but blowing money on an audit because some don't like the way the Government ran a campaign seems pretty wasteful in it's own right.

Yes it would be nice to have a clean sweep from the bottom to the top and why waste auditing and investigating and a have a new system. They can't have access to our money expect for the things that are already needed and what should been done for years. We know that won't happen.

Yes I read the rag paper or the telegraph, articles which are very bias, yes we expect that. A few letters to the editor were allowed to try to make things seem fair; far from that. Oh yes today 18 ads for Hooton. Can't imagine what will be the monetary value when the election is over. Whether given, donated or paid for; it all has to have a monetary value and has to have a price attached to it. Can't wait.

Premier Lord made statements of moving ahead but at the same time he goes back to the Liberal days; people are not going back in time we are living the times. The LNG Deal is now and 25 years from now; the Orimulstion Fiasco is here and next April we will being struggling even more to try to pay for his mistakes; how many years we are not sure. The insurance rates will never get better ( even if they make millions) and energy rates will never improve ( just keep giving management hundreds of thousands of dollars while worker get very little)the rate payers pay for this, the price of gas will be up as soon as Lord and his munkins leave the city.

When the Billionaires complain and don't want to pay their fair share that is fine by Hooton and Lord. But us small, unimportant, uneducated (not true)misinformed, don't know what we are talking about, never happy can never be satisfied, no bodies, people like us don't count. But wait a minute we do count only at the polls so please vote for DR. Doherty and give this man a chance.

Don't split a vote because we want Premier to get our message loud and clear because he has not been listening to us at all.

He says we can afford to pay more and yes we will be paying because his waealthy corporate friends won't have to pay for 25 years on this one deal. They have been receiving several of these deals- yes we will help you Mr. Irving and you can get grants, low interest loans and guess what we won't pressure you; we wait patiently for your money. We will try to pressure the poor because they haven't been fixing their buildings; we know they have no money but we will fine them and take them to court. It appears we have done our job. Still the people don't like us , why?

Just how much money do you have for reserves; nothing like the Irvings do. Give them a taste of our "Rainy Day Fund".

Give Hooton the Booton nowwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

Every political party involved in an election has to provide an adutited financial statement covering all election expences under the elections act. Any party going over the allowed amount automatically has their canidate disqualified. Each party is allowed so much for each registered voter in the riding. I am guessing for the by-election in Saint John Harbour the allowed expendature is around $11,000. Hooten must be very close to the limit. If you look at office rental, telephones, posters, advertising, electricity and gas it doesn't take long to eat up the $11,000. Political adds in the Telegraph cost a lot especially at 10 to 15 adds per issue.

Lord is trying to buy votes by making all these announcement at the last hour. There should be some accountability. Then of course the lavish spending by P.C.s to get Hooton elected. If she wins then it means that those who can buy the votes win and not the most qualified and deserving. That is not democracy.

Let's keep facts straight, I haven't time to do the math but the above is not to be trusted since the elections act says nothing about financing. It is the Political Process Financing Act which spells out finances for elections which are available here:

Lord is going overboard on this election. There is more media coverage on this by-election than there was on general election. Something is unbalanced here. P.C's are putting too much resources into it, including millions of taxpayers' dollars, as if the world will come to an end if they do not win and that shows how Lord's own survival is taking priority on any other priortity for the province. This is despicable.

Yes we all wanted Mr. Wilson to finish his Audit now what do we hear nothing. He was doing his job and should been allowed to complete it.

Yes right now is a good time to let Lord know we aren't going to take it and stop lying to us. No one would never accuse you not being to talk in circles, well done.
Don't let him buy an extra seat because we need some control too. No matter how big no matter how small; it would be a big wake up call that he deserves.

Vote Dr. Doherty and give Hooton the Booton.

She has planned this fantasy and will never revisit the tax deal; she said she would go revisit the deal if Mayor & Council would do so. Let's keep her trying her best at a cause that she certaninly took lightly. Welcome back to reality. Anytime before council she can revisit it and let Court second her request or maybe this time she could be there to second Court motion. Oh what terrible webs she weaves.

Give Hooton the Booton.

No need to attack people who are not responsible and who do you think caused these problem?
We only want some fairness in life to be able to have the necessities and maybe in case of an emergency be able to have funds there, not that much to ask for.

No one seems to mine helping billionaires for 25 years. Look into my eyes and that is that.

They don't have patience for people like you and I; let disconnect their services, fine them, give them a rebate they have to claim. The wealthy get to write off expenses we don't have a say except pay up.

Give Hooton and Lord an eye opener for Christmas. Give Hooton the Booton.

Well if Ms. Hooton does get elected she probaly will not be there long there is no was that she didnt go over her spending amount. If those ads in the paper are donation she still is only allowed to accept so much. She will be turning something that cost $1500 into $150. I think we should have a good look around us and remember exactly what she spent her money on because that report is made public within a couple of months after the election.

You have to remember, like the above points out, there are 'ways around' election financing limits. So 'illegal' MAY be a stretch. Something else that could be looked into is the prices they pay for newspaper ads. Irving is well known for giving 'their' companies cheaper rates, or lower than advertised rates. It's clear Irving supports Lord (for now) so it wouldn't surprise me if tories got a lower rate than liberals, but then again, that may be too blatant even for Irving during a by-election.

Well today's paper had 18 ads for Hooton; no one else had ads. Who is the Irvings' supporting? Yes most articles by writer's today another 6 in a positive spin for Hooton. A few digs at others; not too bias; sure.
Some of these papers publish over 30 thousand, Here is one paper but who knows how many more had a full page ad. Flyers, pamphlets, advertisements and many more door to door, PO Boxes, stores, streets, radio, TV, Hooton Buttons and who knows what elses. Add to the list if possible.

Give Hooton the Booton!

Yes nothing would surprise me because they passed a Bill to make it legal to give a tax break to billionaires. So what is the problem Michelle will allowed the exception; I'm sure. Nothing will ever be fair in Saint John , NB.
Give Hooton what Lord deserves a good swift Boot in ###.

The people in saint john harbour are voting in a representative, just like everyone else. Want to send Lord a message, use your email

Anonymous said...

Lord does not even respond to e-mails. Do not waste time doing that. Only way he will get the message when he is out of power.

Anonymous said...

Yes I personally email Premier Lord ; never received anything until the BY- Election, it was referred to his assistant who referred it to someone else. Great job and I did forward the Email to C. LeBlanc just to share the lack of substance. Good Luck I'm just a regular taxpayer not anyone important except when he wants a vote. We don't count to him or Hooton --- Give her a Booton now.

And when you die you can take your 'stuff' with you, while people like Charles and Tim will actually be remembered as trying to make the province a better place. What have you done for anybody lately?

Thing is, most canadians don't WANT to be Donald Trump or as poor as Charles. Here's an idea, take the $50 million our government GAVE to Irving and give it to those on welfare to invest and get educated. It would go a hell of a lot further than Irving's new house in Bermuda.

If you want to live in the land of Donald Trump, you're only a few hundred km from the border-I'll drive you.
