SOME STRANGER VIEWS OF WHAT HAPPENED AT UNBSJ WITH MICHELLE HOOTEN!!!!!

Hoot-bodygaurd

Dear Mr. LeBlanc

This is the student that released the story to Rick Mantle today.

I called Rick to help inform the citizens in the Saint John harbour election to know what Ms. Hooton said to my class at UNBSJ.

Also I had my Professor confirm my story today on talk of the town for those who listened.

So to begin our class studies politics, so our PROF thought it would be a good idea to bring all three candidates in (Robiouchard, Doherty, Hooton). The candidates were to come in and tell us about their party not about there ideologies.

Hooton did the opposite. She said she did not prepare to talk to us so she would shoot from the "cuff".

After she was done her spiel she was ready for questions, the first question came from a fellow student of mine who asked about small business taxes.

She answered him rudely and told him "that she had been a business woman since she was 19 years old and that he didn’t know what he was talking about".

After that I asked the question why she thought it would be fair for her to keep her position as deputy mayor and accept the salary that all citizens of the city pay her while she is only serving a select group of people and that was the Saint John harbour riding.

She said I was "wrong"!!!

I said excuse me how could I be wrong, I asked where you were last night (referring to her being at the debate) and that there was a mayor's meeting two weekends ago in PEI and the mayor was not in Canada so it is her job to be acting mayor, this meeting just happened to be the same day as her PC nomination.

She told me that this was not the case that it’s not her job to be there or to tell who or who not to go and basically yelling her response at me.

She then saw me roll my eyes and pointed her finger at me and told me not to roll my eyes at her.

My professor stopped that question and proceeded on.

An older student brought up the LNG question so that it could be clarified.

She said that on the long weekend she was out of town but on Sunday she had a private meeting with the mayor and the mayor asked her not to tell anyone else of this new situation.

That Monday the council had a 6 minute meeting to inform them of this and they had till 12 midnight to approve of this.

At first she said she was against two things

(1) the deal

(2) the process, and that night at council the motion was accepted.

She said she began thinking that how could only one person (that being Hooton) stand up against the Irving’s ( But it was not just her against the Irving’s as she made it seem )

After that she said that she could not support a councilor who thought he was bullet proof and continue this grandstanding that he was performing.

So she would let it slide.

She wasn’t willing to get up on her chair and start waving her arms and screaming.

So when this councilor put this motion through that at this point she was only against the(1) process and that a certain "spin doctor" might have you to believe other wise.

This was when Professor A (use A not to reveal his identity because I did not ask for permission to use his name) PROF A was not the actual PROF of the class he was invited by the actual PROF.

He spoke up and said how can you say you’re not contradicting yourself when you just flip flopped between point (1) and (2).

Ms. Hooton began to answer him but the actual professor of the class asked him to leave and there were some words between the two(Hooton and PROF A) until PROF A left the room.

The student with the sign at this time stood up and said that he was leaving the room because he felt it was not right for the Professor not to be able to voice his opinion.

Class quickly ended after this and the student came back into the room.

He was sitting there when Ms. Hooton came over to where he was sitting and demanded that he give her the sign, that read " I’m not rooton for Hooton " this was a sign on paper not one over her campaign signs.

She was with three men two of which where bigger men and a smaller fellow.

The student gave her the sign and she folded it up put it in her jacket and left and left.

If you need any more conformation of this I think there are 100 students in my class to verify this.

It should be time that the residents of Saint John harbour give hoot the boot.

Aslo Proof A may have this on a tape recoder as he did tape the other two candidates.

I'll get back to you if he has this.

The lady has a short fuse and thinks too highly of herself. A replica of Bernard Lord.

I would just like to know which of the prof A showed all his students thats it's perfectly acceptable to call someone a LIAR in a public debate.

Let me begin by stating without hesitation that Hooton's antics are absolutely disgraceful. Really though, who does she think she is asking for this student's sign? That is not democracy! Her style is relective of a Dictatorship form of leadership. "Hey, Iam Michelle Hooton...you can't have a sign saying your not going to vote for me in a classroom environment designed purposely to foster open discussion, free speech and political freedom."

If this isn't a true promotion of her own political sensitivity and willingness to quell the voice of the people, then I don't know what is. Setting aside Liberal vs. Conservative for a moment, Hooton's flagrant disregard to democracy is embearassing and not in step with Canadian values. That is to be able to voice one's own political beliefs without fetter or restriction.

Politicians such as Trevor Holder, Jody Carr, Kelly Lamrock, TJ Burke...to name a few are ones that at least listen and work for their constituents. Say what you will about these guys, but I can tell you this. They are all very well liked in their ridings and say it how it is! I mean look at someone like Burke. That guy has guts! He stood there by himself in the legislature without any support and flat out took on the system that has marginalized people such as the poor for the last 250 years. I am a firm believer that if you can't stand up for yourself than how can you stand up for others? I am not shallow to believe that party lines separate people like him from someone one Trevor Holder. Holder is the same way. If you don't like what he say's...too bad...its probably true. He shoots from the hip and speaks from the heart. I have watched alot of people come and go in politics, but if you ask me we need more people like these young guys who are willing to work together, listen to people and not squander a student's right to voice his/her opinion.

Hooton is a disgrace.

The people of Saint John are only seeing the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Hooton's true colors! The UNBSJ incident is only the beginning. Whatever venture she decides to go for you can bank on one thing, what's in it for her!

When the pressure is on as it is now, her looks & big smile won't compensate for what's lacking upstairs. Hooton will become vendictive, recalcitrant & lash out at anyone who challenges her position. She fits right into the Lord mould....

She should go back to directing plays at SJHS where everyone thinks she wonderful & come to think of it so does she. Do we really need a narcissistic person representing Saint John?

Bodyguards?? How typical of Hooton to show off her self-imposed power, thoughts & viewpoints upon the public . The public who not too long ago (16 mths) was courted with fine words & a splashy campaign when she was running for SJ council. Certainly not the 'girl next door' theme she tries to portray herself as being. Beware of the silver tongued devil!

Hooton's campaign posters "offends my sensibilities"!! Perhaps Ms. Hooton should give up the race as she doesn't seem to have "the intestinal fortitude"!!

I am also a political science student who attended Ms.Hooton's speech at UNBSJ. I was appalled with the manner in which our class was addressed. All other candidates had very informative presentations, while Michelle couldn’t be bothered to even tell us anything about what her party stands for. When asked the same questions which had been asked to other candidates she responded extremely rudely to questions that the two other candidates were more than happy to answer. Not only was she rude she told the students asking questions that they were wrong and didn’t know what they were talking about. She was not able to give her party’s stance on the questions as the other two candidates had done. If she is not able to deal with questions from university students how will she deal with other politicians in the legislature? She also admitted that she was still worked up over they previous nights debate. Further she went on to say how she was “scared to death of Irving” after the LNG deal. She also mentioned how she was also scared to have gone against the mayor. If she was so scared here how on earth will she have the courage to stand up against Bernard Lord when after this by-election he goes back to forgetting about Saint John??

GOD LOVE the young man with the back bone to speak out and we should "teach our children" (Neil Young") to speak on what ever they want. Too bad for Hooton she should not represent anyone with her attitude and disrespect for our youth.

Why don't we all just eat plenty of beans before the next debate and then we could be "Tootin for Hooton!"
The lady has got to lose this election and fade into the sunset once her term of Deputy Mayor is over!

Anonymous said...

Maybe she didn't talk about party policy because she doesn't know it.

She is an opportunist, not a PC.

Anonymous said...

Hooton is in it for the glory & public exposure she so craves & desires. What? You mean she should know what her party stands for? Come on, that would mean reading & that would take away from what she likes to do best, smile!

A pity really!

IN MY OPINION:

I want to see if anything will be in tomorrow's Telegraph-Journal and to me that will tell the whole story.

A member of the staff had called me on the phone earlier this evening on a different issue from the Fredericton office of the Telegraph Journal.

I happened to ask her what she thought of Mrs.Hooten losing her composure at the University yesterday.
And that the pressures of her inexperience at the next level of Governing was starting to shake her very foundation.
She seemed shocked that she didn't know about it.

Now I don't know if the Saint John office was kept in the dark also or, if they were aware and just didn't tell the Provincial office in Fredericton.
But I will say this lady seemed to be genuinely blindsided with this information.

But I was sure to tell her of everything I knew about what I'd heard on Talk of the town or that I'd read on this blogsite by credible witnesses.

I am now concerned if there is nothing mentioned in the provincial section of the Telegraph Journal tomorrow morning of this Importance and circumstance then I will forced to believe that Mrs. Hooten and Mr. Lord are indeed Irving backed no matter what.

And that the Telegraph Journal is indeed manipulating the type of information filtered to the open public and that this information is being handled by a privately owned and family run Newspaper.

If this were in any other place but Saint John New Brunswick it would definitely warrant front-page coverage.

To answer Timothy Smith, I would say that although F'ton may not know what's going on in Saint John, its citizens certainly do. Word quickly spreads around town especially throughout the university. Who do you think those students will vote for after that fiasco? Hooton certainly showed her true colors by showing up unprepared & figured what would a bunch of kids know about anything.

By the way, her first business was selling lemonade...........yep, a 'real business woman'!

Micjelle was more than likely the Best Lookin` Babe to grace the Hallways of UNBSJ

The paper's on my door step, I haven't looked at it yet. If the story's not there i bet they couldn't get any comments. I would expect that the students and teachers involved don't want to get on record. Plus UNB has a huge spin factory that likes to hind unpleasantness on campus.

7:33 your comment makes no sence as one of the professors went on talk of the town to give her side of the story yesterday morning and the students are also speaking out on this issue and I believe CBC went to the unbsj to gather information on this too.

But I know for a fact that Saint Johners are mad as hell over Mrs.Hooten's disrespect of these students and rightly so.

I'm a 3rd year poli sci major and the only people who seem to care about this are you folks.

Thats because supression of information seems to keep the majority of the public in the dark which was one of Charlie's biggest concerns at the meeting that took place in moncton about this exact situation about private interests owning the provincial newspapers.I could write on this one till the cows come home but am very busy this morning maybe someone can expand on this I'll check back when time allows it.

It's unfortunate that nobody has thought of joining the liberal party to help actually do something about getting rid of the tories. Does anybody even know what is going on IN THE RIDING? How about sending out brochures or calling.

I was sickened by much of your website. It is not only hateful-it borders on slander and feeds ignorance. I may be young, but I at lease make an effort to avoid beng vindictive. It doesn't hurt to treat people as you want them to treat you, regardless of your perceived sense of injustice.Oh,and by the way,I am a diehard N.D.P.er.

Ha! We seemed to think it was a good idea when the opportunistic narcissist was Elsie Wayne! I can't imagine we've gotten any smarter as a city since those days....

Hey folks if you were there, come forward with your names to the media and tell the story. If one media outlet shoots you down, go to another one. They're not all run by the Irvings. However you can't just be anonymous, it offers no credibility and no reporter worth his/her salt is going to print a story like this with all anonymous sources. That's setting yourself up for a lawsuit. However if you were there and saw all this for your own eyes, come forward. If it happened voters deserve to know and get an explanation from Mrs. Hooton.

Yes,indeed,"thank God for talk shows".Thats why I now listen to the professionally run afternoon show on the new station.I'm tired of the incessant complaining and negativity that seems of late to typify this city.No wonder Saint John gets so little-they whine when they don't get anything and when they finally do get something, they still whine.

Was not one of the professors on talk show on a radio station. That is not anonymous.

Anonymous said...

yes the comment above this has merrit as the Teacher of that classroom called rick mantle and identified herself as such and explained this story in it's entirety, good call.

Spinks said...

Good enough. Can't get CFBC on the Net so tough to hear unless the wind blows the airwaves right from the Port City. I'm puzzled why it's not a story as long as enough people are willing to talk about it and put their names to it. Conspiracy theories of the Irvings aside, there are other media outlets out there. Since I know some journalists drop by here, what about it guys, where's the story?

Lord has been dropping our money left, right and centre to buy this seat with our tax dollars. They also have been too much on nonsense for an opportuntity to keep this seat that Lord himself says it won't matter, I beg to differ. He is running scared, having pistures taken with children and giving money our money. The paxpayers should be in the pictures they work hard for that money. Have we forgotten real values? If Lord win then yes we have. No one in NB will ever comprehend the damage to come! They always talk about proverty but there are many levels of it and no one will help us if we can't pay our bills. They will sit Fredericton and MR. Speaker, Mr Speaker they love us in Saint John; we did a good number on them. Ha Ha ha hhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. All for a vote, open your eyes and vote for what is right; if you like the taxes and the tax deal for billionaires only. Forget other businesses and other citizens who have been here through thick and thin for what! True growth will be when you vote Hooton and Lord out. THe paper is an Irving PC paper all the way. News people can't voice an opinion about UNB OR ANYTHING THAT WOULD BE AGAINST HOOTON. Smile a little while for me Lord! Bye Bye!

Anonymous said...

That doesn't make any sense. Not voting Hooton in doesn't change government so there won't be any change at all. Hey Saint John Harbour vote Hooton in, get everything you can and toss her next election if you don't like her. For the first time in since '91 don't be in opposition.

Anonymous said...

If you vote Hooton then 10:09 AM you think there will be a change. Vote for Hooton is a vote against change. Get your facts right.

Anonymous said...

Please let Hooton and Lord know we have had enough of their lies and boy the keeps pouring in the money and the insurance rates will go down, gas prices did go down but watch after they go back to Fredericton. Take the money and run. Vote for Dr.Doherty.
