The provincial government has spent $50,000 to create a suite of offices for a new cabinet minister.

Premier Bernard Lord's recent cabinet shuffle created a problem in Marysville Place, a government building that was home to the Department of Environment and Local Government. It's now two departments with two ministers, but there was only one ministerial office suite.

A second one has been installed for new Local Government Minister Rose-May Poirier, her deputy minister and her staff. The $50,000 tab includes private washrooms for Poirier and her deputy.

The minister in charge of government buildings, Bev Harrison, says private washrooms are standard for people in equivalent jobs like corporate executives, or even high school principals. "It's tax dollars spent in the fashion that anybody's entitled to," he said.

Opposition Liberal MLA Rick Brewer said he's not sure why this was a priority given the other things government could be funding.

"I don't know that it would be a necessity," he said. "I would think that when nature's call happens, if it's down the hall, go down the hall."

Officials said that Percy Mockler, the minister in charge of the new wellness department, may also get a new office suite.

It looks as though Mr.Lord is just going to keep putting the screws to this province and its citizens right down to the last day in power without a second glance.

He seems to be under the misguided thought that the Province of New Brunswick just like his so called Conservative party owes him as much as he sees fit to take on any givin day to finance his bizzar outlook on how the rich should always be above the peasants of which he represents.

He seems to believe that issues such as this are more important than giving those funds to the less fortunite of this province.

Which is probably why he make the most rediculus comment of 2005 when he publicly said with all honesty he had no clue that there was such poverty and so many suffering poor within this province and to top it off that rediculus statement is obviously the first and only time he has ever told the truth and nothing but the truth so help him god.

Tory antics aren't lost on Grit MLA

One has to wonder about the antics of the Lord government as it attempts to win a third term in office.

First of all, it scared everyone to death by announcing a huge increase in NB Power rates for both industry and residential customers - not a hard thing to do when it was this government that appointed the CEO of NB Power in the first place.

When it appears that all is lost, the Tories come along and "saved the day" by using the taxpayers' own money to subsidize our own power company. If we fall for this, then there is a bridge in Brooklyn that I'm sure they'll try to sell us next time.

It was this government's mismanagement that got NB Power in trouble in the first place. It broke up the corporation, costing us a fortune.

Then it spent $750 million on a failed Orimulsion deal.

This deal should have saved us billions, but because they didn't secure a signed contract, we lost the savings.

What's really good is that it made the announcement of how it would save us money by using its chief of staff - one of many former MLAs the public voted out in the last election who are now back working for you and me.

To make it even better, the government trotted out the newly-anointed energy minister, who's back in cabinet - sent back to save us all.

It makes you wonder, when you flick the switch, will the lights come on?

Here is another one to back the other two up.

Province can no longer afford this pricey premier

According to the article, "Lord's PC salary up sevenfold since '99; Party paid leader close to $70, 000 in 2005" (March 2), Premier Bernard Lord has received close to $70,000 from the New Brunswick Progressive Conservative Party on top of the salary and expense allowance of $115,596 from the province. This is a recipe for corruption.

Not only should the citizens of New Brunswick ask for an ethics inquiry, but there should be a complete audit of the provincial Conservative party. It should open the books concerning contributions of all corporations that depend on the government to do business, such as those in the auto insurance industry. Maybe there are examples where corporations in other industries have been very generous to this party.

Mr. Lord's administration is so disconnected with the reality of New Brunswick families.

Why are we losing most of our young people every day? Because there is no future for them in New Brunswick due to the lack of work.

Many seniors who had planned to retire in New Brunswick are saying goodbye in large numbers as they no longer can cope or manage their affairs living in the province.

It is nothing but sad and a shame for an elected government to live in a state of disgraceful ignorance towards the plight of its people.

It is unfortunate that those who suffer the most discomfort are always the last ones to come forward. Look around you, things are not getting better.

Give us a breath of fresh air and call an election Mr. Lord. We can no longer afford you.
