It's no secret that I don't much care for Poitras' reporting or the CBC in general but this is a good move and with rare exception, Poitras' blog has been pretty good.

My one beef is that it does not allow nicknamed bloggers to leave comments which in essence (present company excluded Charles) is 99% of bloggers.

According to Jacques, it's CBC policy to only allow comments from those who leave first and last names. Makes bureaucratic sense but not quite as much sense in the blogosphere. As such spinkaboutit.blogspot.com is providing a link to most of Jacques blog. If you don't want to leave your name at CBC you can leave your nicknamed (or Charles, as always your own) comment at Spink About It.

Spinks, CBC is a major corporation and it can be sued for liable for any silly little thing. They have no choice but to be careful. CBC is ahead of others as it has started this blog and recognize the importance of electronic media.

No sale anon. The CBC can and do moderate the comments so there's no problem in putting up posts with thoughtful discussion. Jacques latest post shows that there those who might be upset but sue-worthy? Now Mike Murphy might think so but most people won't. CBC missed the boat on this one.

atlanticblogger.com has written an article on this issue as well and I concur. He/she even has a neat feature on Charles blog.

This is not a major issue if you ask me, why don't you just put your real name? What's the worst that can happen? You get fired? If I get fired from a job because I voiced my opinion, I don't want to have worked for them in the first place.

As for the Poitras blog, it is fairly well done, nothing great, but certainly better than Charles'.

Well graeme, that's not blogging in the true sense. I don't think the CBC employees agree with the policy either because during last year's lockout they set up a blog that allowed not only nicknames but anonymous comments as well. This is CBC bureaucracy run amok.

Frankly Charles I was surprised to see your comment on the CBC blog about this issue. Where would this blog be if only those who left first and last names and their towns were allowed on it. Even Graeme's comment would be disallowed.

I hate to agree with you Spinks but you're 100% right.

But real names would be a good idea. I really like to put the face or name to the comment.

But if veryone were force to write their names in here? This blog would be truly dead!!!!
