Police in Miramichi, N.B., are seeking the public's help in finding stolen methadone that three people may have overdosed on since Saturday.
Miramichi police Sgt. Brian Cummings says a litre of the drug, used to treat narcotic addictions, was stolen from a local pharmacy on Saturday.
Since then, three people have been admitted to hospital suffering from overdoses. One person remains in critical condition.
Cummings says officers searched the Red Bank and Eel Ground First Nations, and recovered some of the methadone in Sunny Corner, but says a large quantity is still missing.
"Our greatest fear would be that somebody would end up passing away as a result of taking this medication, and you know we'd hate to see it end up in the hands of a child or somebody very young and have them take it," he said.
Cummings says anyone with information about the missing drug should contact police immediately.
