Keep up the good work. A lot of people are saying the pipeline is a done deal.

I hope they are wrong. If they go ahead with the pipeline route being proposed and a second refinary? The rest of the population might as well move away and give the whole city to Irving.

Of course nothing would be said because the local newspaper has a policy of not reporting negative news about The Irvings I would not want to be around if it ever explodes.

Maybe they should paint a big bulls eye on all map references for Saint John

Did you read the here article? It doesn't celebrate the monopoly, it discusses it.

person, I hope you are not accusing Charles of making wild unfounded allegations of a NB wide conspiracy involving various parties and individuals, all of whom have been bought by Irving and who answer only to Irving, before he gets all the facts.

I'd have to say that it pretty much celebrates it. Mentioning a few missives is hardly critical commentary. Notice in such cases the 'man in the street' interviews are noticably absent in some stories, while very popular in others.

The facts that it avoids mentioning are glaring. We have a city councillor saying "no tax breaks for polluters", this is of course after a MASSIVE tax break for Canaport. In passing it notes that refineries are the largest users of natural gas, so Irving gets a nice tax break (half the taxes of the company in Maine) to process natural gas which it uses to power its refinery. How exactly is that NOT a tax subsidy?

And poor David Coon always gets quoted in every environmental issue, so much so that now Irving presses go to him each time because he's one of those 'tree hugging nuts'. That discredits the environmental issues straight away.

What you WONT hear from the Irving press, except as an aside once a year, is how many deaths are due to air pollution in Saint John, and how many more. As noted on another blog, New Brunswick produces as much greenhouse gas as the entire province of British Columbia.

But its no surprise that in New Brunswick those who care about such things have nobody to turn to. A non existent NDP, a barely starting Green Party, and two parties running the show who both think its absolutely wonderful.

You'll notice the realists are already getting some airplay, especially now that the Irvings know that they will have no trouble bringing it in, and stating that "1000 jobs are an over exageration". That's such good news.

So for the 'energy hub' we have a total of, say 808 jobs contributed by the Irvings for the MASSIVE profits they will recieve from gas and oil.

What was especially amusing was hearing whatsisname gleefully touting "we're talking nuclear, we're talking.....tidal? Wind? Get real, New Brunswick is talking gas and nuclear and that's it. Solar, wind and tidal are nowhere near in existence. And of course with these and a tax cut on gas there's hardly an incentive for people to look elsewhere.

It's really sad to see New Brunswick turn into such a toxic waste dump. All so that one company can rake in billions. The happiest ones are the oil extractors, everyplace in the industrial world said no to refineries long ago and is looking at getting out polluting the world, now finally there's a "zone of sacrifice" where not only will people die, but the government will gleefully hand over the resources.

At this point there's no doubt that at the very least New Brunswickers should start demanding a federal environmental impact review. THe reality IS that the provincial one is a joke, and only requires numbers FROM THE COMPANY, like in the case of Canaport (even the americans have four levels of environmental reviews vs the one bad one in NB).

That's about the only concession New Brunswickers can hope to get against Irving, so people better get lobbying for it.

Yes the Irving spin is everywhere and people are gullible, not the way Saint John home owners or citizens should be treated. Come out my way by Coleson cove and go directly to UNITED STATES. Don't tear up our city with these risks, UNNESSARY AND CRIMININAL TO OUR YOUNG PEOPLE WHO LIVE HERE, DISRESPECTFUL OF SENIORS AND ALL OTHER HOMEOWNERS!
