Under the title "THE CAT" it is the 7th paragraph down in that article...

"The Cat is owned by a Charlottetown-based firm called Bay Ferries, but it's generally known in the Yarmouth area that this company is a part of the Irving empire."

If this is true then I guess I can finally make sense of this next article regarding the rejection of another company wanting to buy it...

Ferry proponents criticize N.S. government

HALIFAX (CP) - Georg Kostyk says his group is keen to take over service of the Digby, N.S., ferry but says the Nova Scotia government isn't taking his plan seriously.

The chairman of SeaSpeed-Phast Group Alliance of Ontario, which has never run a ferry service before, said the company submitted a 2,000-page proposal to the Office of Economic Development.

However, he said the response from the province has been far from enthusiastic.

"Basically, they dropped it like a hot potato," Kostyk said in a phone interview yesterday.

We know for sure that ...

Bay Ferries Ltd. took over the Bay of Fundy run in 1997. Before the company operated the service, it was subsidized by Ottawa.

yes and it still should be !

The Princess of Acadia is scheduled to make her last run on Oct. 31.

then this article...
Deal struck to keep Digby ferry afloat

A tentative deal has been reached to keep the ferry service between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick running for another two years, Peter MacKay said Friday.

MacKay, the Nova Scotia MP and minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, said details would be announced Monday.

Bay Ferries had threatened to end the ferry service connecting Digby and Saint John on Oct. 31.

The federal, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick governments offered $8 million to keep the service going for two years.

Someone from the inside told me that irving owns 51% of Bay Ferries.

Therefore if this is all true then irving just got 8 $$million the taxpayers... and the ferry will be pulled from the waters IF the LNG is to sail up and down the strait. This must be the real reason why it has been threatened to be pulled. Is the "reason" that the gas prices were too high and not enough people used it, true ? If not then the owner lucks in and gets the extra business brought on by the worried consumer who tries to take the ferry at all times to support it plus the enmities plus the 8$$$mill.

In the end when it comes time to sail the LNG thru the channel then the ferry gets yanked citing 'too costly" but the real reason is so the LNG ships can take over the channel. Warning the people that it is a TENTATIVE deal and good for only for 2 years.

We know that where there's LNG ships there cannot be any other sailing craft in those waters. The owner gets $$8million from a self-doomed project that was going to pulled ANYWAY....wow is this a bad dream ? A similar deal happened at the ship yard.

WOW, something so obvious but I doubt few even thought of it. Does Irving own EVERYTHING in the maritimes? I tried doing some websearching to find out, but found little, which is always a good clue that its Irving. I seem to recall some research a while ago that said it WAS owned by a PEI family. However, they easily could only own 49% and be the 'front man'. Good post Charles, how could you find out for sure? I wonder what kind of discounts Irving trucks get to use it?

Regarding "can this be true" I'm sure you are expecting very angry irving workers/supporters to rain a written fire storm on you for posting this potential truth that further damages irvings reputation and those who DECIDE to work/support for him.

I know its worth the criticism for you to just get the stuff out in the open, you deserve a medal Charles.

Of course it might also be that the "other companies" 2000 page proposal wanted even more money from the government to operate the ferry.

Bay Ferries owned by Irving? I hope this is not true. It would make the pricy fuel excuse a very poor one to use.
The ferry is crucial to the area and if it is doomed, then so are many of the local businesses. A new law has truck drivers only allowed to drive 13 hours in a 24 hour period so to transport goods out of the province could be a two day job. Many of the shops in the area simply can not afford the costs.

Where is the proof charles? oh yeah you don't have any. BS like most of what you post. you should be ashamed. this is why you will never ever be even a pseudo journalist. You never let facts get in the way of your BS. no wonder you are in court. you will probably lie there also. or at least not give all the facts. that is standard with you. did you even bother to check to see if there was a chance that this may be true? Probably not. Always with the BS. Grow up.

Irving has been very good at hiding what he owns or has purchased because there is good reason for people to angry for all that goes on behind closed doors.

Nothing seems to be above board. It is wrong what they are doing to our city and putting a 30 inch pipe in our back yards.

Disgusted and frankly an ill feeling comes over most people when they think of the Irvings and waht they get away with. The Mayor is not helping the people and defending our park and city. He is in Florida instead. Big deal about the Pension problem which he has denied all along. Could of been there for us at the NEB. We are all digusted by his turncoat style. He ran with several councillors and they all make sure Irving gets this all passed.

If it were true Irving got 51% of 8 million - not 8 million.
