I didn't think much of this story when someone sent me an email this morning concerning a player let go because he refuse to sign his name on a Canadian Flag supporting our troops in Afghanistan.
My attitude quickly change once I heard his interview on CBC television. < sorry Spinks >
He said that anyone who don't follow his way of thinking on certain issues will be let go!!!
This includes his views on our troops in Afghanistan.
This is not right!!!
Removing the right from a player to freely gave his view or think view in Canada is unacceptable!!!
Politics and Sports don't go hand in hand.
Jacques Beaulieu should be fired from the Sea Dogs.
This kind of attitude is totally unacceptable in Canada!!!!

The question is not whether you support Canada being in Afghanistan, but rather if you support our troops there. If you don not support our troops then you are not a true Canadian and should go back to Quebec or at least keep your unpatriotic mouth shut!
And again, what kind of treatment do you give to people who are against your views? Sometimes then, you should fire yourself.
Canada is a PEACEKEEPING nation with a fifty year history of working in the UN. This is a warmaking mission of aggression, it is those supporting occupying a foreign country against their wishes who are unpatriotic and should get back in their time machine and return to Germany sixty years ago, or move to the states.
The view above is one persons view and that's all. Other people are entitled to their views and that's a pretty fascist view that people should be fired if they don't 'toe the line'. People are entitled to views that oppose yours, I don't support your view, and in fact in most polls most canadians don't support it, but we don't think you should be fired for it.
This organizaation must be like a the irving empire, dictatiorship. Don't do what they want and your out. They need Ivan Vatour.
I believe that everyone should support our troops whether or not you support the mission.
BUT...that's not the way of it. And I don't think the guy should be fired because he doesn't tow the party line.
It's his right to not support them. As much as I wish he did, I don't think it's right to fire him for that belief.
And I would like to point out that while Canada has a long Peacekeeping history, we are not a leader in that field any longer. We are ranked pretty far down (55th?) and last time I checked (a while ago) it was Bangladesh who was #1 in the world for Peacekeeping Missions.
Common Canadian misconception.
publicity stunt, rules for flying the flag, you can't sign it.

Well as I posted in the Irving paper, the Canadian troups are fighting whereever they are needed so we, the Canadian public can express our selves, for or against whatever we believe in. This is not old Russia, we have freedom here. If this player did refuse to sign that is his / her right. This player is not paid to sign flags, banners, birthday cards. he/she is paid to play a came. I strongly believe this coach has to go. Jacques Beaulieu has no rights to tell someone else what to think off the ice. I strongly believe a public apology is in order in this case.
"dissent's not treason but they talk like it's the same." - Sleater-Kinney.
Not "Old Russia"? Considering that we're talking about Afghanistan, that's a bit of an ironic thing to say, isn't it? ;)
History repeats, I guess.
I'm not going to way in pro or con on this. The CBC story says what I initially suspected anyway - that the coach and/or team had pre-existing reasons to want rid of him. This is just an indicator that Mr. Bouchard was not in unity with the rest of the team. Politics aside, a good team needs to function as one.
This story has taken on a life of its' own.No one knows how Bouchard feels about Afghanistan. That is not why he was fired. Some players just aren't coachable. The media has run away with this story and it has become something other than what it really is.
Notice how gullible some people are. Now that its a media event they are saying 'oh, we were getting rid of him anyway'. We have the coach and GM's initial quote that says this WAS the reason. And McCain backs him up. If you are gullible enough to believe that you are a governments wet dream.
He's the second highest scorer on the team, fourth highest in total points, that's hardly 'uncoachable'. If they were going to trade him they would have done it at some other time, now right before christmas when he's scoring so well.
Face reality, the coach ADMITTED this was the reason. Of course the corporate whitewashers are going to come in with a song and dance about their second highest scorer not being a 'team player'. You think Edmonton would have gotten rid of Messier back in the eighties? Get real.
I, for one, am boycotting Maple Leaf products and anybody who is seriously concerned about this fascist act should do the same. Likewise, if you love it, run out and buy lots of chicken.
