I understand what she is saying, however, ignorance of the Law is no excuse it is up to the Defendant who is her in this instance to educate herself on what the law is and use it against the individuals, she has this at her disposal through the local public library and also the University of New Brunswick faculty of Law has a law Library so none of us are with excuse, there are also websites such as the Government of New Brunswick site that you can log on and access the policies of Family and Community Services all you need is access to a computer, if she does not have access to a computer of her own, then let her use yours.
Thats easy to say when you don't have three kids. If that's the case, then ALL lawyers should be banned. If everybody can be trained in how to be a lawyer then lets' simply get rid of the entire industry.
Even knowing the rules of court are no help, there are set cases of precedent, there is the entire tradition of westminster law, there are precedents that will refer to other commonwealth countries even.
If the response to the poor is 'become a lawyer', that's a pretty harsh statement. Who has years to devote to that, particularly when you have the numerous other difficulties that the poor face, like just getting by.
And that's not even true, since that's what Vaughn Barnett did, wen t to law school, then couldn't find anybody who would let him work for the slave wages starting lawyers get, so he couldn't become a lawyer just to help the poor. He even did it pretty much freely, which would save NBers a lot of money in public defenders costs. But a policy decision was made to jail him simply for helping the poor.
She could find the time to camp out on the middle of downtown for a couple of weeks so there is no reason why she coldn't take a little time and do a little research. As for Barnett, he is the only one to blame for not becoming a lawyer. He had ample opportunity. He, just like so many others in here prefer to spend their time blaming others for their own short comings.

To be honest, I didn't like this interview because I don't agree with her logic and the way she lost her temper in court, but that is only my opinion.
