The date of the Legislature opening is finally here and it’s July 29th!

It was raining very hard.

We seem to get that a lot in the Capital during the summer months.

I was sitting against the pillar on the front step of the Legislature when suddenly Margaret Anne Blaney came out the door.

I first came across this politician the first instance that she ran in Saint John. She’s from Newfoundland and she fitted into the political scene very nicely.

She is a very attractive woman. Elizabeth Weir nickname her Barbie Doll!

Once she got elected, I phoned her house and left her a message. During the election of 1999, I confronted every candidate in the Saint John area of the issue of ADHD!

I wanted them to promise me that once they’re elected?

They would study the issue of ADHD! Norm Mcfarlane, Milt Sherwood and Rodney Weston all return their call but not Mrs. Blaney.

I left a straightforward message on her voice mail saying - Listen? Every PC’s phoned me and you being my MLA? I would accept you to return your call! Please call me!

Weeks went by and still nothing.

I attended a little gathering that Elsie Wayne had for a picnic for the voters.

I saw Margaret and wave and I might add that she also waved back!

I had a group of parents with me who were concern of the issue of ADD/ADHD.

I wrote a story about ADHD and I had a group of followers.

I might add that these days? Those people are long gone.

Anyway, I told Margaret - What’s the matter? You don’t return your phone calls?

In a very stern manner she said - My father is dying of Cancer in Newfoundland and I didn’t appreciate the manner you left your message on my voice mail.

Well? I’m very sorry but I didn’t her father was dying and c’est la vie.

We never chatted again for six years until this moment on the front steeps of the Legislature.

She was waiting for her drive and I was waiting for the rain to stop. She bent her knees and said in a gentle voice.

I never met anybody like you Charles!

Thank God there’s no one like me and I must admit that she sorts of turn me on with the manner she was talking . . . lol

During the next two weeks, I would notice that many politicians felt the same way!

She dressed the part and everyone was looking.

They couldn’t wait till Barbie Doll showed up! Am I making up these stories?

Of course not! While chatting with different politicians.

Margaret would walk by and they would forget what they were talking about!

It was funny!

During the next few months, we would bury the hatchet.

I would have some good conversation with Barbie Doll!

Once I heard that she was the new Minister of Employment and training?

I believe that she would make certain that I didn’t find work but these days I don’t have the same feeling.

It was nice to send my updates through the information highway but I had another way to share my opinion with the public.

The independent paper HERE from Saint John set up a forum on their web site and everybody from different walks of life could leave their views on different issues.

There was only one problem? You didn’t have to leave your name after you condemn a person.

Trust me? Many cowards called me the scum of the earth but they refuse to sign their name. I didn’t backed down on my updates and I didn’t care if they didn’t support my protest.

People are funny. No one wants to be seen supporting me in public but they would send me a private email telling me to avoid those cowards on the net.

As like my petition, You must have board shoulders when you’re doing a protest!

It’s not everyone who’s going to agree with you and that’s what makes this country great!

We can still debate issues without violence. As for the HERE paper?

On July 9th, they printed some anti-Irvings stories in their paper and I admire their courage for doing this. It’s nice to have an independent paper in this province who’s not afraid to speak out against these Billionaires!

I might add that on this 9th day of July? I have 400 names and no PC’s in 16 days!

I was considering in writing a song like the Christmas song of the 12 days of Christmas but in this case it would be like the 12 days in the front lawn and still no PC MLA!

I’m certain that you’re getting the picture.

I am very straightforward with my columns and updates so therefore you can only imagine what words that I would use for composing a song? Very scary!

On July 12th while collecting names, I noticed someone watching me his car. I approached the man to sign my petition.

The man told me that he was a police officer from the Town of Rothesay and he used to be station in Charlottown.

He asked me - Are the real stuff or are you faking it?

He told me that there used to be a guy who protested in front of the Legislature in Charlottown.

I heard about that guy, he fought for his rights against the compensation board.

I have nothing but great admiration for people who fight for what he/she believes in.

He told me that this protester used to connect a long intention cord from the Government building to his tent.

Inside his little home looked like a small apartment.

He had a radio, television and heater. I told the police officer that I didn’t have these luxuries!

I was the real stuff but it sure was a good idea because I could plug a cord to this Government building but no! I wanted to do the real stuff.

Too bad that I didn’t follow his suggestions because I had a cold and I believe that I took it on the evening of July 9 because the temperatures dip between six and eight.

I caught a cold and nobody had any Tylenol and that was too bad but that’s the life of a protester.

People suggested that I sleep with a heater but I wasn’t interested!

I knew that this wouldn’t be a picnic from the start so why bother stopping now because of the change in temperatures?

Doesn’t make sense? On July 11th, I hit my 500th name on my petition and this really tells me that if a civil servant in a City like Fredericton has a major problem with ADD/ADHD?

What the hell is going on around this Province? That’s the question?

Many people told me that they agreed with me but they couldn’t sign because they’re afraid to lose their jobs!

Don’t believe me? Read this story.

I was preaching to a few people when someone told me that he was working for the French Version of CBC television.

I didn’t believe him at first but I had too when people from the station showed up for an interview from Moncton.

I believe that his name was Andre and it was raining very hard. He took a shot of me throwing my wet newspapers in the garbage.

I told him that I collected a few hundreds but many told me that they supported me but couldn’t sign because they would lose their job!

The reporter found that line very hard to believe. So we did like candid camera and I proceeded across the street to find my next victim!

I lucked out because I found an older woman and she was French!
This went on en Francais but I’ll translate for you.

Hello? Do you know about ADD/ADHD and Ritalin?

She told me that she knows all about the use of drug in the school system.

I asked her to sign my petition?

She told me that she supported me 100% but she couldn’t sign because her husband is a Civil Servant!

I asked her if she went to Church? She told me that she loves Father Brien and the manner that he speaks to word of the Lord. < I’ll tell you more about Father Brien later on>

We discuss his last sermon and we both laugh.

It was time for this protester to go for the kill!

I told her that Father Brien supports me and he signed my petition!

She once again told me that she supports me 100% but she cannot sign because her husband is a civil servant.

She quickly jumped into her vehicle and left the area.

I grabbed my mike on my jacket and said to the reporter who was filming across the streets.

Now do you believe me???

I guess that program is going to be shown in September.

The program is supposed to be about Ritalin and I guess from the Acadians from the North Shore who signed my petition?

I guess there’s a major problem out there but the Government don’t seem to care.

On July 14, a few people called me the Ritalin man and trust me?

I’ve been called worst!

Some citizens were a little upset with me because I asked them in the past if they wish to sign my piece of paper. They angrily told me that if I continued to bug them? They would call the police!

I forgot their faces and it’s impossible for me to remember everyone.

But little did anyone knows that someone did call the police and I would be heading for a confrontation in weeks ahead.

On the evening of July 14, I knew that I was ready to crack up because I had a nightmare.

There I was in dreamland and I was having a conversation with the Premier Bernard Lord and he flatly told me that he never told me during the first election that there’s was a problem with Ritalin and once he was Premier that he would do something about it!

I straight forward told the Premier - ARE YOU CALLING ME A LIAR???

Then that was it! I woke up in a sweat! Let me tell you one thing? It’s pretty bad when a person has a nightmare about politicians.

I think that I’m cracking up and it’s time for me to go home!

I had a few cigarettes and when back to bed.

The next day, I was down because I only had two bucks left and I had almost no smokes. I don’t need food because the soup kitchen is down the streets but I do need my smokes and as luck would have it?

A woman< stranger > showed up and thanked me for fighting for the kids with ADD/ADHD and told me to continue the battle. I didn’t wish to take the money but once again she insisted!

People have been so nice to me and this gives me the strength to continue the battle against the over prescription of Ritalin!

The generously of the citizens would really be appreciated by this protester.

Yes, I do run into some bad idiots but the good gestures of the citizens overcome the bad!

Speaking of jerks? On July 12, I decided to go at the movies.

The city is full of activities during the summer months.

They had an old movie call- The Bounty < Staring Marlon Brando > They had this little screen in a park and hundrerds of citizens went to the movies with their beach chair.

By this time, I left my chairs and tent alone 100 times or more and no one did any damage.

During the beginning of my protest? I used to put my beach chair in my tent while I went away somewhere.

This time around I left my chair under a tree near the street.

Sorry? Too trustworthy, once I got back from the movies?

The chair was gone and it was too bad because Dorothy Dawson gave me that chair and I felt bad for the girl.

I was upset and I decided to walk at the walk over bridge to calm down.

It was a beautiful full moon and there’s nothing that I love better is a moon rise. I expected the bridge to be full of spectators but I was very surprise that I was the only one present.

Of course this is a civil servant city and they must be in their summer cottages enjoying the moon rise over a nice camp fire and beer!

Ohhh ..the life of a protester is very hard!

It was great to trust the citizens in this area but not too much!

July 14- 600th names. I found out early that the young kids really understand the emotional issue of ADHD!

I learned to ignored the older citizens because they don’t seem or want to understand what I’m saying and that’s too bad because every citizen from different walks of life should be concern of the over prescription among our youths in this Province.

On July 29, ATV news stopped by to asked me a few questions while I was chatting with my people.

I said to myself - My God? They’re finally going to let the public know about my protest!

I told a few people and I gathered at their home to see how much coverage that I would received.

The message have got to go out so they would make my job easier and it would help the kids.

We gathered around the tv screen and Steve Murphy the Anchorman spoke around 20 seconds about my protest!

There’s something wrong here and I just can’t figure out the way of thinking of the media in this Province.

Blaney should not complain; she certainly does as she wants. Frankly you hear very little form her on most issues.
