I felt very sad but no surprise here because this is the American way!

Our neighbors to the South are always proud to promote their right to bare Arms.

Well? With that right also come consequences and that’s the way it is!

Do you know how many people are killed by guns every single day of the week in the States?

Hundreds!!!!

But what can you say? This is what the Americans want and this is what they will get!

It’s very sad!

Yes, every talk shows such as Larry King will debate the issue of guns but everything will be forgotten in a couple of weeks.

I am sure happy to be a Canadian but then again we had have a couple of a few rampages of our own but I’m certain that if every Canadian had the right to own a weapon?

It would be a country in very bad shape.

I said it before in this blog and I’ll say it again.

If the Federal Canadian Government knocked at my door and told me - Mr. LeBlanc? We just pass a bill especially for you last night in Ottawa.

We know you never own a gun but you are not allowed to gun for the rest of your life.

Do you agree with this bill? Just signed these papers.

I would gladly sign those papers because I’m one of those individuals who should not be allowed to have a weapon because I might be too tempted to use it.

At least, I will admit to this.

Many people own a weapon and shouldn’t have that right.

I believe this is the case in Virginia?

The Americans must change their way of thinking if they wish to avoid tragedies like this in the future.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the families in Virginia!!!!

Hold your judgement there YANKEE -
It was most likely some kid that didn't grow up in the south / had never used a gun to hunt / never respected a gun in his life.

We Southerner's don't claim VA as a southern state. Yall took that state over shortly after the begining of your war!

Besides don't you think the kid would have killed 30+ if every gun ban in the US was enforced. We don't need more gun laws - just laws that apply to guns enforced.

And another thing - if this kid woulda got his ass whooped more when he was younger and was made to respect and follow the rules - I doubt he'd be doing shit like this now - and he wouldn't be dead.

You bleeding heart liberal yanks caused this shit with it takes a village - Well we are finding out now that the with village values comes mob rules.

Yes,that would work.
Now if the federal government had only knocked on that guys door and said nononononono you can't shoot someone, this wouldn't of happened.
Could you help get the word out.
Oh yes and another thing blah, blah, blah.
Or in other words, you hate Americans.

This isn't about gun laws. This is about a couple of nuts who happened to have guns.

Not quite as cut and dry as gun control Charles. Although the first instinct in something like this is take away all the guns, in reality this is the work of a couple of nuts and that shoudln't be forgotten. Britain is a fine example of the adage, "If you outlaw guns only the outlaws have guns."

I knew this would happen

4 dead, 9 hurt on way to jobs at Que. meat-packing plant

All the gun control laws could not and cannot stop these killings,it happened in our peaceful country as well! Why did it take so long for the police to get off their hind ends and take out this nut was it because they were too busy hiding outside behind trees?(I see bigtime gun control laws being brought in)
Take a look at Switzerland where just about every home has a rifle the people are for most part trained to use and look at their gun deaths, very very low including accidents!! An unarmed person is a victim this is what was proven today! People act with great shock when this happens can you imagine in iraq, afgahnistan where 50-60 people get killed in blasts on a week to monthly basis but we have been conditioned to think that their lives are somehow worth less imagine how these people feel???

This is alot bigger then the issue to bare arms. It can happen here , it has and it will again. Canada is not immuned guns or no guns.

We need to look to what is going on around us and the people who close their eyes need to have a wakeup call. There are many reasons this is going to continue to happen but we need to address some of the reasons why.

People need a different mind set and stop living in their own world and be inclusive of people around them and listen to them. We may never know all the reasons why this happen but I am sure alot will finally come out and things could have been done sooner.

Big mistake was not shuting down the University site right away and many lives could have saved. This is not hind sight just common sense and probably the proper procedure at any sight; school or not.

Violence will be increasing because many are at a boiling point; whether it is mental or other reasons. How people feel and are treated in everyday life day after day whether at home, school and everyday interactions with people around them; isolations and no one caring or listening can be one major problem. Face it; life today can be for most a very cold place to live. But some are living in a good place in their lives and don't see or feel the pain. We need to start somewhere and now we are knee deep or higher in the damage that has been done to those families, students, teachers, officiers and so many more who have to clean up this site.

We can blame the person who did it, their family and the list goes on but we all as a society have to look inside ourselves and accept part of the blame too.

Praying for people to finally be enlighted and really see the bigger picture after the mourning begins. This is not going away and is not acceptable and yes we must try to help people now not after they lose it in such a terrible painful act that never helps their pain just adds to everyones pain.

Praying for someone to see what it is and try to change the way we go about our everyday life and stop isolating people. Yes sometimes we are all guity of that in small ways we don't even think about it but the hurt is deep for those in pain.

It is a cold world and for some they have no where to turn and for other they are too ashamed. We still label mental illness.

No one has all the answers just wanting people to give this some thought and we know it is true these things happen. Not one case is the same. Praying for understanding so we make a conscious change in all our lives with all people who come into our lives from all walks of life and no matter how rich or poor; how famous or not; educated or not and the list can go on. We are all a person first and no one is better or more important. Stop judging people from their wealth or not and their good looks or not. This a starting point. Just one more; if they are in a click or they are shunned. In your eyes serve no purpose. All these mind games have to stop we try to take people down mentally day after day.

This is not to say in this case any of this is what happen but this does happen. Life could be so much more if we respected each other.

I'd say its a mix of things, however, even in the states there are lots lobbying for 'some' gun control. Trouble is, different states have different laws, and even some counties. And its not like there are checkpoints between counties and states.

A recent online discussion was about Nevada though, and there is something to the point about guns. They have very loose gun laws, and 140 times the amount of violent crime as in New Brunswick (even per capita).

That's all talked about in 'Bowling for Columbine', but there are definitely other reasons.

People don't run out gunning down people because they play a lot of video games or because of lax gun control laws. Canada has as many guns per capita.

To go back to Switzerland, not only does every house have a gun, but every man and now woman is trained in how to use it. Shooting guns is part of their society-but the rest of their society is far far different from american society. However, people shouldn't assume that at no point will some crazy swiss start shooting up some swiss school-anything is possible.

As mentioned above, it is just as possible that this guy was just some crazy person who would have done this no matter what country they were in. Canada has its own Dupres', Legere's, etc. In fact, the Dupres case is far more 'violent' when you look at it. A good comparison there is that either because of gun control or some other reason Dupres never had a gun, but whether he would have started shooting up Minto or not is debateable but clearly he's as crazed and violent as this guy-just not as many people got hurt.

But if it were true just about guns, then logically Montreal would have fewer gun laws than anywhere else because the same thing happened. However, that's not true, therefore the claim is false.

It is not the guns, knives, bats, bombs, cars and whatever method you chose. It is people killing people and we need to focus on helping people and we need to stop blaming the guns. Easy access of guns and drugs needs to stop. Proper mental up help needs to be part of our everyday mind set. We all need help so make it a priority now and be part of societies easy access without stigmatism and discrimination and stop labelling people. To get help is not always easy. People judge you when you ask for help and fear holds you back. That is a big problem and that has not changed.

Example if you need help now you have to make an appointment and explain your situition and that is not easy to do and it does take courage and you may have to wait two weeks. It is to serious to put them off. Mental health take many lives and we talk about smaller issues and pour money into many things that don't cause as much harm as this does.

Always getting off the real issues and mental health is it. Sorry we have to face it whether now or later. Pray we don't have to bury our loved ones.

One thing could of helped this situation and that would of been a red flag should be in place where he would have to prove he was mentally well to purchase a gun and that should take six months or more to slow the process.

We need a new way of thinking and that could be a start for purchasing new guns and then we can start back tracking later. Start now and stop putting off.
