Is that not the opposite? Beranard Lord is showing the same mentality as Quebec and wants to pattern NB after Quebec.

Bernie thinks playing Québécois will get him into 24 Sussex Drive.

All we need is private healthcare. Where is this man taking us?

Do not forget inflation. It may be more money but in terms of value it may not be much more than 90's. Lord talks lot of baloney. We are the only prrovince in the country which is losing money because of high gas prices. At least that is what Lord is saying. If you believe that then you will believe anything.

I think what Lord has said is that more money is spent on roads then comes in from the gas tax. That would be true for other provinces as well. That's why the feds are under so much pressure to give back some of the gas tax to municipalities for infrastructure, etc. They were ripping us off. They just signed a deal in NS this past week and it's about time. It's our money being paid in gas tax. It should ALL go to roads, provincial, federal and HST on gas.

If the gas tax agreement is not signed it is because of Lord and not feds in this case. Nova Scotia is also conservative government. If it is party politics then it would not have happened there, either. Lord is too busy playing politics on childcare money and tax credit.

Now you have gone beyond being spokesperson for Lord. You actually are putting words in his mouth. Lord said that because gas is too expensive therefore government pays more for gas thus we are losing money. Not my words, Lord's words. He is forgeting that 8% of GST is provincial tax over & above GST approximately 15cents per litre provincial tax. Every other jurisdiction in Canada admits that they are bringing in more money in taxes except NB in Lord's mind.

Missed that one but it makes sense. Think of all the government vehicles, for example school buses, forestry vehicles, transportation, etc and that makes sense. The extra in HST we're all paying probably wouldn't make up the 40-50 cent a litre hike when you think about all of those vehicles. Then add int the rebate everyone who is making under $45,000 is getting and he's probably right. I suspect it is costing the government more. I hadn't thought about it but you have a good point about the hike hurting government not helping.

No that is not my point. It is Mr. Lord's point that province is losing money as a result of higher gas prices. I do not believe that for a minute. NB does not have more vehicles than, let us say Ontario, or Nova Scotia.

Indeed province is racking in lot more gas tax money.Rest is baloney.

Frankly I don't know. It makes sense what Lord is saying but you could be right as well. We'll see when the budget comes out. It will be in there.

Yeah right! The budget will tell us the whole truth nothing but the truth. Was it not 2003 budget that when Lord and company said we had a surplus? It was pointed out that it was a deficit. Later on Auditor General confirmed it that it was a deficit. That was nationally reported and Lord's credibility went out of the window. He never recovered from that. No one believes a word he says. Then may be you do.

You have a good point on the surplus/deficit issue. However the HST and cost of gas for gov't vehicles should be fairly easy to find in the Transportation Budget. We'll see. Like I said, you might be right.

Government budgets are so convoluted that you hardly find the real facts such as earings on gas tax.
