The sponsorship 'scandal' was just business as usual. THe government gave a contract to a private company whose gratitude then found a donation back to the liberal party. That's simply politics, anybody who thinks a conservative party doesn't get it's donations from companies which it has helped get contracts is simply delusional.
The liberals are 'bad', the conservatives are 'worse'. In fact they are even less trustworthy, their policies have completely changed, they are simply the liberal party which will benefit different companies. At least 'old' conservatives used to be for smaller government, these conservatives voted with the liberals to bring in three new government bureaucracies-one of which was in Quebec and which Quebec didn't even want.
So next time people are griping about 'Quebec getting more than it deserves' should remember that Quebec representatives vote against it-Canada simply forces it on them.

jwmcq, I usually respect your opinion but I think in this case you are wrong. It is Harper who wants to restructure Canada after U.S and hence dictatorship.
Conservatives are making a big deal of Notwithstanding clause but it has never been used by feds or any province other than Quebec I believe. The clause was put in there to apease Quebec so that if it wishes not to abide by Charter it can do so. It is a clause which must have not been there to start with. Trudeau just gave in to bring in Quebec to accept the repatriated constitution. So basically when you are for Notwithstanding clause then you are trying to appease Quebec.
I am not thrilled by federal Liberals either but between Harper and Liberals I have to say Liberals because Harper is a sell out. Now he is promising Quebec autonomy, their own foriegn services etc., in order to win few seats. If that does not bother you then I do not know what will. Canada will be just not safe under Harper. Harper is sell out to separatists.

The fact is that the Liberal Party is corruptand that has been substantiated by the Public scndals that we has a Country have had to endure. So far I have not seen or, heard anything that cause me to vote liberal again I have not voted liberal for the last two or three terms. It seems that the more the liberal party demonizes the Conservative party they wind up in more scandals and difficulty themselves. the Conservatives are just pointing out the obvious and moving on with their own platform. I should 6hat the issue of seperatism in the Province of Quebec, was caused by the federal liberals not by the conservatives. and Pierre Elliotte Trudeau and Rene'Levesque were slugging it out long before it got this bad and God only knows who was going at it long before they got into the issue.
This Country is only a True country if we as Canadian Citizens are one Country That is what our Brave Men and Women Fought bled and gave their lives for in the many wars that this Nation has been involved in, and that especially goes for the Canadian Veterans from the Province of Quebec. They did not put their lives on the line just to watch this Nation fall apart.

Sorry anonymous, even Jack Layton yesterday essentially called the Liberal's "doom and gloom" scenario if Harper wins garbage. The sun will come up, medicare will survive and you might just save a few bucks when you go shopping...even if Paul Martin is your "hero". ;)
