CARETAKER AT 114 BRUNSWICK STREET TURNS OFF FURNACE!!!!

Picture 030

Yesterday, I bumped into the only tenant at 114 Brunswick Street.

The caretaker told him that the smoke bothers him and it brings on panic attacks!!!

Also the power bill was way too high.

So? To save money?

He shut down the furnace and gave the tenant an extra little heater.

Tonight, I bumped into the lonely tenant and he told me that the caretaker told him that smoking was not allowed in the building as of right now!!!

The poor guy has to smoke outside and he's a chain smoker.

The caretaker should have given the guy a warning lets say in the spring so he could move out!

But that's not the way it works in New Brunswick for roomers or boarders.

It's a new day so therefore there's a new rule!!!!

The worst thing about it???

There's no place to complain about their rights!!!

I would suggest Charles that you and he go to the Fredericton Anti-Poverty organization. Or and ask them to bring it up at a meeting when they have a forum on Homelessness and Low-income persons. Also, I am still waiting to hear from the emaill I sent to Brad Green. When I hear I of course will share his response with charles and he can blog it if he wishes to. This kind of crap of caretakers and land lords getting away with this kind of foolishness has got to be addressed and I mean right stinking now. All of this beurocracy and legislative assembly meetings and they can't find a way put everyone on the same page when it comes to a place to live. Get it together.

Well Mike? If the Government is defeated next month?

We will have to start all over again but I will handle that part.

Mr.Green told me that rights for boarders and roomers will be made law by June of this year!

Yes somethings don't seem fair and should be looked into. When it goes to smoking outdoors is where I wouldnot want you smoke. I'm not a smoker but I deliver mail and I've seen so many homes that have that thick yellow film and it smells really bad. I burn wood and have to paint every three years; so smoking also creates a problem that could be corrected by smoking outside. With the price of oil we burn some wood to keep our cost down; but I think if you add in the paint price I don't think we save much but it is a nicer long lasting heat.

Yes, but I"ve also heard the government won't last through April.

Smoking stains can also be prevented by adequate ventilation, how much would anybody like to bet that these houses don't have adequate ventilation and probably would fail any safety inspection (if they had them).

I believe the point in this blog was that the furnace was turned off????

I was the landlady at 114 Brunswick Street for years and my family for many years before that. My family and I were always good to all the roomers that lived in that house. All the roomers were treated like family, they respected me and I respected them.I had no rules for anyone that lived there, and no threat of eviction at anytime, the only thing I asked was that their rent was paid on time, and they all did that.I never had any problems with any of them.We all got along just fine. When I moved from 114 Brunswick Street three of my roomers moved out also, they didn't want to stay there because because of the new caretaker, nobody liked him.I got the new caretaker the job, what a mistake that was, I thought he would be good to the roomers, but all he did was abuse the people and evicted them for no reason,he was on a power trip. When i lived there no one went cold, the heat was always on. I guess now the caretaker has turned off the furnace and the one roomer that still lives there is very cold. That is disgusting how he is being treated and the landlord knows of all that has happend in that house and refuses to do anything about it, so that makes him just as bad as the caretaker.Roomers and boarders need to have rights just like everyone else. Slum landlords should be charged. You can't abuse a child and get away with it,and the same should apply to the roomers and boarders.

What really bothers me is what's going on around this Province that we don't know of???

That's the scary question????

Smokers are a huge burden to the health care industry and people like me, a non-smoker, cannot get care because all the beds are taken up by smokers. Willpower is the word.
As for the other stuff here, GET A JOB, I say, GET A JOB !!

I don't know about the law reform idea. Not too often that a law actually makes people's lives better. Maybe I'm just too cynical.

Me, I'd like to know the name of the guy who owns the house, and what other businesses he owns. I, for one, would like to make sure I don't support him. Ditto other slumlords. Power of the people, and all that.

As for expecting prompt replies to emails from a cabinet minister? They get hundreds of emails a day, so don't hold your breath. And by the way, Brad Green isn't responsible for the Residential Tenancies Act any more: Bruce Fitch is.

WOW, NO HEAT, THAT IS AGAINST THE LAW.....REPORT HIM TO SOCIAL SERVICES AS HEAT CAN NOT BE TURNED OF FROM NOVEMBER TO APRIL 1ST.......

This so called landlord doesn't care about the people that rent from him, he can't see past the dollar sign. He only cares about the money. He doesn't care about the people.I'm sure he wouldn't let his family live in the housing that he rents to the poor. He's no Robin Hood,Robin Hood took from the rich to give to the poor, this man steals from the poor and gets away with it.I don't know how he can look at himself in the mirror and feel good about himself. What goes around comes around, and his turn is coming,I'm sure of that.Roomers and boarders must have rights in New Brunswick.
