DOES ANYONE CARE IF THE PIPELINE GOES AHEAD IN ROCKWOOD PARK????

pipe, originally uploaded by Oldmaison.

Charles,

Yes I am one of those ones disgusted and I have been involved; called written, phoned, went to meetings, attended council for hours.

Where is everyone else? Ten of thousands is what we need!

Very disappointed in the people who don't join us and make a statement and not let the billionaires and politician make bargains with their wealthy friends.

Our Mayor seems to be enjoying himself on our dollar!

Most people in Saint John simply do not care. A few handfulls, are going to the meetings etc, and raving like a bunch of loonies, but for the most part who gives a crap?? It's going through following the power lines. That's the best route I can think of. Get over it people for christ sake.

For those few that don't want to live in an Industrial City??? MOVE!

Anonymous said...

Well said 12:53 PM

Saint John has always been a do nothing about it town, with the exception of a lot of coffee shop wind blowing.

People do a lot of complaining as you say by the Handfull, you'll never seee s full blown protest by the people.

Why, because they Do Not care despite all the Whining, Hooting and Hollering.

It's a done deal no matter what anybody thinks. I have enbridge gas coming into a house next door.

If their house ever goes up so does mine. Only option is, as you say, " MOVE "

As soon as we find another place in the Valley, " We're gone like Winter going into Spring "

Besides, the Weather sucks most of the time in Saint John especially in the Summer.

Maybe when tourists go on their Bus tours of the City during the Summer Months, the Fog will be in like it usually is, and nobody will see the Pipeline { lol }

Hi: i used to pick blueberries in rockwood park, where the rv´s are now parked. that was not an improvement. i used to cook on the woodstove in the main building, with free wood from inside the park. that is gone now, i believe. i used to camp on the cliff, looking over the city.
i am 51 years old, and have been in rockwood park for all of my life, when i lived in saint john, and when i return for a visit.
i have been involved in other fights over the use of rockwod park, and we have won most of them!!!
contrary to popular belief, rockwood park is not city property!!! it is not to be allowed to be used for any purpose other than untouched nature, schools and hospitals. period.
check out the act of parliament concerning the charles tupper trust. the terms are very strict, there is no room for any argument.
if the pipeline is such a good thing, put it underground along the streets of the city, whch are city property. use the railway line.
and ask someone to publicly state where the pipeline is to service3. why is there going to be a pipeline outside of the irving bayside properties in the first place?

secondly, how many irving properties are going to have gas furnaces and hot water heaters off of the proposed new pipeline? how many other people will have that same benefit?

for those who think that being concerned about the future for our families rockwood park is a legacy that must be kept.
for those who do not like others to complain and fight for their opinion and and disagree: kiss my rear end!
the world is too small to have small-minded self-appointed censors making policy for the rest of us.
keep your hands off the future, and the legacy for which we want to keep for the children of the future!

2:32 PM or Dave

Dave, I don't think you have the right to complain or say anything about the issue.

You used to live here once upon a time, not full time now I take it,if you're living in Mexico.

I think it's more Dangerous for Canadians to be in Mexico { if you've been following the News Lately, instead of eating Taco's,} than living in Saint John with a new gas pipe line.

Anonymous said...

You can 'think' what you want. If Dave's history is true he's done a hell of a lot more for the city than your poor apathetic ass. It's a free country and a free blog, so like he says, bite his newly tanned mexican ass!

If you haven't the balls or the intelligence to stand up, if all your pathetic outlook of the world can have you do is pull down your pants and bend over for 'the man', then take it somewhere else.

As was mentioned elsewhere, it is NOT a done deal, and at least people can get the pipeline to go around the park instead of through it. If it wasn't such a pathetic province maybe the people would stand up to Irving and Maritime gas. However, even if you stand up it's not like you'll get any media play, guess who owns the media?!

Yet at the very least people can come to this blog and get the TRUTH, and we certainly don't need the likes of the losers above polluting up the place with their whining. Their place is underneath JD's desk pleasing their massa.

Most people who are in agreement with this 30” high pressured (1,440) psig natural gas pipeline coming through our city must be brain washed or are just to afraid to speak up. This 30 inch EXPORT line that does not benefit the residents in Saint John we will not be using this gas it will be carrying to the US through this line. This line will running near my home and I do not want it in any residential area. There have been lots of explosions here are a few examples:

March 24, 2003 in Easton in Weld County.

The flames from the explosion shot as high as 500 feet in the air, The explosion originated from a 24-inch underground natural gas pipeline, and a spokesman for the Colorado Interstate Gas Company says it appears a pipeline failure caused the problem Fire investigators won't confirm that.
July 30, 2004 Belgium gas pipe explosion kills 15
A MASSIVE natural gas pipeline blast that could be felt six miles away killed at least 15 people and hurled bodies into a field near Brussels yesterday. Firefighters and police responding to a report of a leak were among the dead and about 200 other people were injured, officials said. The explosion in the industrial park in Ghislenghien, 20 miles south-east of the Belgian capital, happened after construction workers pierced an underground gas distribution line. The blast sent enormous orange flames billowing into the sky and shook the ground for miles around. The flames charred cars and wheat fields 500 yards away. Firefighters and police were among the casualties of this morning's blast in Belgium, which was caused by workmen fracturing an underground gas pipe

Gas pipeline explodes near Regina
Last Updated: Dec 8 2005 09:26 AM CST
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a natural gas explosion just outside of Regina
Thursday morning.
According to Regina fire department official Grant Nicurity, shortly after 9 a.m. there was an
explosion and fire when a TransGas pipeline ruptured. The line was close to a gas compressor
station.
For a short time, flames 30 metres high could be seen from downtown Regina. The gas was shut
off and the fire was quickly extinguished.
No one was injured.
Police cordoned off the area and were keeping people away from the site, about two kilometres
southwest of the city

NLNG pipeline explosion: 11 feared missing
• Wednesday, Aug 31, 2005

Eleven persons are feared missing and aquatic life completely destroyed when a 28-inch Liquefied Natural Gas underground pipeline exploded at Kalakama, an Ogoloma fishing community in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The incident, which occurred at the weekend, resulted in a wild inferno which engulfed an estimated 27 square kilometers of the once rich Kalakama mangrove, killing sea foods and cash crops.
So huge, the impact of the explosion was felt on the Okrika Island and the Borikiri area of Port Harcourt where, residents were forced into a stampede for safety.

Just type in the names and you can read the articles yourself. It’s not as safe as the pipeline companies want us to believe accidents really do happen! Search the net yourself there is allot more accidents. Why should the people in Saint John have to live with the dangers of a possible explosion??

Blogger Charles LeBlanc said...

I sent three email to Dave but no answer. He lives in the same City the murders happen.

You're a Taco Head 5:55 PM

We live with possible explosions every day here in Saint John, not to mention possible Radiation Leakage from down the road at the Point.

IT'S a done deal alright, you can't make a difference, the Letter to Charles was even from a person admitted his frustration from the Mass'es for not fighting harder.

As someone else said as well, Their moving out of the City, that's why I moved out to Quispamsis Last Summer, So I could finally see the Sun, as opposed to not seeing it in Stinky, Smelly Saint John :

Geeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

You know with all the bluster that is coming from the few,It amazes me that they think that a change will come without protest.Lets face it Saint Johners are afraid to get off of their fat arses and hit the streets to protest.

Irving knows that we are wimps and are happier to drone on about something as opposed to getting off our asses and protest.

We have to be visable. As far as I am concerned ,the people of Saint John are quite happy to accept what ever crap sandwitch that is offered to them by the Irving Empire. They are so used to being brow beat and used to being fed a healthy dose of Irving fear,no one will stand. We made a mistake of letting that arrogant family get too big a long time ago.now we are paying with the loss of this once great city.
It's very sad indeed.

Calgary is sure sounding good to me.Let Irving's have their little industrial wasteland. We should all move out.

Anonymous said...

You Know I really held out hope that when Harbour Passage went ahead and a new mayor and council were elected that we were finally on the move as a city.I knew we were behind the times but for 5 minutes I really thought that we were on the verge of a renaissence. That however has been dashed.

You don't hear much from the Water front Development guys anymore.I guess Irving didn't agree with their vision.

In the blink of an eye my eyes opened wide to the fact that Irving has complete controll of our Mayor and council, our Provincial polititians and our Legislature, esentially The Irvings have complete controll of our Democracy.

That LNG Tax deal was rammed through the Legislature like a fast moving TIM'S coffee(If you Know what I mean).

They controll our free press They have a psychological mind bend on our population. Our town should be called Springfield.

It makes me sick to stand back and witness the populace do nothing and be completly risigned to the fact that they are spineless and are robotic in their existence to the Irving Empire.

We say nothing when they(NEP) propose a huge pipeline through our city.Hell' If the Irving's said that they were going to store Nuclear weapons under the Kings Square Bandstand we would stand by and let them. But we would sure tell Rick Mantle about how mad we were about it

Anonymous said...

It's not a done deal and those who've invested materials and labour upfront and ahead of the NEB hearing better find a junkyard that will take it. It's not going into the ground in our city.

There are many people working behind the scenes against this "preferred" route. Sainr John has never pulled together like this before and I'm watching it happen.

I hope people have read the column in todays irving rag from the former editor,by far the best overview of the issuse.its about time that the rag has put forth a view different than the party line.mr chase is another story, wouldn't be suprised if irving has some dirt on him,he always seems to the irvirng way.as charles would say thank god for blogs.

Anonymous said...

Isn't it funny that you never hear how much the company in ns is paying for taxes or how they are dealing with thier town in our propaganda tabloid.I would hope that the Irvings would have more respect for this city and its citizens. It's funny how the almighty dollar and the power it affords makes some people idiots. As for norm ......what can you say?....when you see him in public DON'T be polite ,tell him what you think!!! He needs to be told on a regular basis what an assh.... he is,add chang, s chase, ferren, fergason, and white to that list

I change a word in the last comment...come on....lets be nice....merci

Anonymous said...

sorry charles....but the time to be nice to them ended when the mayor and council screwed us....irving looks at the city as his little fiefdom and what he says goes....SINK THE BLUE CANOE !...its time the citizens of saint john stopped buying anything from this piece of shat family!

Anonymous said...

look into my eyes and kiss my .......thats what i think of the irvings

i've talked to people in the media business aka cbc and they would love to do a story on this but they have no funding.i asked if the paper was not owned by the irvings if the coverage would be different and the answer was a resounding YES.we would have the whole story not the bits that irving wants us to have.this goes to the top...they also cover provincial news ......begs the question how twisted is that coverage?the council asked the city manager to look into this deal and the next day it was rammed through the legiwhen they had just said that it would be months.....something stinks in springfield mister burnsstrature

Does the engineering firm design the path. I suspect they do and then give it to the company to implement. People should be up in arms at Jacques Whitford.

Just yesterday I took my son for a day of winter sliding at Rockwood Park. We sat at the top of the hill and before we slid down we took a moment to listen to the sounds of nature all around us. We listened to the quiet and absorbed the beautiful place that is our park.

My son is six years old and my daughter is eight, they are well aware of what Maritime and North East Pipelines are trying to do. I am writing to represent their voices and to say NO to Maritime and Northeast pipelines, NO to the Irving Empire and No to Mayor McFarlane and his council.

Our park is not for sale.

The thing that saddens me the most is the fact that we live in a city that has no democracy. It seems to me that our elected officials have elected to represent big business instead of the people. It boggles ny mind that our citizens don't have the courage to stand and protect it.

It also saddens me to see our city, a city with such immense potential being bullied into silence by a company such as the Irving group of companies. A company that allegedly will quietly seek retribution over all who work for them if they dare open their mouths in opposition to them.

It saddens me to see a city willing to let a petroleum company dictate our future. Do you really want to be known as the Energy Hub? In a democracy Isn’t it the people who decide the fate of the society for which it lives.

It’s time to take back our city.

No one is listening to us on the outside because they really do not have the information on what’s going on.

Our story is a National story.
From the beginning to the end, the LNG tax deal to the Rockwood Park fiasco, this story has all the signs of conspiracy to keep conspiracy theorists busy.

The press in Canada should be all over this story. They are not, because the information is being suppressed. We are being suppressed by the fact that the Irving’s control every single English newspaper in the province. They conveniently purchased our only alternative news source Here Magazine just before the LNG story became a firestorm no pun intended .The fire storm is local. because we are being suppressed in the papers The Irving’s do not want the rest of Canada to know that they are controlling our democracy.

We must get the word out. The only way to do this is by physical protest. If there are 9.000 in opposition then 9000 must march in peaceful loud protest.
I urge you to write to the big news papers. The National Post, Write, email or call the Globe and mail. Write or call the CBC, CTV News rooms. Let’s make our voices heard. This story is a 5th estate documentary.

Lets fight back.

Our park is not a bargaining chip for big multinational companies.
Do you think for a minute that the citizens of Vancouver would let Maritime and Northeast Pipelines run a 30 inch Pipeline through Stanley Park? I say NO. Do you think for a second that the citizens of New York would let a company run a 30 inch natural gas Pipeline through central Park? I think not.

We must stand for the preservation of Rockwood Park If not for you then please do it for our children . Our Park is a nature preserve.Lets fight tooth and nail to preserve her.

Anonymous said...

It made me sick to watch Stephen Chase roll over in council in a weazel like posture attemting to sell out the park to the Pipeline gang.
people,How the hell do these guys sleep at night. How the hell do we sleep at night when we have the chance to fight this.Chances are we may wake up to the sounds of dynomite, as Northeast Pipelines tears a great wound through our park ,if we do nothing. It will be very very ugly and a dark chapter in our history if we let this happen.

The Irving's are like a giant malignant tumour that grew into a grotesque bohemouth of controll and supression over time.It grew so big that it shadowed us where ever we went untill it snuffed out our voices our democracy and eventually our city. That would be a great obituary for the death of a city.

These companies exploit all the time.

We are just another conquest ,another industrial meal to satisfy and fatten their glut. They want to eat us and discard our bones as the gas flows.

Lets take a stand.

Name me the time and place I will be there to stand for my city.If I fail I will move on.If I win I will revere my underdog my beloved Saint John

Take a walk in the park this weekend people.Watch the hikers the skaters and the nature.perhaps that will make you see what is at stake.Think aboutour neighbours in Redhead who are being spat on by the idustrial arrogance for a measly $550.00 an acre.WE have everything to lose and the Irving's will get much much richer.

We have the chance to tell our Grandkids that we fought a giant, and saved a town.

Anonymous said...

Isn't it crazy that the citizens that work for Irving are quite happy to let their employer dictate how their lives are going to be played out. That they know he is the feudal lord and will let their morals be compromised if the Irvings say so.

I know that there are a lot of people out there that count on Irving jobs for their livlihood.
Wouldn't it be great If some stroke of magic happened and they all stood up and protested what was going on.

I thought that we could have a Balaclava protest where thousands come out wearing Balaclavas to protest the Irving empire.

Irving employees as well as everyone else would cover their faces so that Irving couldn't tell who the protesting employees were and they could keep their jobs LOL.

I guess then Irving would say we were terrorist in his Family subjective Newspaper

I want to let people know where aprox. the proposed pipeline will run. I read that some people have no problem with the pipeline well I do it will be in my community and I do not want it here to put my family in danger for large companies or the US.

The 30 inch pipeline route would be buried at aprox. 3 feet deep

Pipeline Route the best we can figure from the information that the company gave a few months ago. We think we are pretty close to there proposed route

From the LNG terminal near Mispec in the east

It will cross Black River Road near the correctional center.

Then swing north crossing Grandview Ave.

Then will head northwest between the Irving refinery and Champlain heights.

At Loch Lomand Road near the entrance of the oil refinery will cross and continue northwest direction to cross Westmorland Road between the two cemeteries St.Joseph and Furnhill.

Then proceed down over the hill and cross Rothesay Ave in the vicinity Mackie lumber and stresscon, under marsh creak flood plain (environmentally sensitive area)

From here it will cross the Saint John throughway up into Rockwood park then it will exit at Peacocks flower shop on Sandy Point Road will head up over the hill on a westerly direction, and cross Samuel Davis Drive.

Think about this!!!! About 1/3 or ½ mile from our Hospital-University- about the same distance from Hazen White Saint Francis School on Sandy Point Road.

(Any natural gas fire from a 30 inch pipeline could have horrendous consequences).

Then west over Summer Street extension behind the superstore then out to Milledge Ave near Boreshead Road turning south running parallel with Milledge Ave to Belleview Ave then to Shamrock Park then down Sparcove Road then out to the Saint John River.

The line will cross under the water just above the reversing falls and cross over to pleasant point in Milford then continue up Milford Road area crossing Greenhead Road.

(It will cut off Randolph, Milford, and Dominion Park residents from the rest of the city.) This community has only one entrance in and out.

From there it will follow westerly on Dever road to the north side and crossing near the underpass on Bay Street side at the end of Manchester Ave.

Then takes a south westerly course crossing the pipeline road veering south but west of West Gate Park

Then crosses Manawagonish Road southeast of the intersection of the Gault road and Oceanwest way then takes a south-westerly direction down over the hill on to the saint john thruway west toward spruce lake to route 1 then to the Maine boarder

Construction: clearing 100 feet wide corridor. Rock is limestone, blasting will happen constantly that is what we have to look forward to....

Hi Charles.

I heard you on talk of the town stating that you had a blog on this very issue.

I see that the people are starting to respond.

We really need to make this blog the official place for people to go and get their opinions heard on the pipeline issue.

I think that you need to call Andrew Krystal on 88.9 on the
Friday Free-for-all and get the Blog address out to the people who are listening to his show.
I have emailed him and if others put the bug in his ear maybe we can make this a national story.I would think the Irvings would hate that.

I am telling everyone I know about Charles Leblanc ADHD.

By the way I am certaion that I am ADHD.LOL

I think you really need to talk to Rick Mantle again this week and stress to people to log on and blog.
Especially the friends of rockwood park.Where are they?

Thanks for the site. This could be the single most important thing that we fight for.

Our city is in Danger from Multinational exploitation. There are no two ways about it.

Good job Charles.

You know ,I love my town. it was always the underdog of the Maritimes. There are really good people here.
.I was always holding out hope and believing it could be something great someday ,unlike yourself who just dismisses it as a (stink hole) and in turn show your shallowness in saying as long as it doesn't affect you.

.For one reason no one will stand up and be counted when it comes to defending anything in this city.Rant and rave but no action.

I was born and raised here on the streets of Saint John.I was not raised in the Suburbs.I think that Saint John is a really beautiful city.
The problem is, it made a mistake a long time ago by letting the Irving's monopolize the business secter to such a severe degree that no other company would atempt to invest here.Economic diversity just doesn't exist here.Thats why we are in trouble.

25% poverty rate. The highest in the country.

I know, you live in Rothesay,It is a different world out there. So, why don't you stay there dude?

Yeah Rothesay is ok If you want to live in a hoity toity plasticene, gritless existence.I'll take stinky streets and culture thanks.Dont think for a second that whatever happens to this city wont have an affect on you.

Oh by the way,Don't the Irving's live in rothesay.I'll stick with the real people.

10:46 Pm - Rothesay and the Quispamsis Area are more than just OK. It's Heaven to live out here, compared to the so-called, Stinky, Smelly, Polluted City of Saint John.

The people of Saint John should just get used to the realistic idea, all Saint John is good for, is for the laying down of Fuel Pipelines. East Saint John always has had Fuel Pipelines in that area.

Rockwood Park can't even provide proper Security for the Camp Ground in the Summer Time. There have been numerous Newspaper Stories about tourists having their Tents and Trailers broken into, during the Tourist Season.

So, the logical thing to do is close it down. And how can you call it a Camp Ground with no grassy fields, and only Crushed Gravel on the Ground.

Years back, there was a Water Slide there, the people didn't support it, and it Died. Of course then again, who want's to use a Water Slide in the FOG !

You just wait and see, It's a done deal that the Pipeline will be going through the Park.

And there's no group around here that can keep the Irvings, and their Gas Business Counterparts from putting it where they want to.

Better in Saint John however, than out here. The only Culture there is in Saint John, is the Culture we out this way, bring into the City.

Hi: this is david from mexico, not eating tacos, and not paying much
attention to "news" from anywhere.

To the person who thinks that because i now live somewhere else that i am no longer entitled to an opinion: pray that i do not
come back to saint john!!!

I have a history, and i have skills that are very usefull in this kind of problem. perhaps you remember 58 to 0? i was there, and i was in sussex 2 years later, at the convention. look me up, or ask at
the cbc about me.

If you can not do that, or will not do that, then you deserve all
the crap that is going to fall on your head!!!

Read the regulations and history
of rockwood park, and check out the minutesof city council, especially
during the fisher lake time.

(and by the way, did you vote for elsie´s elephant?) and when was the last time you performed or even attended a function at the
capitol theatre?

On the subject of mexico, you are as woefully uninformed as to the
conditions of living here as you are about the rockwood park problem. this place is safer and more comfortable than where you live, and my daughter goes to private
school, in a class of 14 students, for 75.00cdn per month.

For a better education than she would get up there, and in 2 languages.

To top it all off, i work 20 hour days, with no time off, no
vacations, no health care plan, no dental plan, no unemployment insurance, no welfare, and no
government contracts. just work, pay the bills and pray bad things do
not happen.

But they do anyway, so you deal with them.

Where i live we have hurricanes that destroy entire cities and
livelihoods in 12 hours or less.

The town i am in now has never recovered from a hurricane in
1988!! and beer is 1.00cdn a bottle!!

A veritable king´s ransom in
local income.

Please learn about the subjects of which you wish to speak, lest the
world recognize you for a fool.
back to rockwood park: do you remember the paddle boats in lily lake?

Why are they not there any more? what happened to the bears in the cages in rockwood park?

Did you know that there were (and still are, as far as i know) animal
cages in the park?

There are a lot of other thingsi could tell you about saintjohn,
and living in clean air, and friendly people surrounding you.

All of which used to be in
saint john. i sincerely hope that you are not representative of the
citizens of saint john, for then i would be forced to regret that i had anything to do with you.

and to charles: keep up the good work, keep agitating the snivelling
serpents and the other people who want to destroy the ability of others to think for themselves.

I like the blog, and i hoe it will continue to be as informative
and entertaining as it is now. including the idiot who wants to live in a cardboard box in a parking lot, which was formerly known as rockwood park.!!

keep on having fun, and try to come visit my nice warm beach, with the
gourmet meals served with properly servile wait staff. not to mention that seafood is only 150 feet away on the beach, fresh off the boats of the fishermen.

(2.00cdn
for about 5 lbs! of grouper or red snapper).
and we are up-to-date with the technology, i have wireless internet in the hotel, and any other thing you need to keep up with the world, if you want to.

david, from the beach in mexico
