BABARA FRUM SAID IN THE LATE 80S - ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL ME THAT THE BAY OF FUNDY IS THE BIGGEST TOILET IN THE WORLD???

frumbarbara, originally uploaded by Oldmaison.

I'll never forget that statement and this was in the late 80s!!!

She died in 1992.

It was in the newscast- The Journal!!

Look at us now?

It's the year 2006 and we're still the only City in Canada who dumps millions of gallons of raw sewage in the Bay of Fundy a day?

Why do we always helped other countries with millions of dollars but we cannot help our own?

To be fair, Saint John is the ONLY city on the bay of fundy, unless you think of Digby as a city-and it isn't. Actually, most cities on the coast in Canada dump their raw sewage right into the ocean. I really get a kick out of canadians when they talk with smug superiority about being the best country in the world. Come on! We are despicable.

It came out the wrong way....you other other cities does the same? They dump ra sewage in the oceans, lakes and anywhere else???

If that is indeed the sase then we all very very to have the Bay of Fundy as a toilet.

I don't think it's true that other Canadian cities dump untreated sewage into the ocean.

Go to Halifax then, then go to St.Johns. Same story. At least there's gets washed into the open ocean. With the lowest tides in the world that makes St. John EXTRA disgusting. Victoria dumps 45 billion litres of raw sewage each year. And don't forget the cruise ships, they usually use harbours to dump as well. St.Johns Newfoundland is especially disgusting, the city is essentially afloat in its own sewage.

In PEI over half of the homes have septic beds, Charlottetown treats its sewage but last fall millions of gallons of raw sewage went into the harbour when updates to the sytem were taking place.

In Halifax they 'maintain' that no untreated sewage gets pumped in, however, do some research and you'll quickly find that sewage treatment is very hush hush and it's next to impossible to get any information on it. Trucks were supposedly taking solid waste away, yet that hasn't been shown to be true.

One thing that's interesting is the maritimes hasn't 'caught up' with the rest of Canada, particularly southern ontario, where treated human waste is used as fertilizer for forage crops and along roadways. The rest of Canada, of course, hasn't caught up to europe in using it for the above purposes, and it is actually used on food production-which was found to cause HUGE medical problems in europe, which is why they stopped it. Here, well, lets face it, we count about as much as the fish in the saint john harbour.
