FREDERICTON POLICE FORCES CRACKING DOWN ON THE POOR!!!!

STA_3208, originally uploaded by Oldmaison.

It doesn't matter if you play a guitar on the streets and just sitting there with a cup asking for money.

I tried to get a picture of the Police ordering these poor people out from the streets but no luck yet.

The Farmer's Market is open today and I wonder what happen there??? Stay tune!!!!

So the average person should have to put up with being harassed by aggressive panhandlers and downtown businesses should have to tolerate customers avoiding their stores when bums are begging for money by their front doors? I'm glad the police are finally doing something about it.

For 12:30pm, there's no such thing as a bum, unless you are talking about your a*s, and I don't mean donky. These PEOPLE are human beings just like you, they have fallen on hard times.I think if welfare gave these people more money to live on they wouldn't have to go to the streets to ask for money. Welfare says you are allowed to earn so much money per month, I don't believe that for one second. One person said they went around picking up bottles to make a little extra money to get by on, and their worker told this person they have to tell their worker how much money they got and when they do that the worker takes that little bit of money off their cheques, so they never get ahead. When you are on welfare you are treated like garbage. How lucky you are that you aren't on welfare. But you should never say never, because you could be some day.How would YOU like to be treated?

I think you need to read a dictionary.

bum: one who sponges off others and avoids work

Increasing the amount of money for recipients would make their lives easier but it would certainly be no incentive for anyone to try to better themselves, to try to become more educated, to try to become self-sufficient and not rely on hand-outs from government and beg for freebies from people who do work for a living.

If the front door of a business is plagued by vagrants, beggars and paupers (do you like those synonyms better?) pestering paying customers, how long do you think that business will remain open if people don't want to be constantly hit up for money? If a store closes, that puts people out of work and the government gets less taxdollars which are used on social services.

There are numerous organizations who cater to the needs of the poor. Salvation Army, soup kitchens, food banks, shelters, church groups - where do you think their money comes from? The public funds them.

If what you say is true, that these people have to claim any money earned (i.e. bottle collecting) to their case workers, are the people begging for money in the streets, reporting that income as well? If so, and that money is deducted from their cheques, what's the point of begging?

I laughed my butt off when I read 4:21 p.m. I agree totally with what he/she is saying. I'm still laughing because I can just hear it now. A panhandler going into welfare to report to his worker how much money he made today outside the Liquor Store! HA!
