ACADIEN BUS LINE IS TO BLAME FOR THE CLOSURE OF THE FERRY SERVICE BETWEEN SAINT JOHN AND DIGBY!!!

Acadia

Last weekend, I bumped into a tourist from Scotland. The woman told me that Acadian Bus line is to blame for the lost of the ferry service between Saint John and Digby.

I was told the schedule don’t match with the departures of the ferry from both Cities.

I have been told they have to wait 3 to 4 hours for a ferry.

This is reason the Ferry is going to shut down!!!

What do you expect from a company who’s headquarters is from Quebec????

I guess the former owners - The irvings weren't that bad?

That may be part of it, just like the gas tanker scenario might be part of it. The main reason is simply what they state-it was losing money.

The question is -why was it losing money, and could it have been turned around?

Keep in mind that once its gone its gone, companies lose money in successive years all the time, in fact, the lumber company in Miramichi states it always loses money. Whether you believe that or not,the point is that times can change but it will be next to impossible, even if tourism started up again, to buy a new ferry.

The main reason they had no customers was the horrendous amount of money they were charging. Had it been even remotely close to gas prices from Nova Scotia to NB, then people would have taken it. The cost was EIGHT times the price of gas, meaning it would be crazy to take the ferry if you could drive. Once the highway was fixed up then it became even easier.

Actually, the ferry service should have been expanded. This shows just why the 'Atlantica' proposal won't work-we are four very different provinces. Even areas within provinces won't make even the slightest sacrifice for the more destitute areas. If we were one 'union', then we would see the ferries working together, perhaps getting 'the cat' to come to NB once a day or even once a week.

This is a sore blow and I'm surprised that New Brunswickers aren't more up in arms. Things are literally so bad in the province that people simply expect bad news and take it on the chin. Even in Saint John we hardly hear about it, and I suppose that can be attributed to Irving. If they can run a ferry service between Nova Scotia and PEI, then I fail to see why one can't work in NB. Particularly when you even saw many trucks using the service.

Face it people, New Brunswick is a dying province and this is another nail in the coffin. The only happy people are the few millionaires and billionaires that are present in every dysfunctional economy.

That's pretty funny, but if you own a lot worth 700,000 then no doubt life is good-unless of course its in Saint John since what you're breathing is killing you.

The roads in NB aren't nearly as good as the roads in Ontario. If its so great how come everybody is leaving? In ontario and alberta immigration is rampant, especially maritime immigrants. In New Brunswick, the average family that is working only makes 60% what a family in ontario makes.

In rural NB its even worse, unemployment at nearly 50% in some places. People on welfare get almost nothing and are arrested if they even try to beg for a little more. Roomers have no rights yet, people are banned for doing nothing except asking questions.

The province is owned by the Irvings, heck, even the Atlantica people know the area is a shipwreck.

Economic growth is stagnating except for one commodity. The only jobs available are minimum wage jobs, university tuition is among the highest in the country while its quality is questionable.

But like many New Brunswickers, the above poster probably has never even been outside the province, and certainly doesn't read anything but the Irving press. Now the ferry is going, they are again attempting to privatize energy, and this is all good news?

Even the trans canada highway, which is only ten years old is already a piece of swiss cheese. Secondary highways in Quebec and Nova Scotia are better than them.

What exactly would make Lord the 'best Premier ever' is certainly questionable. Even economists and economic developers think he's an absolute idiot. THe government didn't even try to get RIM to open a department here, instead they will hire thousands in Nova Scotia.

So whether Lord is even a 'decent' Premier is open to debate. The above points about roads, etc., wouldn't reflect on Lord anyway, since he didn't do ANY of them.

So go back and tell your boss you did his bidding and made your plug, the people aren't buying it.
