But if he stays? The next election will be in October 2007.

To make matter worst? Bernard Lord said that he’ll visit the Lieutenant Governor on August 19 asking for a election.

This is getting more confusing that the Tanker issue!

STB_0768

He should have shown leadership and look directly at the camera and say- WE’RE GOING TO HAVE AN ELECTION!!!!

Poor Bernard, he hasn’t been the same since the by-election in Saint John.

Thank God that he lost that one!!!

Bernard looked very tired today and I believe that he knows that the end is near.

He did save face by going into a election before the pensions kicks in.

By following this action, he won’t have that dirt on the campaign trail. He did do something right.

Hey maybe like Tanker Malley??? He'll change his mind AGAIN????

I believe that he truly understand that the ned is near.

I heard around 4 weeks ago that he was going to do this but only blogged the story last week. You could say that I did beat the Irving paper to the punch....lol..

NEWSFLASH! You can't call an election by looking into the camera. Next, if he would have visited the LT Gov, the election would have had to been on Sept 11. No party would want that since it is very tasteless.

Understood. But he must not have these stupid "if" and "buts". If Mesheau resigns. By Friday if he finds out that he has another drop in ratings he may change his mind. The man is a hopeless coward and Mr. Dither.

Sooner he goes better for NB. There is a need to start the repairs to the damages he has caused over 7 years. What were NBers thinking to elect this maroon?

If he was to show leadership then he'd have the balls to stick it out til the Liberals forced the election. I don't think NBers want to pay any more for quick elections than at the federal level. That way, it would be the liberals fault, and clear that they couldn't even work with the government for a short time.

This just shows what many already suspect, that politicians are a bunch of malcontents that don't even care enough about New Brunswick to put their viciousness aside and work together. We don't see Stephen Harper saying "well, its a minority so I guess I'll call an election" and we didn't see Paul Martin do it either.

Every country in the democratic world functions with a minority government, and this guy states that he's all for proportional representation, yet won't even face the prospect of a minority government.

That is where he loses face, as a hypocrite.

This should be a new campaign slogan for the people of those twenty ridings (too bad Mesheau wasn't one of them), vote against their incumbents and New Brunswick will save hundreds of thousands of dollars!

You are messing up the discussion through this approval stuff. For once have some sense.

Everybody with an ounce of sense knew there was going to be an election - sooner, rather than later. Why else would the Premier be spreading money around the province?

5:47 PM you are so right. I hope NBers will not be fooled by Bernie this time.

Okay now you guys don't want an election?!? The anonymous posters have been clamouring for an election here for the past year and now that one is here, you don't want it?!? Folks, make up your mind.

Frankly this telling reporters when he will call it is unprecedented but pretty smart. Show me a provincial election in the past 20 years which was a true surprise. There haven't been any because it's known even if the premier at the time won't confirm it. Lord didn't want to get asked every day for a week when the election was so he came out and stated it. Otherwise, as the above stated, we'd be looking at 9/11...and that would have opened a whole other can of worms.
