Sorry....I didn’t have time to write about this emotional issue sooner.

Hats off to the citizens of Grand Manan.

These Islanders decided last week that the drug problem was destroying their way of lives and they said enough is enough! They gathered together and burned down a home that was suspected of selling drugs to their youths.

Now? You must understand what’s really going on here.

I forewarned the politicians 6 years ago that dilaudid was becoming a major problem in the Saint John Area.

The Bernard Lord Government totally ignored this issue.

These poor souls who got addicted to Dilaudid were in big trouble.
These drugs are prescribed by the doctors so therefore they’re legal.

There was no methadone clinics and Bernard Lord refuse to give money towards this issue.

What do these people do?

They lower themselves to commit crimes to support their drug habit.

You used to have to travel to Moncton or Cambridge Narrows to get the methadone.

Now, we know these people don’t have a car so what are they suppose to do?

Lets go back to the area of Grand Manan for a minute.

The program CBC The Fifth Estate did a story on the area 5 years ago. They called the Dilaudid Hillbilly heroine.

Charlotte County has a major drug problem.

I told Rick Doucet that the Pharmacist refuses to give out methadone for the addicts in that county.

If the addicted individual wish to be on Methadone?

They have to travel to Saint John every single day! Many of them just decided to continue to do the drug.

Oxy-Contin is a major seller in that area.

Charlotte County has no place to get their methadone so the drug trade continue to make big bucks.

Can you imagine living on a Island such as Grand Manan?

The addcited soul will rob the Island blind to get their fix.

There’s no way in the world that these people will travel to Saint John every day to get their methadone.

I don’t blame to people of Grand Manan to take the law into their own hands because the Bernard Lord Government sure don’t care about the drug problem in this province.

It’s because of Bernard Lord that Prescription drug is totally out of control!

Good for the people of Grand Manan and if the Government continues to ignore them?

Do it again and make sure that your youths are not screwed for life because of Dilaudid!

Bernard Lord should be ashame of himself.

Well genius, what do they do now that they have no supplier? You think they will now wake up and say 'well I guess I'll have to stop'. Not likely.

Not to mention that we don't know whether this was actually the place, maybe somebody just thought it was where the drugs were. Some guy might have been pissed off at a neighbour.

So now some other poor person on the island will try to get the drugs, or else all the addicts and users will now flock to Saint John and the island's population will plummet.

Drug dealing is just like bootlegging was last century, it is the 'industry of last resort'. If you want to stay in the area you love where there are no opportunities, you turn to drugs. To my mind there is a huge difference between pot and needle drugs. If they were selling pot from the house it would be the same as about 10 percent of the homes in the country.

If the people wanted to stop what was happening, they could have done surveillance and got evidence that this is what was going on.

"They gathered together and burned down a home that was suspected of selling drugs to their youths. "

This is vigelante justice and sets a dangerouse precedance if charges are not laid by the RCMP. You are innocent until proven guilty by the evidence.

I certainly sympathize with the people of Gran Manan, but if you had evidence go see the RCMP or at the very least talk to your MLA.

Of all people Charles, you should appreciate the fact that we live in a society where you have priveledge to be heard by the courts. If we do not follow the rules we will quickly result in becoming no better then the Taliban.

What's next? I don't like my neighbor's stand on abortion so let's vandalize his home... Come on, are we that backwards in NB?

Everywhere has a major drug problem and I doubt Grand Manan is any worse or better than anywhere else. 1:58 is right, we don't know the whole story there and it's tough to figure out fact from the rhetoric, much like the comment that this is all Bernard Lord's fault.

Give me a break.

As one of the officers at last night's meeting was quoted, "stop buying the stuff and the supply will wither." Grand Mananers have a responsibility too and it's not to act like hoodlums and start torching things and opening gunfire. At that point, you become no better than the pond scum dealers. Give the police the information and push politicians to make tougher laws to punich drug dealers.

Sure is easy to tell the druggies not to buy iy eh???

The Lord Government should be there with Methadone or other needs for that area.

Yes, Bernard lord is to blame for ignoring the drug problem in this province.

Look what he did with the Ritalin issue?

Nothing!!!!

I rest my case....< Heeyyyyy getting ready for the court date! >

When will people in this province accept responsibility for their actions? Come on people, wake up! If you that bored that you need to take hillbilly drugs, then move and fast!

The war on drugs has been taking place for years so you might as well include the names of Chretien, Mulroner, reagan, Bush and Clinton along with Lord.

This situation is alot bigger then just taking drugs. People have been cornered and so much more is going on. Yes they need help and taking down people who tried to help is not what will make things better. About time someone state the true facts miilions or billions are made on the lives of young people.

"Hats off" to vigilantes? I strongly disagree. I don't want to live in a country where it's Mob Rule.

Sometimes it takes action like this to wake up people who should be monitoring what gets on the island. I guess we havenot advanced in the 2006 times are still back in the 50's.

Ordinary people cam only do so much. Someone is turning a blind eye to what is happening.

Come on we know there addicts but this island needs to be monitored. You get on the Ferry it is time to check baggages and parcels. Why wait until an explosive or who knows what their brains are capable of doing.
