To Whom It Concerns:

I would like to register my disappointment, shock and anger at your decision to cancel "Talk of the Town" from the
airwaves of CFBC.

This program was providing a very valuable service to the people of the Saint John area (and beyond to the rest of
Southwestern New Brunswick and valley in Nova Scotia.) Criticized as a "one topic" program (i.e. the LNG Plant in
Saint John); this is actually untrue as other matters were handled very well by the host, Rick Mantle. Sure the LNG
plant was a major item but what about the tax incentives to the rich Corporations; the pipeline that will soon (now with
NO opposition on the airwaves) go through one of Canada's most beautiful city parks; the Saint John "comedy council";
the plight of the poor and homeless in Saint John; election coverage, discussions with the candidates and issues
(how timely would this have been right now!); special fund raisers; and last but not least, the fun and festivities at
Christmas time?
Sure, some of the same people called day in and out however, many 1st timers could also be heard calling in.
The one great fear in this area (that of the monopoly that the Irving empire has in the newspaper industry) will certainly
be more realized and I would like to chastise you if this was the reason to cancel your talk show?

You have made it much easier for me to listen to my radio at work and at home because "Talk of the Town" was the only
consistent time that I tuned into CFBC and now with that gone, I can now choose between the other 10 radio stations
in the Saint John area. An example, if I want to hear a talk show, would be Andrew Crystal and Tom Young on
News 88.9.

Shame on you Maritime Broadcasting System!

I agree I loved Talk Of The Town and I miss it a lot. But once again Irving got his way and the people of Saint John lost again

The only voice the people had in Saint John, has been silenced. Some people have said that TOTT was too contrversial, or they had too many open shows, or the same people called everyday, or that they didn't like Rick Mantle, some say that Rick spent too much time harping about the Irvings and city council but TOTT was the only place average citizens could speak up and express their opinion. Sure there still are letters to the editor, but they are filtered by the paper, CBC or the other TV and radio stations won't touch anything too contreversial. true a lot was said on TOTT about the LNG deal, and the proposal to run the LNG pipeline under the city, but these were topics that were important to a lot of people. It would seem to me that the big guys got to maritime brodcasting, or maritime brodcasting decided to be 'politicaly correct" and not step on anyones toes. I never called TOTT, but used to be a faithfull listener. Whatever the reason TOTT is no longer on the air, I don't know for sure, but I do know one of our basic rights The Freedom of Speech, and the most popular venues for it , and an insitution in Saint John is no more. Have some balls Maritime Brodcasting and put TOTT back on the air.

Gossip goes along way but I believe the only reason is "They" ( that can be the people who pay the bills or the sponsors or ######) did not want people to have a voice on serious issues.
Terry was my favorite but that is not the issue.

A Lawyer from Halifax owns CFBC; but I question who really owns or backs it or has the say. Radio Station giving people a voice took Talk of The Town away and what an Irony that is. Without a voice there would not be a Talk Show. Saint John, the citizens lost alot.
What a way to Thamk people who over forty years always listened or called. Integrity is a loss virtue.

Rick Mantle has had his neck out there and now has been cut down to five hours a week. Disgraceful when it is known he did a great job and certainly has an excellent voice for radio.

Our loss but someelses gain.

Higher up calls the shots and a day will come the truth will be known.

Finally when people have the heart to speak up they take it and smother the show.

We will find ways to get news out. No air wave, or TV and certainly not any newspaper in NB will print to inform the people; just print to slant what they want us to know or think.

Thank you to all who care and stay strong and don't give up.
