You often hear the word- Bullying!!!!

Everyone believes it begins in the classrooms and ends up in the hallways of our schools or on the playgrounds.

Well? I got news for ya!!!

The school bus is the worst place for bullying and TRUST ME!!!! I got the past experiences to prove it.

Anyone who knows me for a long time truly knows that I had my share of fistfights at Schools.

They would confront me and thank God that I had the seize to fight back.

Lets not forget that I had ADHD < No one knew about it in those days >

After a fight, I would feel so relax. All that hypertension was all gone. I might add that being half Scottish didn’t help the situation....lol

You could punch a Scotsman in the head and they would just look at you with a smile.

Ok..never mind that....

I remember the ride in the school bus was my worst nightmare.

I sat in the back and a couple of weeks later, I would be ordered to sit up front so the bus driver could keep an eye on me.

I would have fights after fights. Every year, I would end up sitting up front.

But it would not solve the problem in hand because word of mouth is worst than a physical confrontation.

The kids would shout names and I would asked the bus driver if he heard what they said?

Then I would label as a RAT!!!

The part that drove me nuts is that I felt degraded to sit in front of the bus.

What a way to start my day and I wasn't even in my classroom yet???

I never like to sit down in front of the class or the bus. It was very difficult mentally wise!!!

It’s like the cartoon of the Flintstones?

fred

Remember the time Fred applied for a job as a bus driver? He walked in a coffee and slam the door. The bus drivers jumped off their stool....lol...

All the bus drivers nerves were shot!!!

The driver has to concentrate on the road and also has to act like a referee.

I understand we don’t have the extra money but there should be an assistant in a trouble bus.

These kids are cruel and I know of one case in today’s world that the ride to school is a true nightmare.

I truly understand the kid anguish because I went through the same situation 30 years ago!!!

Sounds like the situation has not change much after all these years!!!!

Interesting topic Charles! Coincidentally, my 10 yr old daughter came home from school last week to tell me they had gotten a brand new school bus. On this school bus, surveillance cameras! Looks like the school board is taking bullying seriously after all!

ahh they've had cameras on buses for 7 or 8 years now, I think the cameras are more for kids misbehaving, throwing stuff, so on. It would be really hard to pick out kids pickin on others because sometimes they sit in the same seat. The cameras are positioned in the front, and can't see inside the seats.

When children are violent and disruptive as Charles clearly admits he was at that age, it is safer for everyone when a child like that sits up at the front of the bus where he/she can be monitored. Degrading? Well, if a kid beat up another kid, feeling "degraded" certainly doesn't hurt as much as that punch to the face.

Yes bullying has gotten worse not better. It is done in many small ways and alot more hidden then we know. Terrible when you should be enjoying the experience of going to school when everyday is dreaded and no one really understands. When you speak out everyone knows and it does get worse. You have to speak up but before things will ever improve more people have to care. So many people group off and think it is harmless as long noone bothers them or their friends. We all hurt no matter what happens; we all have feelings and some don't have the skills to standup or speak out. Plaese if one thing we can do is try and more involved and as parents before they start have them respect all people of all walks of life. Life could be so much easier but anger and hatred is spreading more amd more.

7:08am: Since you're throwing insults around, I'm wondering if maybe you're one of those parents of bullies and see nothing wrong with it. If a child beats up another child, there MUST be consequences. If forcing the aggressor to sit in a front seat of a school bus is the punishment, it pales in comparison to what that bully did to his victim. It's assinine for a bully/violent child to complain "Boo hoo, I feel so degraded having to sit in this seat." after BEATING another child. We're talking about an actual crime that has been committed - physical abuse of another person. If the only punishment is sitting in a seat, the bully is lucky and it's definitely not an effective deterrent.
