SAINT JOHN, NB - The National Energy Board opens public hearings today into an application to build a natural gas pipeline through Saint john to the United States.
One after another, names were called confirming the list of registered interveners for hearings scheduled to last until November 20th.

Those in support of the pipeline are warning that if plans do not go ahead, future projects like a possible second oil refinery, or a liquefied natural gas terminal currently under construction could be compromised.

Meanwhile, Saint John city councilor Ivan Court says for those opposed, this is a health and safety issue...

"This pipeline is causing a lot of stress on a lot of those people. I suggest the fear factor, the unknown..and we have to alleviate some of that fear." Court said.

Sitting hours for week one begin at 1pm daily through Saturday, with no hearing scheduled on Sunday.

I said it before and I'll say it again The Irving Companies do nothing on Spec. they have been buying up land for a new refinary then there will be a new refinery. that foolishness with the tax break and Norm,if Norm had said the city wanted double the tax irving would have hollored but in the end they would have paid it. If the project isnt viable it won't go ahead.
