While in Saint John a few weeks ago, I was over at Tim Smith’s place for a few days and after so many interviews and talking on the phone for hours.

I decided that I did indeed have enough and went for a nice walk. I walked all the way to Glen Falls in East Saint John.

I enjoy walking in that area. I made a stopover at the FernHill Cemetery. This is < in my view > the most beautiful cemetery in New Brunswick.

I feel sad while walking in that cemetery because it truly shows you how life is indeed a short ride.

Our ancestors were very intelligent to locate the cemetery in that area. < I’ll get to that later >

I ended up on Westmorland Road and MY GOD WHAT A RACKET!!! Machines and men working building new stores in East Saint John.

Pictures 495Pictures 496

This area has sure grown since I left the area around three years ago.

I noticed two nice homes near the expansion.

Pictures 492

I decided to visit the house which is located right next to the new development.

Pictures 493

I knocked at the door and the guy came out and said - Hello Charles!!!

I didn’t know the guy but he used to work at the shipyard. His name is Gary or Gerry! < I forgot >

I’ll call him Gary! I asked Gary if he was sad of all the new stores coming right near his home?

It didn’t bother him one bit. Now? You would believe that the stores were bad enough right?

Of course not!

The new propose Natural Pipe Line will go right near his place.

Pictures 503

Gary is going to be surrounded by the new huge stores and the Pipeline.

As he said - SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!!

With the proper price? He’ll leave the area in a minute.

He showed me where the pipeline is going to be located.

Pictures 498Pictures 499

I hope that he doesn't smoke beside the pipeline?.....lol

Once there, his next door neighbor showed up. < I forgot her name? > I better start bringing paper and pen with me because I’m getting old!!...lol..

Pictures 505Pictures 506

The woman lives in a nice home but she’s very concern of the pipeline going right near her home.

Pictures 502

Gary used to enjoy his nice little fireplace in his backyard surrounded by trees but those days are gone forever.

Where else can you enjoy a nice fire with a few beers while there’s machineries are all over the place?

Pictures 507

That area is growing very quickly and thank God the FernHill Cemetery is located in the area because industries would have truly destroyed all the trees in East Saint John.

Our ancestors sure knew what they were doing eh?

Pictures 482

The buck stop right there but then again the Pipeline will be built was close to the cemetery.

Pictures 494

I wonder if the people are going to make sure there’s nobody buried in that area?

Take a look at this one?

Pictures 484Pictures 486Pictures 487Pictures 488

I found this near the cemetery in the woods. It’s sad because those people who are buried here are truly forgotten maybe there are more in that area? Who knows truly knows?

Yes, I’m sure that Gary will be shown some money because it’s the last house in the area and it will be soon history.

I don’t know if industries in that area is a good or bad thing? It use to be a marsh but no more so therefore the flooding is going to get much worst!

Stay tuned.

Gary better take the money soon, otherwise they'll say keep it and we'll build around you.

a marsh, what, thats not cool.

has any one heard any thing else about the great blue herons nests???

The very next week after that happended or it was on the news, the irvings put out a newsletter with all of the stuff they are doing good for the environment, how ironic.

Not to distract from the environmental concerns posed by this development, but I am also interested in the scattered gravestones in the woods. Has anyone ever made note of those before? I'd love to know the story behind those graves and I wonder if the Irvings even know that the graves are there? They may very well be stepping on hallowed ground and don't even realize it.

In the old days, before the city grew to include these relatively isolated areas on the outskirts, this may have been a rural graveyard. Maybe it was private property. Or perhaps it was the site of an old church? Who was Annie? Who knows the history behind those stones? Charles, it looks like you've stumbled upon a mystery worth solving!

The Irvings aren't doing the development here. Thought they did have to do some work related to graves on Loch Lomond road.

Our city has little respect for people's land or property. Just good to pay taxes and forget any plan for including people.

We never follow with the bylaws; we change them for big corporations. I often hoped some day they whole area would sink and maybe they would rethink things. Adding a 30 inch gas pipeline adds to the danger. But don't forget people with money live else where. So if a few thousand people are in danger they are just a statistic in the big scheme of things. Seniors paid their taxes and we can't guarantee that they have a home when they retire. Money loss at their expense is fine; who cares if their property value goes down. Our young people have that kind of respect to look forward to. It is the happiest city in NB. Some people are so gullible.

Saint John is just going to turn into one ol' ugly wasteland! I feel sick for people that will have to live next that pipeline. The citizens of Saint John have not been represented by their local government and I am sick to death of being called names like "Fringe Group" and "naysayer" by the Irving paper *sigh*

Mental Note: Move out Saint John!

A source at the cemetery told me that there are no known graves on the pipeline route.

People have only their homes to show for all the hard work they have accomplished throughout the years. They should hold their heads up nothing to be ashamed of. For people who don't understand their situation obviously never will.

Read the paper this morning and the words only the Mayor of Saint John can say. (He is in China trying to get them to invest in land here). "He had to explain to investors that once they buy land in NB, they own it for as long as they want it." It maybe worthless like on Westmorland Rd or ask the people in RedHead who now are forced to sell theirs for very little. They also asked the Mayor how long it will take to have 250,000 people; Mayor said I won't be mayor anymore. They didnot know next election his position won't be his; but who knows people here are gullible and truly not too well informed. He has made a complete fool of us long enough.
Desperation makes people do desperate things. Respect for people and their land is not a guarantee that he seems to be promoting. Must get easier to look into the eyes of people and lie.

Easy to say move away and give up what you saved for your whole life and in the end all taxes you paid just doesnot add to the value because of these problems that are not our fault.

Gary doesn't have it as bad as those people down in the trailer park next to the Kent store. If anybody's going to flood, it'll be them. As for the pipeline, I wonder if they will hook him up to natural gas for free ... probably not.

When it doesnot involve you or family it is easy to say; you don't have it bad. You lose your investment and your quality of life.

The people from China wouldn't buy that property either.

In Canada you buy property but you can't say it can't be taken from you like the Mayor claims.

We don't have the power or enough money. We are just a number.
