Fredericton - The buck stops at the Irvings!!!!

This is one part of the City that’s totally ignored all year and I don’t understand the reason?

During the summer months, there’s no garbage bins and during the winter the sidewalks are being ignored.

Guess what? The Golden road stops right at The Irving Gas Station.

This is Fredericton and not Saint John????

Seriously, the poor used this sidewalk to go at the Fredericton Soup Kitchen.

The poor are forced to use the street. This is a very busy area of town.

Now? Why is that now? It’s only one block.

I noticed this ever since I landed in Fredericton.

The question is why? One block only?

Why is that now? Summer or winter? It’s the same?

I have to ask the Mayor this question one day!

The plowing stops at that Irving because one of the NB Gov buildings is accross the road. During storms only sertain streets and sidewalks are plowed and then after the storm is done the rest are cleaned. The storm was Friday and I drove by that part of town (the shelter part)at about 1pm on Saturday and it was clean.

My street and sidewalk was only truely cleaned at 10am on Saturday. I would suggest that you open your eyes and walk around other parts of town other than downtown and you will see that you are too critical of the city.

Actually the city is friendly to the less fortunate compared to other cities. The reality is that there is not enough resources to go arround but no the poor are not treated less fortunate, it is just a lack of resources. I live in a more rich part of town and like I said my neighbourhood was not truely cleaned until 10am.

Good blog Charles, why indeed, however, you should have a picture of the path leading up to the gas station, otherwise its just your word. We can't see where the plowing stops.

So why plow a sidewalk that is across the street from a government building? The assumption is that people need to get to it, and some will need to go past Irvings station. So the question still stands.
The city is one of the very very few in the world where panhandling is completely illegal. That's not a cost issue, that's a harass the poor issue. Spend a little more time downtown and you'll see.

to the person who wrote a comment at 10:22.

what the hell? you're just bullsh*tting your way into that comment, saying we are friendly to the less fortunate. we are just as bad as those other cities. i see and hear the way people react to them downtown.

and of course, you just had to throw that whole "rich part of the city" sentence in there. i'm sure nobody gives a sh*t that your "rich neighbourhood" was not cleaned until 10am.

i don't normally leave comments, but wow, you've gone and done it there with your stupid, worthless, good for nothing comment. stick to your day job.

and seriously, charles, i don't know how you do it. putting up with all those rude comments all the time when all you're trying to do is write about stuff going on around new brunswick. if it wasn't for you, i wouldn't know half of what was going on in fredericton. so i give you major credit for putting up with ass@$%!s.

thanks!

11:18 AM? I almost rejected your comment but it was too good.

I made the correction at the end.

I'll tell ya what I'm going to do?

I don't make it a habit going at the Soup Kitchen at Noon.

It's Sunday and windy out there but I'm going to take a picture of every block while I walk to the needy place.

Lets see if the place is clean up?

Stay tuned!!!!

Yeah, that comment was a bit out of line, the 10:22 guy was at least civil, and made an interesting but debateable point. We could use more commentors of that type on here.

Its a shame to here that anonymous 11:18 lives such a sheltered life. If you get your news here then you know a lot less than you think.

well to those of you who didn't enjoy my comment, i'll just say one thing...

i am a very opinionated, i speak whats on my mind and if i read something i don't like, i will say something about it, instead of sitting here and reading things i don't always agree with.

and thank you charles for accepting my comment because i would've been a little hurt, ha ha, especially when i was giving credit to you.

think you're imagining something that isnt here. look around. fredericton sidewalks are generally horrible, except for queen and king.
