It all began this afternoon while walking downtown. This woman approached me asking where was the Library?

I told her to follow me and a conversation began. < Surprise? >...lol

She told me that she had a letter printed in the Telegraph Journal.

I quickly replied - The Irving’s Paper!!!

She’s from Vancouver and she’s concern of the Chinese invasion going on in this Province.

She let it known that she’s not a racist.

I told her that last year, I blogged a story stating there were no human rights in China! < Of course there’s none in new Brunswick either! >

Anyway....I lower myself to locate the letter in the Irving paper and here’s her story -

What do you think?

Letters | Be aware of Chinese government's record

Dear Mayor and Council of the beautiful city of Saint John,

I am a visitor passing through your city who would like to voice some concerns regarding the surge of Chinese investment in Saint John. I have read several articles in the papers regarding this situation during the last year.

I hope that the Mayor and Council will engage with these Chinese politicians and businessmen with eyes wide open and, despite profits to be made, be aware of what exactly you are dealing with, which is a totalitarian regime responsible for the deaths of 70 million to 100 million of its own since it took power over the Chinese people by force.

A regime which to this day, denies that anyone was killed in Tianamen Square in 1989, lied about SARS (which consequently killed over 40 Canadians) claims that they have always owned Tibet and that the Dalai Lama is evil; a regime that imprisons, tortures and kills its own citizens if they stand up for any belief other than the Chinese Communist Party; a regime that is killing its own environment and that of the world. The evidence of all this is overwhelming and is testified to by Amnesty International and many non-governmental organizations.

People unwilling to let go of the dream of money to be 'made in China' say that things have gotten better, that if you go to Shanghai, its citizens are just like us with cell phones and everything... Please remember that 80 per cent of the population of China live on less than $1 per day and that those rich citizens of Shanghai can pretty much do anything that any westerner can do except for one thing: 'They can't be against the government!'

After years of terror the majority silently obey this rule and the ones that don't... well, I won't repeat myself. Please Mr. Mayor, do not be deceived by the romance of your trade missions to China where perhaps you are treated, as Mayor Sullivan of Vancouver has described: "like an emperor"

My hope is that the Mayor and Council stay alert, do their homework, and consider this situation from all angles, and do what is right for humanity.

SOPHIA BRONWEN

Vancouver, B.C.

Had lunch in Saint John just yesterday with a prominent citizen ... who informed me , pretty much the same thing .... that in the next 10 years, some 40,000 Chinese, (1,000 families a year X 4 family members) could be settled in this city. This is not smoke . there's the new CHinese Business centre in the building that used to be the Lt governor of New Brunswick's house in the 1800's, there's also the buying of real estate, lots and lots of real estate, whole blocks in some instances, for CASH money , by CHinese and or Korean investors. It has been going on under the radar for about 5 - 7 years and is now picking up steam.
The only question is ---is that OK ? Do we care ? WIll there be social problems ? DIsplacements? One certain thing that has already happened ...whenever they buy a multi unit , the rents go up the following month . SOme properties are "listed" but quite a few are where the CHinese gets an agent to go ask people if they want to sell , and it isn;t on the market at all..and they say "How much?" and if they can hit the right price, it is a done deal.
This kind of buying is foreign to us here. in the sense it doesn;t happen and it is "strange".. but hey . Bad ? Notreally I guess.
So... Saint John , 50-60 % CHinese in 10 years. THis will mean of course CHinese in the Legislature.... that's their right . Can't stop that. Look at Parliament and the headdress being worn by more and more people inside the House of COmmons... (that would be turbans for you who mistake the reference...)
So, like, have a good one . Eh ?

Around 10 years ago, I wrote a letter to the editor telling the readers that China is buying a lot of real estate on the West coast.

If you believe we have problems between French and English?

Wait till this bunch takes over?

hey there.............i've had 8 hits from China in that last 4 hours...all different IP's and all linking right to my blog......no referral site indicated. How weird is that.

I never have a hit from China on my blog and if I do, it's a random thing where they are googling a topic or something.

Wow, now that kind of attitude is sure to get chinese investment just flowing! What difference is there if somebody from China buys a building or somebody from Alberta? You think Albertans don't raise rents? That's quite a generalization.

Are businesspeople in Canada accountable for arresting Charles? Are you responsible for the actions of your government all over the world? If they are coming to Canada its because they want to be canadian. A little more ownership by chinese as opposed to Irving might well be a healthy thing.

And 70 to 100 million is simply ludicrous. The cultural revolution was decades ago but half a million people died (not saying that that's good, but by comparison per capita as many acadians died during the expulsion).

Natives, of course, have very similar problems to Tibetans, and its not like the canadian government is hopping to solve the problem, they're making it worse and canadians are hardly saying boo, whereas there are chinese all over the world and in China trying to free tibet.

There's no doubt that the chinese government has moral issues, but take a look at kingston where you can find people being held without charge. But we didn't make those decisions, and the chinese you see in the city don't make those decisions either.

That kind of hysteria over nothing is hardly helpful. Having a woman from Vancouver say all those things is almost funny, the chinese own most of Vancouver. Perhaps they are simply trying to get the east coast from gettting the same investment that BC enjoys. They don't want the competition.

That says they were at the site for 0 seconds. They can't read that much in that space of time.

Here in Waterloo you'll see as many indians (from india) and asians as you see caucasians. It's not a big deal, people are people.

Happy chinese new year!

Sophia is right to think that Frederictonians should use caution when doing business with China. Chinese infiltration in our communities is real (and the Communist influence that comes with it too). Here is why:

Shhhh! Don’t speak about Chinese spies

Reading the book Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party can be a real eye opener http://ninecommentaries.com and “Mao: The Untold Story," by Jung Chang, a former Red Guard. Both books give a brilliant account of the uncensored history of China detailing the incredible cold ambition and murderous brutality of the regime. Forwarned is forarmed.

Hi, I'm Sophia, back in Vancouver We need to distinguish between China and the Chinese Communist Party. Two distinct and seperate entities... China, the oldest and richest country in terms of tradition and culture... Mandarin is a superior language in depth and meaning... The CCP took over China by force and part of its agenda was to get people to think that China IS the CCP and cannot survive without it. Yes Vancouver is pretty much run by Asian interests... as are many other places in the world...but if my letter just got people thinking about this issue - this is great. Please see below the very strategic planning the CCP has put into its export of propaganda.

Recent Quotes from Chinese Officials
on the Use of Propaganda and Culture Around the World

“The Party is in charge of propaganda, and the Party is in charge of ideology... It is an important facet of upholding the Party’s rule—something we must firmly stick to from beginning to end, and from which we must never veer… You should continue to see the strengthening and improving of our propaganda exports as a strategic mission, one wed to the battle of propaganda and ideology.”
—Hu Jintao, President of China, in a 12/5/2003 speech given
at the National Working Conference on Propaganda and Ideology

“[Our agency] must focus on making itself accepted and referenced by media in countries and regions who have important influence in international public opinion and who play important roles in the international community… Do research on and make plans for each country and area one by one… and expand our position on the battlefield of international public opinion… Be in the leading position, hold sway over people’s views, and take the initiative to influence and lead international public opinion.”
— Liu Yunshan, head of the Propaganda Department of the CCP Central Committee,
addressing China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency.

“Intensifying and strengthening our radio, film, and television propaganda overseas is critical in countering westernization, separatism, and infiltration. Safeguard state security, strengthen our defense system on the battleground of controlling public opinion… Radio, film, and television propaganda overseas is an essential and critical part of our Party’s foreign propaganda, and it is a global and strategic undertaking in service of the Party and the nation.”
—Tian Jin, member of the CCP Committee of the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television, and Deputy Director of the Administration, speaking at the National Conference on Overseas Radio, Film, and Television Efforts

“The main targets of foreign propaganda should be the middle and upper classes in target countries, including politicians, people in business circles, and intellectuals since they control either political or economic power and have influence on the policies and pubic opinion in those countries… In particular we should make friends with the prominent figures of foreign media. We should have close relationships with them, and execute well our foreign propaganda through their help.”
—Research Group on Efficient Foreign Propaganda, of Xinhua News Agency

“Our past experiences with overseas communications have proved the importance of interpersonal communication. Perhaps for this very reason, our country has gradually paid attention to fostering our country’s image, and consciously organizes artistic performances, overseas exhibitions, visits abroad by leaders, and allows interviews by foreign reporters. The State Council Information Office spent USD $5 million in 1999 to host various kinds of ‘interpersonal communication’ activities in major U.S. cities, and has achieved good effects in terms of mass communication.”
—Kuo Ke, of China’s International News Strategy, in October of 2003

“Moreover, overseas Chinese and Chinese students studying abroad are another group of people deserving attention from our overseas propaganda… Presently, there are tens of millions of overseas Chinese and Chinese students studying abroad. Many of them have become part of mainstream society there, and sometimes are even elite figures of quite some influence. Foreigners generally learn about China through overseas Chinese. Thus overseas Chinese will provide [for our work] a bridging and proliferation effect.”
—Research Group on Efficient Foreign Propaganda, of Xinhua News Agency

For all the skeptics out there - we, on the West Coast have long been exposed to the Commies and their way of doing business - bribery comes to mind - and planting intelligence to steal military secrets and techology is nothing new. Take a look at this excerpt:

The issue is straightforward. The PRC is an emerging global power whose economic, diplomatic, cultural, political and military interests are expanding worldwide. As part of this it must extend the range of its intelligence collection capabilities as well. Unlike Western intelligence alliance partners, the PRC cannot tap into the Echelon network or receive intelligence streams via liaison relationships with the US, UK or other European powers. It has a growing spy satellite capability, but this is nowhere close to the array of orbiting spy platforms operated by Western powers, and is directed towards those powers in any event. Thus, the PRC has to extend the most basic of intelligence collection devices, the human intelligence agent, in places like the Southern Pacific where it has growing commercial and related interests. To do so it uses the Chinese expatriate community, much like Israel uses the Jewish Diaspora as the first line of its intelligence collection network. Given the rising tide of Chinese emigration and settlement throughout the Pacific Rim and beyond, this makes perfect sense and provides Chinese spies with good cover for their activities. Using business and student visas, the PRC can plant operatives in far-flung corners of the world and activate them at a time of its choosing once they have “settled in” as residents of their new countries. Besides so-called non-official cover agents (people posing as something other than what they really are) and official cover agents (embassy personnel engaged in intelligence activities outside of the scope of their diplomatic license), there are contract assets employed as well (i.e. people who are paid for information or services). The latter are the most likely to be drawn from outside resident Chinese communities.

Intelligence operations are defensive and offensive in nature. Defensive intelligence operations seek knowledge of things that can threaten the home regime. For the PRC, this would involve monitoring dissident communities abroad, including the Falun Gong and student pro-democracy activists as well as renegade businessmen chafing under the strictures of one-party dominated Chinese crony capitalism.

Why do I think that the real threat is China? Here is why...

Another front company for the Communists is eying Vancouver Port to get a container terminal--will Saint John be next? Lots of stuff get smuggled in the country that way - weapons and drugs and God only knows what else. Check the excerpts and read the full report -- this is what could be coming your way folks!

The Vancouver Port Authority has confirmed that Hutchison Port Holdings, owned by Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing, is one of the international terminal operators that has shown interest in the project.

Hutchison operates 46 container terminals in Europe, Central and South America, Asia and the Middle East. It doesn't have a presence in North America, so Terminal 2 would allow it a foothold in the market here.
http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/news/business/story.html?id=4b16c3b1-2cc1-49f1-9f77-a8b871cba0c3

Careful examination of the Chinese tycoon's growing empire and his cozy relationship with the Communist Chinese government reveals the potential for an insidious manipulation of Western ports, markets, utilities and telecommunications that could apply crippling pressure to the United States and her few remaining allies. Indeed, through Li Ka-shing's empire -- a front for Communist Chinese expansion -- the Mainland does not need to invade Western democracies or launch missile attacks against them to flex its muscle. It can simply threaten to shut down public utilities and key industries which it now controls -- throwing Western markets into complete turmoil, if not disaster. (read the full report)
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=18750

"China Ocean Shipping Co. (COSCO), partly owned by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China, plans to operate out of Boston beginning next January, while the huge Hutchison Whampoa company expands its presence in Latin America, now one of Beijing's prime targets.

COSCO, the same company caught red handed trying to smuggle thousands of assault weapons for distribution to U.S. street gangs, already has a strong presence in California and according to the Washington Times is now looking to the U.S. East Coast for new operations, thus straddling the nation."

Read this whole article for a rundown of what can only be interpreted as a military campaign. Yes it could just be some old greedy rich tycoon at work but our governments would be foolish to act on that basis.
