I bumped into the nice individual this evening in the uptown area.

I first met the guy last year and in a joking manner I told him - My God? Are all the MLA’S who comes from that the part of Miramichi all overweight???...lol...

Bill never said much until this evening.

I haven’t seen the guy for a long time so I once again mentioned the weight issue.

This time around he replied - Charles? What’s more dangerous? Being overweight or a smoker?

Good point!!!

I know for a certain fact there’s lots of pressure being an MLA and from my point of view?

It’s just a concern.

But he does have a point....lol

So what’s more dangerous?

Being overweight or a smoker???

I told Bill what I was going to do.

I expected a debate about the issue of smoking and overweight?

Once again, I never know what to expect from the readers in this blog?

I will admit that it would have been very rude asking the question without his premission?

Can you go to the question of the blog now???

Hello; can i ask you a question for my blog?

Yes

why are you fat?

Why not mention it? YOu think nobody mentions how bad smoking is? Get real. They'll say it to your face even if they are 300 pounds. Whats more, smokers have to pay heavy taxes which goes into the health care system...eaters? Nada.

Many places have a 'fast food tax' and during a time when people should be eating healthier and the government has no money, that's not such a bad thing to be looking at. If kids can afford ipods and skateboards they can afford to pay a few cents more on the rubbish they scarf down at Mcdonalds.

It's interesting that many overweight people will say 'its a gland problem' or 'its my thyroid' or something, yet smokers-its your own damn fault because you can quit. Well, people can quit eating so much too.

Being a blogger means you don't pull any punches, but that guy didn't actually look that overweight. And fortunately Charles is in no position to start saying "hey how come all you MLA's from _______ are all ugly?"

Let's be clear here. "Overweight" is having a BMI between 25 and 30. If you're over 30, you're "Obese" and over 40, you're "Morbidly Obese".

Calculate your BMI here

Obesity is a dire problem in the Maritimes and the City of Miramichi in particular. According to the Canadian Community Health Survey released not that long ago, Miramichi had the second highest level of obesity in Canada. (First place went to a First Nations Reserve somewhere out in the Prairies.)

If you compare smoking with being "not that overweight" then smoking is likely far worse. But if you're talking about obesity, it's putting stress on your entire system and IMO does far more damage. We've all heard stories of 100-year-old smokers, but I can't think of too many people over 300 lbs who make it past 60.

My response - both smoking and overeating are unhealthy habits to the individual. The difference is smoking impacts my clean, healthy air. Someone eating at McDonalds or BK has no impact on my health. I do think overeaters need to take a lesson in self control - there are not that many gland problems in the world, it's a choice and a lifestyle. And, don't come down hard on me for saying that, walking is free. We make choices, smoking, eating, drinking, gambling etc. CHOICES.

That's propaganda. People don't make choices, they've just been indoctrinated to think they are. Genetics and environment, that's what it all comes down to. The only people who think its a choice are those that, surprise surprise, aren't obese or smokers!
Before people throw stones, they better not be driving, be growing their own food, never hurt any living thing. Then feel free to throw some stones.
