With no talk shows in Saint John. Also no way to get an Anti Irving letter printed in the papers.
Saint Johners are desperate for action. They feel helpless!!!
So? Some anonymous group of people organize a little meeting.
More than 200 people showed up and I guess it was a live one.
Many citizens are upset there’s no way to spread the word.
Coffee Shops and bars won’t do!!!
Some took to the floor to give the crowd some encouragement.
Mind you? Someone took the mike and called himself a blogger!!!
The Citizens are safe!!!! Freedom of speech is still alive in Saint John!!!
Who’s this blogger anyway?????

Yes I went because I wanted to know what is was about. I believe it comes at a time that people need a voice and we need to asked for our rights back. Not sure what everyone agenda is but most want the city to be accountable to the taxpayers and we will start there.
You will never see anything fully covered by the news; they were all there cameras all. So many mics but honestly not to be disclosed on radio, TV and definitely very little in the paper. Only the spin they want.
We do need to start with an independent paper and yes we miss CFBC Talk Show.
These thoughts were not metioned but I had them.
I am sure many small business companies are feeling the taxes and they see our tax dollars going for things that improve the lives of a select few. An audit of the city is one starting point. Another disclosed was the building permits that some wealthy family doesnot seem to have to pay. $0 or hardly nothing it has to stop.
I personally heard so many personal stories but by pm I had to go but I hope at some time to get an email address or a phone # so I can be able to express some of my thoughts too. I don't like to speak publicly because I am too nervous and lose my train of thought .
This group want as many people as possible to come forward and express their thoughts and then decide the direction that will help us get to where we need to go.
Some wanted to know names right away of who is behind the group. Sorry but Irving never disclosed all his facts yet with the LNG deal or any of the other facts about his business deals.
I fear that our city of Saint John is going to let Irving have our Musquash water shed and we the tax payers will lose our resource. Ask Mr Groody for answers he seem to be knee deep along with the city manager and the mayor must know something. They won't let us know. No private person should own our water resource. This public water and should stay public. The Irvings are trying to buy up property to get all water rights. Public water should be protected and yes even if it costs too much; it is not replaceable.
Could not someone in the know do the right thing for Saint John. Save our rights and start with water, air and land.

The Irvings pay the most property tax in Saint John.
I was fascinated the the rich people who ran all those ads (at thousands of dollars each!) focused on secrecy, yet they would not reveal themselves. Well, except for defeated Council candidate Prosser, who kept saying "we" when referring to the secret club.
What hypocrisy!
So what if they're hypocrites and don't reveal themselves. People have to make a living. They make good points which should be enough. Irving pays the most property tax because they own more than anyone else, but get a deal on what they own. Where are your sources on how much property tax Irvings pay?
PS: You are a hypocrite for talking about their secrecy while concealing your identity. So what?
It's Doug James, Charles. He writes a blog called Port City Politics. I believe he's considering running for Council or Mayor of Saint John next year.
Excuse me but you must pay your fair share of taxes and if you own more you have to pay more. So stop making excuses for them. When you build or renovate you need a building permit and with that comes a cost and you should pay. Water is a public resource we need to protect we don't want to let any private company or person to own public water.
If you reveal yourself and you own a company in Saint John don't expect to be in business too long. You can't speak out openly. At that meeting Monday we had enough Irving employees taking pictures all night they know who was there and if they don't know you they can find out.
Happy there was agood turn out but maybe if it was not raining so hard more may have come.
Voicing and sharing facts and stories is a great start!
Thanks Charles for putting it on the blog. I was going to ask but I hoped someone else would ask. I have asked many of times to cover things and you have.
We need new people running. Lets put it this way Irving has been giving ink to people he wants. Also if he wants to keep you out of the paper he can. Also give you ink when things go wrong and no one else can say oe do anything. We don't have true news.
Living in NB is like living on an island and we can't get any outside communication; just one family has the contol.
I don't have to reveal myself nor do you. Besides I have no power or a business. I don't have anything to loose except I don't need you needling me or anyone else. We have a voice and I will use it as long as I can breathe or type.
I will be very interested in a new mayor and councillors but knowing our city; people are so passive and just don't get out there and vote. Remember the past and hope for better and that is not what we have now!
Saint John needs an audit but we need to have someone who will reveal the truth not bury it under another pile.
No one minds paying a fair share of taxes but don't cry hard times when you give tax dollars away by giving tax concessions, grants and not collect on building permits and other bills the billionaires seem to be able to avoid paying.
We can't take any more increases on gas, power, and almost everything we buy. Our wages don't increase to keep up. We don't get bonuses and tax write offs.
If a property gets fourth rate service it should pay fourth rate taxes. The LNG facility is not getting prime city service and should not pay the full rate.
