Carlson parts ways with Fredericton shelters

The woman who's been the voice for homeless people in Fredericton for the past 12 years is no longer running the city's two shelters.

Pat Carlson, who was executive director of Fredericton Emergency Shelter and the Grace House women's shelter, says the decision was based on a philosophical difference with the shelters' board of directors.

She has plans to open a used-goods store that would employ homeless people and teach them work ethics that would allow them to keep a job.

When federal funding for the store fell through, the board decided not to continue, but Carlson says she's committed to the idea of being proactive, rather than reactive.

"I have a need, after 12 years, to go into something positive," she said. "Just keeping a bed is wonderful because it is needed, but it's not enough. I really want to look at trying to change the philosophy, the ideology that people can't work."

Carlson says her parting with the board was on good terms, and both sides wish each other well.

She says she's now talking to other community groups who may be interested in the used-goods store.

Carlson says at the moment, she's on holiday, and will be looking for a new job next month.

I see Mr. Leblanc's theft of other people's intellectual property continues unabated.

Charles, ask your lawyer about the legalities of what you are doing. He'll explain to you it's illegal and actionable.

Are you aware that Google, the owner of Blogger/Blogspot, has a policy specifically prohibiting copyright violation and that it terminate your blog if it receive complaints about it?

So, this will be a perfect opportunity for you. Pat would hire you, I'm sure. Will you try to better yourself and apply for a job at her store? In your repost of a previous blog the other day, you stated that you wanted to work.

Prove it to us.

I do have a job.....but I'm not paid one single cent for it!!!!

Error, you don't have a job, but you're being paid.

See? You don't want to work.

I have a personal website and take lots of photos too, but guess what? Having a personal website is not a job, it's a hobby. Lots of people have hobbies.

Don't you have any pride? How can you so quickly cash those welfare cheques when you know you are fully able to work? Working (even just a part-time job) would still allow you to continue with your hobby.

People, People ,People, did you in your haste to complain and belittle Charles lose site of the information in this blog?
Pat Carlson worked her buns off for the past 12 years to keep that shelter open. People may not always have agreed with her ways, but no one could deny her drive and ambition. I for one will be sad to see her gone. That woman has a mind like a steel trap, she retains stats and info from years gone by and can recall them in an instance. Best of Luck Patrica in whatever road life takes you.

Typical, you avoid answering the question. My websites are irrelevant - I work for a living.

Answer the original question - or are you to much of a coward to tell us why you won't work even though you said you want a job?

Don't be a broken record and whine about how you're not allowed to work because of ADHD - that's just 100% incorrect. Again, updating your personal website is not a job, it's a hobby - you do not have a job, you collect welfare, so thinking that you have a job is nothing more than a delusion. There may be a few companies in the province that will obviously never hire you but there are MANY that will. Why are you not applying for a job at those places?

I had a job for six months but those Quebecois at the Legislature and the New Brunswick Human Rights Commission removed it from me?

Phone them and complain!!!

:P

But it's not information from Charles's blog; it's information compiled and presented by the CBC, information Charles has reproduced illegally.

Again, you are not answering the question. You lost a job two years ago - so what. You can't latch onto that for the next 30 years - move on. There are thousands of other jobs in this province.

Why won't you apply at a call centre?
Why won't you apply at Walmart or Zellers?
Why won't you apply at a restaurant?
