A Canterbury, N.B., woman was found guilty Thursday of criminal negligence causing the death of her two-year-old daughter.

Anna-Marie Mooers, 27, was charged along with her then boyfriend, Curtis Hathaway, after failing to recognize Juli-Anna was in need of medical attention in April 2004.

The toddler died of a perforated bowel. An autopsy found that a plastic pencil-shaped toy, nine centimetres long and one centimetre in diameter, had been inside the child for two or three days and had caused the perforation.

Let me have just 5 minutes alone with the 2 of them!
Unfortunatley she won't get very long. that's the way our justice system works.
Look at that guy they just found guilty of manslaughter last week here in Saint John. 8 years for killing somebody?!?!?!? Give me a break!
This has to stop!

As a nurse and a mother, I find it ludicrous that she should have to serve any prison time. Just knowing that her child is dead and will never be seen by her again, never be able to hold her again, is prison and punishment enough. I raised three children, who are grown now, and am in the process of raising an 8 year old. We all well know, that it is impossible to keep your eyes on them 24/7. I don't know all the details of this womans case, but 27 months in prison seems a little much!
